Guy here at work has one, the display on it looks like crap, dull and flat.

Really considering this as my first woot. This is one of the tablets I really wanted before I opted for an Acer A100.

joecooool wrote:What is the security on this device? I HATE my GTablet because there is no security at all. Can this be password protected?

Usually on Android you should just have go to settings>location>security, and you can configure from there. Otherwise, there are multiple apps on the market.

Aw, that's probably just his screen protector or he ate fried chicken before last using it.

Not inundated by snobbery? Have you been reading the Apple vs. Android posts in this thread?

I bought one a few weeks ago when this was a regular (non-woot-off) item and I LOVE it. No issues thus far even though its a refurb.

LOL Because of my ex-girlfriend. And the one before that. And the one before that. Current one can hold her own... I'm moving up in the world ;)

Bought mine the last time these were on Woot! Absolutely love it! Screen is big and brilliant. Automatically started syncing apps I had on my Droid X as soon as I turned it on. Been using it at work with remote login capability to our servers without any issue. Would definitely buy again, especially at this price! A great purchase!

I'd spend another $50 for a new Asus Transformer (though that would be 16GB, not 32). I've had one for several months now and love it.

Comparison of iPad2 vs Xoom:

If you wondered how well they stand up to being dropped then this video is for you:

The colors looked much better on ipad2, any way to change contrast/color settings on the xoom?

10. Because it has a much better graphics processor.

09. Because it allows you to download apps that were not "approved" by Apple's app police.

08. Because you can customize the look of it to your desire instead of being stuck with brand mandated look.

07. Because you believe in individual freedom and are not a clone.

06. Because you support open source environments.

05. Because you dont' want to look like all of your friends.

04. Because you enjoy having real navigation instead of one button that takes back to the previous screen.

03. Because there are way more free android apps out there.

02. Because it would be really nice to see the adobe flash app on the page you are visiting.

01. Because Apple sucks and has way too many people hypnotized with their cult of brand identity.

I second this. My XOOM's auto-brightness setting keeps the display pretty dim. When I crank up the brighness, the screen looks great.

Well, for starters, Fire is 7" and this is 10". Secondly this runs Honeycomb and Fire doesn't.

The Asus Transformer now goes for $399 or less. If you are looking for a brand new android tablet that is at least as snappy as the Xoom.

it is a great tablet. i had it when it first came out, only reason i returned it was because they didn't have the micro SD slot working, no netflix, and no skype which were all 3 the main reason i got it. but now that those are working i wish i had more money so i could get it cause i am kinda tired of my ipad

- The sales figures of Android vs iOS

The gtab is fine, hardware wise, but the screen isn't good. I gave it to my BF and waited for something better, then grabbed a Touchpad for $149... the touchpad screen is beautiful and I'd rather have it, even with the HP OS on it, than an apple product... though I suspect at some point I may move it to Android.

More Xoom, less making this personal about hypothetical women-time please.

I mean, let's throw some perspective down - we're all talking online about this. No really, think about that for a sec.

Still with me? Cool. So how about that Xoom?

Nabbed it when it came up a couple weeks ago. Still loving it.

Thing's got excellent construction, it's very fast, and works great. I've been carrying it with me everywhere, even leaving my laptop behind at times.

Battery life is amazing; I've got wifi always-on, and I can use G-Mon to leave it in wardriving mode for as long as 10-12 hours. My Android 2.2 phone can't even last three hours in that configuration. I forgot to turn off the wardriving app when I went to sleep last night, and forgot to plug it in, and it was only down to 27% battery when I got up this morning.

Charges incredibly fast, too. I'd estimate 15% for 25% of battery.

My only real complaint is that it shows up as an MTP device instead of USB Mass Storage, which complicates some of my usages of it. It also appears to have its internal-visible storage as an internal SD card, and so I was unable to use the microSD slot to copy files.

I was a fan of HP handheld devices for 20 years, starting with the programmable calculators in the early '70s.

The company has taken some weird turns in the last few years. I'll stick up for them if they manage to stop the looniness at the top of the company.

No it does not. Not even close to the same form factors.

Xoom
249.1mm (h) x 167.8mm (w) x 12.9mm (d).

iPad
185.7 mm (h) x 241.2 mm (w) x 8.8 mm (d)
