I have never believed the sales figures posted by Woot. And this time they really go too far. The idea that 11% of the buyers bought 2 or more of this unneeded, laughably overpriced, expensive toy is absurd.

One really expensive fan or multiple wine woots? Think I'll save my money for wine woots.

Wow...not a deal at all. I remember seeing the smaller versions of these fans in stores. They're overpriced, don't push enough air and they have fans in them! There are little fans in the bottom pushing air up. If it was somehow magnetically controller with no moving parts, that would be impressive (and physically impossible). This is just a dumb gimmick.

Why is this even on Woot? It's not a deal. It'd be a deal if it was for $30...because that's actually what it's worth.

The problem with this for me isn't the price so much as anyone who sees it knowing that I blew over two hundred bucks on a fan.

I love moving air, my house is filled with fans, no Dyson Air Multipliers though. The one thing I know is fans gather dust, how can you possibly clean this thing if you cant get to the impellers? Seems like an extremely bad design, but then I don't own one.

Why are so many in South Dakota needing a fan?

Because the stink from Sioux City tends to drift North, and without an abundant supply of fans to counter this effect, the state of South Dakota would soon smell as bad as Iowa.

Technically, it has moving fins in the base. Fins sound less scary than blades; but impellers sound more scary than fans.

I would like to see what science Dyson's research and development team did on this product line, outside of "let's come up with a way of marketing an attractive, shiny fan so we can charge ten times as much money as everyone else does."

I want to know why a fan that supposedly does not "buffet" the air is somehow worth 1000% of the price of a "standard" fan (really, who cares...we've been using the current design for decades and I can guarantee you it'll be around for decades more, and I just don't see enough people complaining about buffeting to make this product revolutionary in any way). I stood in front of one of these at a store, and stood in front of several of my own fans of varying styles, from "tower" to "pedestal" to "desktop". I felt almost no difference. I cranked it all the way up and it certainly didn't feel like it had "16 times" the airflow. I have a Holmes pedestal fan that, on low speed, will create a veritable wind tunnel in my bedroom. And when it comes down to it...this is a FAN, people. An electric motor, a propeller, and a plastic housing. Do you think Dyson spent even $100 manufacturing this? Do you think they spent enough time researching and developing an already-known concept to warrant such a high price point?

So what, then, are you paying the extra 900% for? It must be style and name. Dyson seems like the Apple of appliances. It makes pretty things that are groundbreaking in style and design, but not in functionality, and it sets prices exorbitantly high for what you get. This fan is a very cool and futuristic-looking item to have in your home. If that's worth the extra money to you, and if you don't care about the value your money brings you, buy it! But, I assure you, assuming you aren't the princess who slept on the pea, you won't notice any significant difference between this and a tower or pedestal fan that costs 1/10th of what this does. It's a gimmick.

Another vote 4 the simple box fan. Not only is it one-tenth the price of Dyson's "art," it can also multi-task as a food dehydrator (as Alton Brown showed us on "Good Eats").

This is price gouging. Shame on Dyson

These fans are cool! Great technology - and actually a very low power way to move a lot of air due.

I won't buy one, it is actually sickening to see how high they price them. This is a very simple fan actually. It is just a matter of the particular shape used. The actual fan in the bottom is small and not expensive either.

The reason why these fans are so 'cheap' is because Woot! bought all of the re-packaged fans from the balloon video previously posted.

jayducharme wrote:This is really the only advantage of this fan. I got one for my wife after she had an operation in the summer. She could feel the buffeting from a normal fan and didn't like it. But she loved the airflow from the Dyson. It did make a difference to her, and it's still the fan she prefers using. But they're a bit overpriced IMO.

The reason this fan doesn't have buffeting is because it moves so little air.

But if you love this fan for that reason, I've got a carving knife to sell you which is awesome and guaranteed never to cut your finger.

All this talk about what a lousy deal this is. But really, chaps, this is JUST the fan I need for sitting at my window while sipping fine cognac and smoking cigars (that I light with hundred-dollar-bills) while staring out at the great mob of the unwashed '99%.'

wine.woot has 'black-tie-buys'. This is just a black-tie-and-tails-buy for the executive subset of woot's customers.

The sad part is that they could have used a squirrel cage fan in the base and, maybe, had a superb product. That would have been quieter and more efficient.

It really is odd that they didn't do that.

Dyson fanboys are right up there with iPhone/Macbook/etc. fanboys. No matter how much the evidence is there, they will not believe that similar performance can be had for less. They are completely enamored in the slick marketing.
