Leaving for Seattle in the morning. Just packing a suitcase & getting dog to sitter, and arrange cat stuff for sitter, plus picking up a tiny bit made me so tired I fell asleep for a few seconds at a Gaither concert (a couple of members at our church). Hope nobody noticed. Now back aches and I am not tired. But morning comes in a few hours. Hope I get some computer time in to check in with you guys. If not, happy halloween and best wishes for everyone who is having problems. Joyner, your Mom coming around after no nourishment for 9 days is a miracle. For however long she rallies, it is a wonder opportunity for you to just be with her.

Or Poof.

By the way, Hubby loves the screaming witch thing. He has decided that the stuff you sent is everything Halloween is to a kid.

I forgot to bring it to the spook walk. Then again, almost nobody was there. There was no notice that it would be tonight. Only a phone call from the town.
But it was still nice walking in the dark through the gardens!

OH, I found the guy who asked me if I had my duct tape. I asked him what the duct tape was for. He said after a zombie bites off your arm, if you can get it back, you can duct tape it back on.
Good to know for tomorrow.

Thanks. I know the parents think it's junk. It is junk. But this is the stuff the kids beg for when they walk through a store and the parents won't buy. I do the same thing on Valentine's and Easter. Until they get to a certain age, then it's a $10 gift card.

Last year there was an IV bag full of blood that was really neat.

Have a nice trip up Klozit.

Got my pumpkin carved. Pictures coming to G+, maybe FB if I'm bored. Need to find my LED pumpkin lights. Didn't use them last year because we never got the pumpkins carved, so I'm not sure where they are.

Joyner I'm so happy you got a wonderful day with your Mom!

I've got some woot glow sticks I think I'll snap half a dozen and hand those out and then drop another pack (2 to a pack) in the bag. We've never had more than 8 and that includes my kids.

Agree. And it's not that it's not safe. From what I've read, there's almost no real findings of a sharp object in candy that was got from a stranger. The media just blows things all out of proportion.

Honestly, when I check candy, I'm more looking for wrapper failure at the manufacturer that could have been banged up by how many times the candy has been dropped on the ground and handled. (my kids still drop stuff out of buckets and candy is handled pretty heavily before we ever get around to eating it.)

Good morning.
(hugs) to Joyner. It is truly a blessing that you have had a little more time with your mom.

We get no kids here at all.
One year we got a trailer load of hispanic kids from the barrio...but not even that now.

My f-i-l got moved to the rehab hospital last evening. He is in ICU because those were the only available beds.

In the end only kindness matters

I haven't gone through Halloween in this house yet, but bought a couple bags JIC. Around here, there are two roads in town that are shut down and everyone goes there. Most of the residents hand out candy, decorate, etc. It's a big deal-some places project scary movies on the side of the house, one place sets up a maze, there's a haunted house, werewolves, etc. We took the kids last year, had fun.

This year, no kids. Plus the snow. So we'll see.

I haven't checked the backthreads, but warm wishes to those in need.

Happy Halloween, PWA.
Living in the suburbs, we get plenty of kids going door to door, and have stocked accordingly. Since both of us are out with the kids, we set out the honor system bucket (aka free-for-all).

Where I grew up, in Queens, we were close to Brooklyn. Ghetto brooklyn, not expensive Brooklyn.
After I moved out, the parents in Brooklyn discovered our neighborhood. The race issue was calming down.
Suddenly there were tons of kids, with their parents, in my neighborhood.
My mom asked the parents why and they said, our neighborhood isn't safe.
Since it was young kids and parents, not teenagers, nobody cared and it went on for years

One year we had to go to my moms house on halloween. My kids freaked out! How would they trick or treat???
We got there and they discovered the joy of semi attached houses on 20 foot wide plots of land! Less walking, more houses!
Plus people hadn't seen me in awhile and gave the kids extra stuff!

After that they wanted to go every year. But we stayed with their friends.

Worst year, a kid decided we should go to his neighborhood. With the bigger houses. Long walk between the houses and then nobody home. Tried that for an hour before the kids voted to come back here.

What happened to going on your own? From 1st grade, we went with friends. No parents.
My kids went with parents.

We lost power for about 15 hours. Went out around 5pm Saturday, flickered on for 5 minutes around 9am Sunday. Came on a bit before noon, stayed on so far.

Sewer issues...Turns out the grinder pump and control panel were stolen before we bought the house. Can see where it was, wires are still there--and we saw them, but didn't know what they went to and everything seemed to work, so didn't worry. Ah, well. Tank has to be pumped, new panel and pump installed.

Only consolation is that the panel and pump that were stolen are apparently really prone to failure. So, Karma will pay a visit to the thieves. :D

Sewers are so much easier.
When we bought the house the daughter said, you are hooked up to the sewer. We still wonder if there is a cesspool somewhere on the property.

That was the bit that surprised me. We are on city sewer (I just paid the bill, damn increase in rates!)--this is something that sits outside the house and the waste goes into the tank, then through a pump that grinds it up, then it goes into the main lines. Apparently it was stolen while sitting in foreclosure.

Good morning everyone.

Ice and Joyner, looks like things are improving. That's great.

Notice we haven't heard from Lynn, I'll bet she's buried.

Nobody's parents went with them trick-or-treating when I was going out, but I can understand why it is now. Always went with my kids.

Contractor just called, they'll be demolishing the deck in the morning for the first step of the addition. Woo-hoo! At 8:00. Ooooohhhh.
