I've seen this question a lot in this thread but can't find an answer... at least one that I can understand :-)

Can I connect this to my laptop to show a Power Point presentation consisting of mostly photos?

Thanks!

I currently bring a 12" laptop to my workplace gym in order for a couple of us to do P90X. We are constantly adjusting the angle of the laptop for standing vs. on the floor exercises. With this, I would think that no adjustment would be needed.
My big question is that the gym is well lit, and I cannot shut the lights off. Would this still be usable in this instance? I am not looking to increase the picture size. It would be great if I could, but not a requirement. I am more concerned with viewing in a lit room.
Thanks in advance.

For a 12" picture, you'd put the projector about 12" from the wall or screen. At that distance, the image should look pretty bright. Watch the YouTUbe video to see a demonstration at various distances. He shows a 12" image in a lit room at around 8:04.

If the ambient light is too bright, you can always put a hood over the screen or wall to block overhead light (like a canopy over your porch). A large piece of cardboard is often good enough.

It can project anything that you would show on the laptop's LCD screen. All you need is the proper cable. Most laptops have VGA output (to connecto to a standard monitor) so you need an adapter that would take VGA signals and put it into this projector. THis is the official cable from the manufacturer. If your laptop can output composite signals from teh VGA output, then all you'llneed is this $2 cable.

No matter how you plan to connect your laptop, the answer is yes, you can project slides on this thing. Anything that can appear on the laptop's LCD screen can be diverted to this projector.

Watch this YouTUbe video to see a demonstration of slides, at around 8:27.

Those only work if your laptop supports s-Video or Composite out through it's VGA port. If it doesn't, you'll need to convert the VGA signal, and that means an extra $20-$50.

Although the regular Amazon listing is now $49.99 + $6 s/h, you can find a New one for only $17.98 + $2.99 s/h in the New section. That's only %20.97 total.

Does it support display mirroring on the iPad 2? ie. Shows screen all the time, not just select Apps like the iPad 1?

Thanks!
If it does not support mirroring, a Pico VGA Cable Adapter combined with an Apple VGA Adapter should allow it to mirror the iPad 2. Hopefully it will mirror right out of the box, so I will hold off buying an adapter just yet. If someone already has this projector and an iPad 2 and confirm mirroring capability with a yeah or neah, it would be appreciated so I know in advance to order the appropriate adapters.

My best friend once mounted his girlfriend with the help of a tripod. And lots of duct tape. They swear that it was consensual.

I just bought one. If for no other reason than to freak my cat out. He loves lasers but doesn't react to my TV at all. It'll be fascinating to see if, and how, he reacts to this image made of laser light.

For those of you who don't own a mac product *me* you can still feed it high def through clever use of adapters. (ipod female to female cable and a ipod component cable).

So, should I expect VGA adapters to go back down to less than 50, or did we all just buy the last ones in the world?

jjdche wrote:I went ahead and got one. I've been wanting to check out one of these pico projectors for a while. I don't know how much cheaper than $100 I'd be able to have a chance at one without going used.

I think the key here is to keep expectations low. If you expect this to be a 100" home theater projector, you'll probably be disappointed. If you want a 20-30" video display that you can carry in your pocket and watch in fairly light controlled situations, it's probably fine.

You should have waited a month. Half of the people buying them here will be selling them used on eBay after the new wears off.

Well, I know the Ipod touch does not support mirroring unless you jailbreak it. Probably the same goes for the Ipad. You can only watch videos and look at pictures.

So to kind of answer my own question from earlier...can anyone confirm that this item will allow dish/cable signal to project properly on the lil bugger?

karamark wrote:why is the white line running through the picture?

It has to do with image refresh being out of sync with the video camera. This was a common effect seen on CRT displays with both flash photography and video cameras. Because the laser draws in the same way as the electron gun does in a CRT monitor by scanning from top to bottom, you get a line in the image. High end video cameras have sync(shutter speed) adjustments to counter this effect. The human eye cannot see the effect.

The cable they supply is good for 1st and 2nd only. You can use the later models, but you need a compatible cable adapter from Apple that converts the signal to VGA for the PC adapter they sell separately for the best image quality or composite(RCA).

khariton wrote:It works fine on iPhone 4 for Netflix as well as anything that accepts the protocol used with the standard apple video adapters. Same for iPad 1. I have one and it is great with these devices.

iPad 2 supports video mirroring so I suspect it may work with any app that doesn't block the feature but if it requires HDMI to do the mirroring then this likely wont work.

I can say it should work to output from an iPhone4 I have a Verizon Iphone 4 and I have a in dash DVD navigation system in my car. I can hook up my iPhone to it and watch netflix on the navigation unit streaming from my iPhone. I cant promise this will work, but I would think that since I can output to my In Dash navi, that you should be able to output to this device.

My iPhone 3G worked fine with Netflix (before I upgraded to 4G). My kids' iPod Touch 3G's also work fine with Netflix.

(Not that we're too happy with Netflix right now....)

Can't wait to try it on my iPhone4 and iPad1.

is there a definitive statement that all ipod touch generations will show video from pics and video player?

What about netflix?

An all of the ipod/iphone connections are analog composite.. in fact the only input is analog composite... i believe even the vga in converted to composite?

Here's how Am@zon treats its customers. I put the VGA adapter in my cart and figure I'll finish the purchase in the morning. Overnight it MAGIACALLY DOUBLES in PRICE. Way to go, now I WON'T BUY IT.

Please note that the price of MicroVision SHOWWX/SHOWWX+ VGA Dock Adapter has increased from $21.86 to $39.99 since you placed it in your Shopping Cart. Items in your cart will always reflect the most recent price displayed on their product detail pages.

I live in NYC, and as any NY apartment dweller can tell you, there are no bare walls to project an image. Then I tried to justify it for work but my hospital already provides great A/V equipment. And the low contrast dim image may not be usable for some of our micrographs, where color variations are sometimes very slight. BUt ceiling projections before bed ... nice.

I bought this with the express purpose of projecting onto the ceiling. Perhaps just to watch Winamp visualizations(Milkdrop 2) while listening to Pink Floyd —*

I just received my SHOWWX (fast shipping, Woot!) and am pleased to announce that it absolutely works with my iPod Touch (4th generation) using only the included cables - no other adapter needed.

And after a quick look, I'll say that the picture is very impressive and surprisingly bright. Seems like a good value!
