Nice thing about where we live. We are on the German border and Berlin is only 1 hour away, to the east of us it is mostly rural with a lot of small villages. Polish people in the small villages usually don't have a lot of money and are pretty self reliant and it seems all of them have a family member or knows someone that slaughters their own pigs or hunts and know how to make all manner of tasty things from them. I will even eat kaszanka (pig blood and barley sausage) if somebody's grandfather made it from their own pig.

I had a turkey/bacon club and baked mac & cheese.

Afternoon all!

Home from Vegas last night. If you count all of the money I spent on food/drink/tips/taxi, etc... I think I came out ahead about $450 - $500.

I came home with $150 extra than what I left with. Of course I'll get reimbursed for about $150 of that cash I spent so I'm doing pretty darn good!

slept late and now I'm working from home today. Too tired to go into the office. Got home at 11:30 pm last night and couldn't fall asleep for a couple of hours....

Yep, this is normal. So what's from northeastern PA? I had a lot of sardines, beef barley, pickled herring. I never could do the pickled pigs feet. My mom ate those. Good German stuff.

I did eat pigs feet cooked in the tomato sauce. Because they were a pia to clean, grandma never made enough. We only got a half.
My dad really liked them, but he was the one pickling mystery meat in the unheated vestibule.

Well definitely pickled pigs feet. And ox roast. You remember ox roast don't you? BTW, you mean Northwestern PA don't you? PA is part of the Northeast US, even if it boarders the Midwest Ohio.

Well, since we are across the river from Germany, we see a lot of them, especially on weekends. They come to shop because prices are generally lower in Poland in general and cigarettes and gas are taxed less than in Germany and much cheaper. It is kind of a love/hate relationship because the Poles generally dislike the Germans due too the WWII thing but the Polish people don't mind taking the German's money at all. My wife has lived here all her life and had to cross the border all the time in the communist days. She said the German border guards always treated her and the other Poles terribly.

I have a great recipe for ox roast. Haven't fixed it in a while. I think the only place to buy it is at the Cherry Festival. Yeah, northwest.

Urbaniak's deli in Erie is pretty famous for their ox roast. Next time you go that way, check it out. For those not from NW PA, no oxen are injured in the making of ox roast, it is just a local name for thinly sliced, slow roasted roast beef in its own juice.

Seconded! I'm glad you can be there for her.

My Dad reported that he is now half-way through his radiation treatments, and in he own words feels great! Not tired at all (well no more than any guy stuck on the night shift). He also has a new CPAP so is sleeping better too.

Trying to work out if we can go visit for Christmas (assuming low->no snow), but with the nocturnal schedule and my kids not knowing the real meaning of quiet... we'll see.

Missing ASL class because Ver3 is napping and I haven't looked for a sitter for the hour and a half class, hmmm.

For dinner - Bertolli Meal Soup and a sandwich. This one was chicken minestrone. Mmmmmm-mmmm, good.
