I just read something about hyper-threading. I don't really get it, but it sounds good. feel free to ignore me.

We ordered this laptop on Monday and paid for it. I do not see where it has even shipped yet. Could you please check to see what the problem is. Thanks Linda

I wouldn't call us that lucky. I'm in California, and my scheduled delivery is still 10/11. Don't understand why it takes 4 days to go from Anaheim to the Bay Area. I've never been so excited about receiving a package!

Yep, delivery to the East Bay is on the 11th as well. It's been sitting on a truck from Industry since yesterday at midnight :/

got mine yesterday before the tracking code even posted on this site.

this is a hotrod of a machine. I redid windows 7 and the drivers seem to take ,

note always make a backup of drive in backup format , but in my case i replaced the hardrive to a 500mb Momentus xt.

for all of the no nothings' any serious computer users rarely turns down a good hardware deal for a hard drive. because you can swap out the hard drive!

I have used a quad core before and in the task manager performance area it showed 4 graphs for CPU usage. On this comp it shows 8. At first it looked like only 4 were being used but I just saw five of the graphs showing usage. Is this some weird thing where the PC has 4 but it acts like 8? Or did I get super lucky and somehow end up with an 8 core computer?

It seems like it has eight cores because it has 8 processor threads (2 threads per core), so it is like it has 4 additional logical cores in a sense.

because of hyper-threading and an advanced pipelining techniques, it is virtually equivalent to having 8 separate cores. (although slightly worse because each thread has to "wait in line" to access the shared cache for each core)

GO to dell.com, if you build an xps15, with the exact same specs as this, it is $999

Excited to get mine in what looks like another 2 days....

My question for you "uber geeks" (and I say that with a smile and as a compliment!) what would you all recommend for taking out the bloatware on this machine? Doing it manually in remove programs or PC Decrapifier?

I don't feel like uninstalling the OS completely because of drivers and such, unless you all know of a forum with a good walk through for that.

TIA

Emailed service in hopes of getting a tracking number to watch for my mailman. Excited for his arrival! Worried because this is the most money spent online in a single purchase and still don't have tracking info... People on the forum are saying they expect their package tomorrow... I am still looking for a tracking number!

first time wooter here,
I saw this deal and had to get the machine, and its been hard to contain my excitement. so far no i haven't gotten a shipping date or tracking number. Is it possible that I ordered it after their inventory had already been cleared and they just haven't varified or am i just panicking?

EDIT: did some digging and found this post by panzercannon01. Followed his instructions and saw that it was shipped and arriving in approx. 2 days! Thanks panzercannon01!

go to fedex.com
track by reference
enter your order number
enter your country
enter your zipcode

you should then see a shipment or two referenced, if it has shipped out yet.

woot takes a while to send out the emails I have been told, even if your package is on it's way.

I'm not the best resource, but I just manually uninstalled everything. Without any windows or driver discs I was cautious about doing anything drastic. The first thing I did when I booted it up was to make a recovery image.

Hooray, 5 days later, I have a tracking email. Yet it took 4 days for it to get from LA to Sacramento... I could have walked there in that time.

My laptop has been apparently sitting in CITY OF INDUSTRY, CA since the 7th, and my tracking information hasn't updated since then. To complicate things further, I had woot change the shipping address to a different delivery location in a different state after the package already left. So basically, I'm expecting the laptop to show up sometime between now and the end of 2011.

Got mine today. Only had a couple hours to play with it, but got a few thoughts:
A lot faster than the Dell D620 I have
I definitely notice the screen's low resolution.
A lot of bloatware. I spent a couple hours just uninstalling everything.

Got mine yesterday, did a clean format and install of Windows 7. Reinstalled all the drivers and some of the applications. You need to have some of the Samsung applications in order to access certain features. You have to have "Fastboot" in order to change power settings. FYI in order to disable "Sleep on lid close" you have to open up the fastboot application and turn it off, then you can adjust all of the power settings. And you have to have "Easy Monitor Adjustment" or something like that for the function hot keys to work with screen brightness, volume, etc. You have to have the "Chargeable USB" program to activate that feature.

As a heads up, you cannot use the USB 3.0 ports as bootable media. They use a third party controller (Renesas) and are not recognized in BIOS as bootable. If you are installing from a USB drive, you have to use the 2.0 ports on the right side of the laptop. Also, make sure you download the LAN and/or Wireless drivers before performing a clean install as Windows 7 does not have drivers for the hardware on this laptop (if you were thinking you would just do a clean install and then download the drivers from the internet once you were booted up).

I wiped the recovery partition and forgot to save Cyberlink PowerDVD, if you do a clean format and install you will lose blu-ray playback through that application. I think I am going to contact Samsung to see if I can get another copy or at least a serial/product key in order to install it. I don't think Windows 7 has blu-ray playback natively in Media Player.

Otherwise, the laptop flies without all the bloatware. I have a 1st generation Core i5 model of this same laptop (RF510-S01) with some minor tweaks and day to day performance is pretty comparable. I haven't installed any games on this one yet, so I'm not sure if it will play them better or not. The Windows Experience Index is higher on every category except the hard drive, which is the same on both. Photoshop works great, smooth, no lag. Haven't had a chance to check out battery life, but I assume it is comparable to the other laptop I own. 3-4 hours doing normal stuff (browsing, email, etc.), 2ish hours playing games or watching movies. The build quality is nice, though I don't have much to compare it to. The keyboard doesn't flex, the keys feel nice. The touchpad is responsive and multitouch scrolling works fine. The finish on the lid is nicer than my other one, shows fingerprints less. I would have preferred bluetooth instead of Wimax, but not really a big deal. WI-DI is a nice addition, I'll probably pick up an adapter to try it out.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with this purchase. I can't tell it's a refurb, probably just an open box or return. I got it for less than my core i5 460M, nvidia 330M version that I just bought 6 months ago for $730.

Just got my machine today in the mail, upon boot up got the message:

reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key

I've started googling already, but if anybody on here can lend some wisdom that would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: After some research found out that it has to do with the boot order in the BIOS. I went to set boot priority and it looks like this,
1.SATA CD : P1: TSSTcorp DVDWBD TS-LB23D
2.SATA HDD : N/A
3.USB KEY : N/A
4.USB CD : N/A
5.USB FDD : N/A
6.USB HDD : N/A
7.NETWORK : N/A

Can anybody explain what I'm looking at, and why when I set the Harddrive to step one it still gives me the "Reboot and select proper boot device.." error?

It looks like your hard drive is not showing up at all by the N/A next to it. At least the memory and processor are working if you are POSTing and getting that error. I would pull the HD and re-insert to make sure it is mounted. I've had them get loose while shipping.

So I just got mine, and everything works great! Only problem is I seem to have a dead/stuck pixel on my screen. When the screen is showing black it's red.

Any ideas on a fix? Is this something I should contact either woot or Samsung about?
