LOL, I'm trying to find some justification to buy these and I just can't. Also I think my cats might eat them. But they are so neat.

Can these be combined with BuckyBalls? Or would that be an abomination before Man and God?

What's the point of using something magnetic and so small? The magnetism actually makes them harder to manipulate, and the size makes them harder to see. You're better off using marbles or poker chips.

I'm thinking these would make exceptional fridge magnets. In for one.

No they wouldn't. They're too small to have enough surface area to hold anything to the fridge.

Actually, the real problem is if you swallow two. One will probably just pass on through. Two could get attracted/stuck to each other at different points along the digestive tract, causing the bowels to become twisted or perforated.

You're wrong. The original buckyballs and these buckycubes are exceptionally strong. I use some of my original buckyballs to hold things to my fridge with no problems. And they definitely lack "surface area" since they're spheres and contact the fridge at only one point.

They're too small to hold up much more than a sheet of paper, I grant you.

Well, if these cubes are really so small, maybe I'll draw dots on them and turn them into dice.

Now there's a bag of craps!

I would imagine these are much easier to work with since its a cube. It would be easier to rotate a single cube in order to get the poles correctly aligned when making intricate shapes. However, I think beyond the cube there is a limited range of shapes, nothing like the Buckyballs.

I have 3 home fridges and one at work, and one Buckyball cannot hold even one sheet of paper on any of them. I have the gold and silver ones (see previous photo). Maybe your fridge has an exception amount of iron. Or you use more than one Buckyball.

My husband brought me these today, I think I will have some fun with them and the next time Woot has the balls (BuckyBalls I mean ) I shall have to get some of those too so I can make all sorts of things that shouldn't be made.

Recall Notice: Maxfield & Oberton voluntarily recalled Buckyballs High Powered Magnets earlier last year because their packaging was labeled “Ages 13+”

See-- If a 13 year old was stupid enough to eat a bunch and died as a result, many would call that natural selection.. Or are today's 13+ kids dumber than say 10 years ago?

If you ate two (or more) at the same time, they'd probably stick to each-other in your stomach, and then pass through the rest of your system stuck-together..

Woot has incredibly Lousy Shipping. Its worse than free shipping on most websites. For 4.99, I got my last woot a whopping 2 weeks later.

I had high hopes, but alas I was proved worng once again

Well, I assumed that since I didn't discover the Woot until after my order was allegedly to be shipped, it would be too late. But it apparently hasn't really shipped yet, so I may be in luck.

I'm a big fan of rubiks cubes, even have a little collection. These will fit nicely alongside them, and its hard to overstate how much fun buckeyballs are. I'm assuming these are equally as entertaining, but a bit easier to manipulate.

I'm kind of surprised these lasted so long. I decided to check Woot! last night at 1am mtn time, just before going to bed, and decided I'd better grab $75 worth for Christmas presents. Figured they'd be gone by morning.

Guess cubes aren't as popular as balls. Or WOOT! has a BUNCH of these.

Either way, I know some kids who are gonna be happy some early morning 3 months from now! (And surprised, too, unless they read the Woot! blog and recognize my name! D'oh!)

Just don't get these confused with your Woot! fruit tablets and you should be fine.

Boy, getting Woots can be so confusing. I mean, some are designed for human consumption and some are not. How can we ever know which are which?

Oh yah. Brains. Right.

In any case, eating ONE will probaly not hurt you at all. Eating 125 of them might.

I have many 3/16" (approx. 5 mm) square neodym magnets. I use them to hold things to my fridge, light switches, bolt on the door lock, etc. The downside is they are just small enough that if they get strongly "stuck", they are hard to move. So a 4mm magnet might have more of the same problem, but should work fine. If you want to hold more, add more magnets to that spot. I have calendars hanging up with 4- 5mm magnets.

In for one set.

Presumably they'll follow with other space-filling polyhedra to continue to sell into their established geek customer base.

So we can look forward to the buckyrhombic dodecahedron, the buckytruncated octahedron, and the Bucky-Schmitt-Conway biprism. Of course, the marketing guys will have to work a little harder on those names.

sdc100 wrote:While I wouldn't accuse Woot of false advertising, people who are considering these as gifts should know that they're very small. All my recipients thought that the Buckyballs cost around $5. Even the expensive-looking gold ones.

Here's a photo of the 216 Buckyballs, which make a 1" cube. Since you only get 125 Buckycubes, the assembled cube is even smaller. Note that the Buckyball cube is smaller than a standard fork head or AA battery. Most of the packaging is empty space.

Its not the size of the ball that matters its what it can do.

Nah... buying 4 is 8 sets, so 1000 buckycubes total. That would be enough to form my bucky-mega-cube.

As it is, I think I'm stuck with a 9x9x9 bucky-super-cube, and 21 random extra buckycubes left over.

I'm curious why they're not offering a 6x6x6 cube like they do with the Balls?

On the plus side, the 5x5x5 cubes seem a hair cheaper-- but I'd have liked bigger sets better!
