The snide remarks weren't little at all, they were big!

Well, another day has passed and I didn't use algebra once.

Question. If I have a document open in Word and want to copy something else on a blank page, how do I find the blank page? I've looked all over.

To start a new page in the same document: CTRL-ENTER (fastest) or Insert > Break > New Page.

To start a new document: CTRL-N or File > New

Going to whatever restaurant we find open. Heh. Maybe a movie. Who knows.

I don't cook Thanksgiving meals. Haven't in years. Son always went to ex's house for Thanksgiving and he'd order a prepared meal from the grocery store.

I'm thankful for a lot of things but I don't need to cook a big meal to prove it.

PS: Are you using Office 2010 now?

Does it have tabs instead of menus?

If so, then File > Help. You'll see the version on the right side.

If it has traditional menus (File, Edit, View...), then never mind.

Yes and no. You will need to buy Office and yes, it will be the new one by 10 years.

You can get the new Office at a better price using one of your grandkid's IDs via this place: JourneyEd

Good morning everybody! The weather was lovely yesterday but it is drizzling now. We have found a jogging path but haven't tried it yet. I hope we can try it later this morning. I'm going to make a pumpkin pie, sweet potato casserole and dressing today. It will just be the three of us for dinner tomorrow so I need to cook smaller amounts. Hubby says I cook for an army! Safe travels!

edit: Congrats AZ on 69k!

If you have the original one, you can reload it. You still have license rights to it.
I think there's prolly a way to find out your authorization key code. If you can find a copy of the software, even if it belongs to someone else, as long as you input your authorization key, you ought to be allowed.

I just got an email in my junk folder from Dave&Busters saying that they'll be open on Thanksgiving, if you have any of those nearby. Sure the food's only so-so, and the games are way overpriced, but at least it's something to eat and do that's open.

Because it's smart enough to stay the hell away from anything released after Office 2003. I don't care if TT has drunk the kool-aid. Fact still remains that Microsoft's "Ribbon" is one of the worst UI decisions ever made in recent computer history.

I saw where Bill Gates is saying that they had to sabotage Wordperfect when they released Windows 95, and, by the way, Word was way, way better than Wordperfect anyway.

What a lying liar! Wordperfect was so much better. -and Excel has never been any good- talk about the worst software to make a data graph with!

I liked WordPerfect, too. Especially being able to see what commands were there in order to see where you fouled up.

Precisely!

Unfortunately, Excel is often the only tool you're given for data presentation due to budget/compatibility issues. And so over time we've learned to make do with the sub-standard product. And then Excel '07 comes along and removes what little useful functionality was there, to make room for a bunch pointless cosmetic options.

Saying "I'm used to it now" is a piss-poor excuse. You wouldn't say "My husband physically and verbally abuses me daily but that's okay because I'm getting used to it," so why accept the customer abuse from microsoft without question?

When I say I'm used to it, I mean I found all of my commands on the ribbon and can do everything I did before.

I actually like 2010 better. The only experience I have with other spreadsheet programs was Lotus, back in the WYSIWYG days.

So... I can do what I need to in Excel, easily find my commands and am efficient. So, I'm happy with it.

I'm not trying to solve world peace with it, just do some basic spreadsheets. so it's good enough for me!

Former co-workers at another company were forced to switch to Lotus Notes for everything - and they all absolutely hate it. So I'll stick with what I got.

I used Sigmaplot for a long time. You want standard error bars on your bars? no problem! Standard deviations? easy peasy! You want to also show the scatter of the raw data? got you covered!

and at that time, with Excel, you had to fake it, by putting a line plot on your bar graph, and figure out where the ends of the lines had to be. To add a scatter plot, you had to overlay another graph, and make the axes invisible. it was a horror!

There's something to be said for using standardized tools though...I'm getting ready to clone a windows 96 machine because it's running software used for assays...and the company that made the software ceased to exist 10 years ago, the single remaining licensed install (on 3.5 disks) might not run on a new machine, and the existing box doesn't have or support USB.

So, millions in vaccines, relying on obsolete technology. Kind of scary. Doesn't impact the product, but it's a big deal regarding complying with government reporting!
