WANT!

But Will. Not. Buy.

Already have the Asus 10" Android Transformer Tablet and a Samsung Android Moment phone, which I bought with a 2yr contract- 3months later, Samsung/Sprint said there would be no more updates for the life of the phone!?!!!

I'm peeved at Samsung over that one.

If I needed an mp3/game player that I could use without worrying about running down my phone's battery maybe I'd get one. Sounds like a good price for a quality device.

Less than half the price of an iPad for less than half the performance and far less than half the available apps. Does it run Netflix yet? Do you have to root, toot, scoot and reboot to upgrade? Seriously, it's OK for the enthusiast hobbyist, but for the person who just want to "use it," I'd think twice about Android anything until they get their scheist together.

acpress.com Not cute, but useful.

All Android 2.2 devices and above are netflix compatible.

On everything else..You are either ignorant or blinded by your bias. Apple makes good products, there's no denying that. But you can buy a significantly cheaper android phone/tablet and do all the same things you can on an apple product. Don't be a hater :0

Can anyone comment on the rear camera? it is even good say: shooting 720p video? How it compares with Ipod touch? How about its CPU compares to Ipod touch. I can't found simple/straight talk specs on apple.com on its ipod touch.

I bit. I already have an Acer Iconia 10" tablet (not practical for playing mp3s in the car), a work Blackberry Bold (horrible interface for music) and a 32GB iPod Touch. I only bought the iPod because Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, has quit competing with Apple's iPod and won't make a successor to the ZuneHD. The ZuneHD I had was great, but its small screen and lack of bluetooth (for the wireless car integration) was a let down, so I sold it and got the Touch.

Now, I'll admit, I'm not an Apple fan, but at the time I didn't see a good alternative. The iPod/iTunes tether is maddening and the lack of an SD slot for adding memory meant that I had to get the expensive 32GB to get plenty of space on it.

If this Galaxy S media player can do everything that I currently use the iPod for, then the iPod is going on craigslist. If it's not "all that" I can still sell it and get most, if not all, of my money back.

Check out this video. He briefly talks about the camera quality. From what I can gather online, the ipod touch has a roughly 1MP camera on the back and VGA on the front.

If anyone is interested in comparing tablet features, I'll be adding this new Galaxy S tablet to the tablet megalist this morning. I have a Google docs spreadsheet that gives the specs for all the popular tablets out there. Check it out.

So, what we have here is a smart phone that can't make calls. In fact my smart phone does more than this device and I got it for free from ATT. 5" screen ? Save your money for a 10" screen like Ipad or Xoom.

So you pay $0 in monthly service charges? That's the only way your phone would be 'free' ;)

dayam yo!

it's only 10am here. was debating on getting one and i was wading through the posts and then i was like, sure, why not? then SOLD OUT! dammit.

wonder if i should take a 10 minute drive to their carrolton warehouse and see if they have one that fell off of a trailer or something.

i guess if you catch a buttfly and it doesn't turn into a crysalis then it wasn't meant to be...or something like that.

What do you mean "download MP3s and turn them into podcasts"? Does not compute. Podcasts *are* MP3s, for the most part.

And I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to load the Kindle app on here.

biopulse wrote:Peng, don't take this the wrong way, because I very much appreciate your support of the CM7 dev team, but I'd like to try and clarify your FaceTime comment. As far as I'm aware, there's no such "protection" of the FaceTime video chat protocol, in fact I remember Apple being heralded for making it so open. SO.. While I agree that the user base for FaceTime is currently much MUCH smaller than the number of Skype/Qik/GoogleTalk devices, and while I've only personally used FaceTime, Skype, and GoogleTalk, I have to respectfully disagree with your "will only permit it for use on [Apple] products".

You are correct, FaceTime is an "open" protocol that uses H.264/AAC so there is licensing issues involved, I should have said the Apple appears to have no interest in releasing FaceTime software for any device other than their own and as a result there is very little chance of the software being ported. As a developer, I would be constantly concerned that, it my app was popular and I started to make some money with it, Apple would release their own version for that platform and destroy mine with regards to sales. Of course, this is mostly my personal opinion.

That carrolton warehouse(I assume New Carrolton in MD?) is the bane of my existence. Do you know how many times I've been at work and seen my package tracker with it being RIGHT THERE down the street? And then it ends up taking two days to get to my house in VA?

I download a talk radio show from the internet in mp3 form then turn it into a podcast with mp3tag program. This enables me to pause and resume unlike a straight mp3 format which would make me search for my last point of a 4+hour program. Sorry if I sound "dumb" but I don't even know about apps..this Galaxy will be my first experience with them. I am a basic zune girl

Ah, I got you. Sorry, I wasn't too sure what you were trying to say(honestly, the pause+resume thing didn't even occur to me).

Yeah, there are apps out there that should allow for it. I'd just follow the one that was already listed.

I snagged two of these for gifts about a half hour before they sold out. I gotta admit, it's so tempting to test drive one myself once they arrive! (Hard to justify buying it for myself when I already have both a Samsung Infuse & Asus Transformer handy).

To those looking for screen protection: Skinomi makes screen protectors for these available through their own web site or Amazon:

Plus I needed a bigger screen (than iPod) because of my aging eyesight.

Well that worked out well. Sold out while I was reading the comments. Thanks all of you for saving me money ;) Actually looked like a neat device, but I have an iPhone4, with a dead SIM that I'm using as a 'Touch' for media stuff. 'Bought everything this can do. Been looking for an Android something, but can't decide if I want a phone-ish thing or a tablet. The various flavors are different and upgrades certainly aren't a given. This of course would never get Honeycomb with a single core processor.

Oh-BTW, I understand it's not a phone ;)
