Ah, the tree is up. No ornaments but it's lit. And a few festive decorations. Lots can't be put up yet because the buffet's in the living room, the windowsills are yet to be silled, and we no longer have the entertainment center that we had last year. But all the doorknobs have jingle bells on them, which I'm sure is going to delight the guys coming tomorrow to paint.

And to make the season brighter, I discovered I have a mammogram scheduled for tomorrow. Yay.

Ok guys, I need some advice. Kind of a long story, but I'll try to sum it up in the least amount of words. Long ago, I hired this guy to work at my hotel. After some time, he left to work at a different hotel, but stayed on and helped us whenever we were in a bind. He was never a great employee, but he was very dependable. Well, we recently lost another employee and he wants his job back. Like I said, he was always dependable and he's a very sweet guy, and he's helped us out SO much, but I don't really want to hire him back full time. He kinda smells, he works dreadfully slow, and his coworkers don't like him a terrible lot. Problem is, I don't have much of an excuse not to! How do I get out of this??

You need someone that can fill the job in a timely fashion and works well with the existing people. You don't really owe this guy anything, and just based on that rationale alone you could find someone else easily.

Be candid. Tell him you really like his dependability,and would like to hire him back. But also say you're concerned about his pace of work and that dealing with the public requires a higher level of good personal hygiene. And, if he gets the message, hire him back on a contingency basis.
