At the risk of asking a dumb question; If this is designed for the Euro market will apps from the US market still be compatible?

Apple is very protective of iTunes and will only permit it for use on their products, I suggest trying out an Android!

Anyone know if this particular device supports VGA out? Apparently some Galaxy's do. I could care less about watching Hulu from my phone on a projection screen, or hooking the thing up to my teevee, but VGA out would turn this into a tool I could use for teaching.

I bought two of these. I am curious as to why Woot is selling these before any of the major retailers. Both Amazon.com and Bestbuy had ads for this device about two months ago before they were abruptly pulled down.

In any case, I expect this Woot to sell out quickly.

Last week we explained that we’re prioritizing our product efforts. As part of that process, we’ve decided to wind down Google Labs.

But yeah, we don't get to use ogg files. That pretty much is the show stopper of the decade.

There's a reason these pieces of plastic are selling for pennies on the dollar.

I'm thinking that I should be able use this device as a controller for a Sonos music system (along with all the other applications). The Sonos Controller for Android software available for download to Android smartphones should work on this device. Am I missing anything?

I just plug my Asus Transformer into my Sammy TV with the HDMI port for super sized surfing.
Nice looking screen and price can't be beat. Nothing wrong with Android 2.2
if I didn't love my Transformer and already have a Droid 2 (that I got for 89.00 new) I'd consider it...

You might want to wait for an official US version.

This appears to be a Grey Market product, meaning that it's not meant for the US market. In other words, you won't be seeing this version on Amazon or BestBuy, etc. That's why the warranty is offered by Woot and not Samsung. My guess is that it's a Canadian product since the 2-prong power supply is identical to ours. Non-North American (i.e. European and Asian) plugs are different.

I own several Canadian products and they work just fine but getting them serviced is difficult. As is getting accessories and replacement parts. I had no choice because Pioneer discontinued selling HDD-based DVD recorders in the US long ago. Curiously, even Logitech's extensive remote control database is missing my two Pioneer DVD recorders. For those who are considering Grey Market video items, just make sure that it can handle (or convert to) NTSC. Europe uses PAL/SECAM and only parts of Asia use NTSC. Luckily, those Asian countries are all electronics giants: Japan, S. Korea and Taiwan.

I didn't notice that fact about the warranty. I have been waiting on one of these for some time, and was even considering buying an imported model from Hong Kong, being sold on Ebay currently for $322. I am not a smartphone owner, was previously an IPOD owner, but I wanted an Android device with a MicroSD slot, and the 5" size is a plus for me.

Or you could stop being so stingy and shell out a little money for an offline gps program. For instance Copilot (My value choice), Navigon (i hear it's popular in europe), tom tom (my gps nemesis), or garmin (costly but uses navteq maps and those guys are just great).

You need to read up on it. It's not a phone but more of a PMP (Portable Media Player). In a way, it can be looked at as a portable tablet without 3G. However, it does have some phone functionality through skype and gmail phone over wifi connection.

A big thanks to w00t on the Galaxy tab. I needed something to do on breaks at work. This should surpass my needs for a budget e-reader/media player.

A smaller unthanks for tricking me into researching the Fleet Foxes... Like an Art Garfunkel solo album gone wrong.

I am just afraid that it might be sold out by then. My question is can I order one now and if the wifey tell me I can't, then how do I cancel my order??? This is my first time here sent over by Slickdeals. =P

You can cancel easily by emailing service@woot.com. As long as the item hasn't shipped yet, you're fine. One issue is that it's the weekend, so don't expect a reply until Monday or Tuesday. On the plus side, they also don't ship on weekends so you're safe.

Don't worry about a sellout in 3 hrs. Keep in mind that most Wooters don't even know about this yet since they check Woot in daylight hours. And it's still 3:43am on the West coast. It's also the weekend so people sleep late. If it sells out, I don't expect that to happen until 2pm ET at earliest. That, of course, depends on the size of their stock.

ps - it's cute that you want your wife's permission to buy a $169 item (that doesn't take up much space). It's even cuter that you call her "wifey."

Interesting that this has a 1 year Woot warranty. Anyone ever use a warranty from Woot,do they just replace the item or maybe give you a credit or even have another company try to repair it? I'm curious as to who I would be dealing with 4-5 months down the line if there were a problem.

Missed out on the touchpad so this'll have to. Maybe I'm just sourgraping but last I heard the touchpad doesn't have Netflix. Anyway, can't beat this price for a name-brand sub-tablet.

You can surf and use online maps while traveling without paying for a special >$20/mo service by rooting your android phone and tablet and running a wifi tethering app. Good luck doing either of these things with Apple products - they don't see fit to allow such flexibility. I am also able to use my android tablet (Acer Iconia) at work in this manner as non company supplied devices aren't allowed to use secure internal wifi access points.

I'm a heavy iOS user having owned every iPhone and iPad released, but I've always been curious about Android and its so-called "open" philosophy. I went ahead and pulled the trigger to see what all the fuss is about. At the very least, I can install some emulators on this without the hassles of jailbreaking my iPhone.

Well, hello woot and assorted wooters. Long time follower, first time buyer here. I've been following news about Samsung's Galaxy Wifi line since the end of Winter, and when the 5.0 showed up here for a frankly ridiculous price, I had to pull the trigger. I'd been planning to buy a Lenovo Ideapad A1 when they hit next month, but I think this is going fulfill my needs pretty well...

...and if not, I think I can resell it for a nice profit.

Cheers woot, and thanks for a swank deal! :D

Same boat as you. Trying to convince myself I "need" this.

I really do take advantage of the "just works" style software/hardware of apple products but this really is a better PMP than an ipod touch aside from the lower resolution screen.
