Its usually runs pretty well but don't expect it to run everything at max. You can get away with running WoW on it for sure. Some tech specs:

For the most part, you should be able to comfortably run most games on it on oe before 2009. Maybe later games as well.

I would pick one up in a heartbeat if I needed one. I currently own two Acer Aspire's, an AMD X2 w/ 4gig ram, and decnt graphics. It was a refurb I bought 3 years ago and I have never had one problem with it. The second is an Aspire almost a year old. Bought it for my wife and wish it was mine. The led lcd screen is AWESOME. Its an Intel i5 and a beast.

I also have a brand new HP Elite Book i7 with 4GB mem and all the goodies, I use it for work, not mine. Its got juice but I dont see that big a difference. Granted Im not doing real benchmarks, just working the hell out of them.

And to those saying Acer is not a known name, maybe not to you. Doesn;t everyone remember when micr0s0ft was sending Acer Ferrari laptops to people loaded with the first copies of Vista.

CineCrystal LED LCD, my two are beautiful. Not good for playing games with better graphics than WOW, but plays that very well on high settings.

According to Consumer's Report, Acer is the most reliable (tied with Toshiba). See December and the June issues. But really not a huge difference in any of the brands.

Acer Support Sucks.

I bought my wife a new acer laptop last December as a xmas gift. 2 weeks ago the screen died. A few days later the whole laptop died. It's now two weeks later of faxing and emailing them but they keep saying they won't honor the proof of purchase. At various points I've been told the warranty was 6 months or 1 year - it is supposed to be one year. I explicitly asked what if the warranty covereage runs out before you get the proof of purchase into your system. I was told after the warranty period is up there is no support. It doesn't matter that the problem was reported before the warranty ended.

The laptop was great while it worked, but the support for getting it repaired is horrible.

I hope it's half way decent. I bought it for my kid's birthday. I wonder if there is any chance it will actually get here by her birthday on the 4th of November? Here's to hope!

One of the 17" big red Dell Studio laptops I bought on Woot 3 years ago conked out, so she is without one now. The other one is going strong though.

Hope it works out for her.......

I've been using my Acer Aspire laptop since 2008 and never had a problem with it except for a few messes I created myself. My sister gave me her new Dell but I prefer to use the Acer because the brightness of the screen is better. I think they're good products and I would consider buying another one if I needed it.

Got this same machine from Wally World and it's fast, fairly quick to boot, and haven't had any issues with it in the couple of months we've had it. It looks nice and my wife love's the machine and even likes the keyboard and the odd place for the touchpad. It's pretty sleek and doesn't seem heavy.

There's some bloatware on there, but it's pretty easy to ignore or uninstall.

I suggested it to my brother, but we couldn't find it online. He went to the local Wally World and got it for $30 bucks less than I paid for it.

If I had the money, I'd buy one of these since it's a $100 less than I paid for it.

It seems they may be letting Gateway rub off on them rather than the other way around. Still, from the link it looks like the Acer brand is still better than Gateway.

We've had two Acers. The first is an old entry-level Aspire bought in 2007 that has survived my husband dropping it and breaking the screen and then me replacing the screen. It's actually been dropped a few times but keeps chugging along. I mistakenly thought it had died when it was actually the weirdly coincidental death of both its power supplies. As a result I ended up (stupidly) buying the hunk of garbage Gateway NV53A I have now from Best Buy (more suckage) and then couldn't return it. The 2010 Gateway (with twice the RAM and cores) performs only marginally better in some areas than the 2007 Acer and crashed twice in the first six months with the hard drive having to be replaced (shipped back at my expense, too). The parts are cheap and flimsy and for several reasons I have come to hate it. Worse, one service tech didn't even know what hard drive came with my specific unit and their CS dept gave me incorrect information about it twice, and the processor specs continue to this day to be misrepresented on various sites.

Meanwhile the old Acer continued chugging along fine once the power supply was replaced.

The other Acer is a 2009 Aspire One netbook that has been extremely reliable, performs better than I would ever have expected, and has well endured being carried with me in a sling bag almost everywhere I go.

Now, this Aspire looks on the outside a good bit like my Gateway, which is concerning, but then again why wouldn't Acer pool with Gateway on things like the plastic parts they get manufactured for the exteriors? Hopefully the insides will still be more reliable than Gateway's. Despite the external resemblance, because I've been looking for a replacement for this Gateway and because I have come to trust Acer's level of quality, I would actually buy this laptop today if it were just a little smaller and lighter. For something that can be upgraded to 8g RAM, this is almost certainly a good value, even after adding in the cost of a Square Trade warranty (which I would probably do just to be safe).

Moral of this story=Acer seems (to me) to be a solid brand.

I bought a top of the line Acer in 2005 and used it as a desktop replacement. I was moving around alot with the military, so I thought the $1300 expense was justified. The performance of the thing was great, but the case design was very poorly engineered. The hinges for the screen were so stiff that repeated opening and closing actually made the bezel start to crack and become floppy. I bought a replacement bezel that I noticed had a different revision number thinking they ha recognized the issue. Nope, It did it again.
Their monitors also feel fairly flimsy and cheap compared to the competition.
Nowadays I build my own pc's and use hp monitors. I bought my first laptop since the acer last year refurbished from hp ( a mini 311) and it has been wonderful. Should last many times longer than the acer.
I haven't looked at much acer stuff since, but I hope they have improved their build quality.

Well, I'm in for one. I've decided as long as Woot keeps putting up big, fairly well spec'ed laptops for under 400 I'll keep buying them.

I bought the 17" HP last year with a lot worse specs and have since come to regret the lack of power so this Acer comes along at just the right time. I've ordered an 8gb ram kit and can't wait to live life in the fast lane once again!

See ya in about a year Woot!

yes, it will be a great comp for that. but since you want a travel comp think about the fact that it is "17.3" inch screen. I'ts big and a high quality screen, great for playing on but only if you are willing to take it with you. the laptop ways aprox. 7.8 pounds

Ummm..just a general fyi... all laptop screens (at this point in time) are LCD... LED refers to the "light bulbs" providing the back light. LEDs are generally brighter than CCFL, the other and older, back lighting options.

Someday they may use use LEDs for full color screens... but not yet on woot anyway.

oh by the way... this is true for Televisions also.

No, it looks like you can buy it online. Basically you buy the laptop then mail the old on to a recycling service, and Staples sends you a prepaid credit card.

Just 2 weeks ago I paid $30 more for what appears to be identical (can't find a statement of the model number, mine is 5552) save for a 320GB HD. Other than the hit it takes running Windows instead of Linux it compares favorably with my three other AMD quad core desktops. Its limited time on battery is perhaps the only drawback but for this kind of processing power you have to compromise some place.

You all need to just get on the "OnLive" trend. Cloud gaming is taking off and soon it is even going to be at 1080p. This system can run any game at the max settings through this service as long as a high speed internet connection is available.

I'm a real Acer laptop fan. I've owned about six of them since about 1995. My first one cost me $2500 but I needed it for my business and it served me well for about 7 years. None of them ever died and the only reason I had to retire them was obsolecense. My oldest one, an Athlon 64 1500 is still perking along.

I now usually use my Aspire One netbook. It runs Windows 7 Professional and Office 2010 professional just great. But... It has a small 10" screen and I do need a newer larger-sceen laptop.

This is a great deal. I just bought it.
