Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hollywood loves a remake. That knowledge is so commonplace even that's become cliche. So instead of rehashing another tired "There Are No New Ideas" argument, intrepid Nick Bosworth decided to let their video editing (and the cast of John Carpenter's 1982 masterpiece The Thing, itself a remake) do the talking. The result is a pretty nifty chunk of video making the rounds on the internet.

(Mind the NSFW language and scary Thing footage)

Okay, it's a re-remake. Okay, the reviews say it's not very good. Are you still going to see it? Or are scares not really your thing?

The (2011) Thing is NOT a remake in any way. It's a prequel. It ends with the opening scene from the 1982 The Thing.

Sure it's a prequel. It's a prequel that looks (based on previews) to be the exact same story line....

Well, it's the same monster, it has the same abilities and causes the same paranoia/distrust that was a major theme in the first. A lot of horror movies have sequels/prequels with essentially a retelling of the same premise with different characters, it doesn't make them remakes. Heck, look at those stupid Meet the Parents movies, they didn't even bother to change the characters! :P

[spoiler maybe? my facts are based on the 1982 movie]

Did you even see the 1982 one? The Norwegian camp was destroyed first.. The Americans went there and figured out that they had found something under the ice and it had killed them all. This new movie tells that story. If it was a remake it would retell the same story as the 1982 movie. This was built into the plot of the 1982 movie its not some sort of retroactive continuity adjustment. And because everyone dies you can't have any of the actors be the same it wouldn't make sense.
