WoundedCow wrote:I've found the Thrive to be a little heavier than the iPad, but not so much as I care. It's rugged enough I can carry it on the floor of the manufacturing company I manage without having to have a protective security detail making sure it doesn't get damaged.

I throw it on the seat of my truck every night after work and it has fallen to the floor when slamming on the brakes to avoid a deer or fallen tree and still it works fine.

The battery life, while it said 10 hours, lasted only about nine one day, but I was using it extensively...what with searching the internet, playing on facebook, other things executives do while the minions work.

The apps are ok, there are plenty free ones and a few I needed that cost money worked pretty much as they should.

The wi-fi connected up easy both at home and at work and to the FBI Surveillance van.

Out of a possible 100 points, I'd give it a solid 92. Not perfect because of the placement of the second camera on the back and the volume controls on top.

M'eh...what're gonna do?

I would have seriously considered this if it had WACOM on it. With merely multi touch I don't see this better than an ASUS xformer.

For just a bit more you can get the new Asus Prime Transformer, which is the best android tablet ever made, and makes anyone with an Ipad think twice about their purchase.

I would pass on this one.

I have a better camera than this on my cheap Verizon cell phone. For the price (and it's a refurb!), it should include 3G. Also, Android 2.2? Really? Not even 3.0? When Samsung is about to launch products with 4.0? This is not worth $399. Never heard of Azpen, either. What a name. Who thought it would be good to name a company this when the first syllable sounds like an insult? I'm just graz-pen at straws here people!

This will take about 2.7 hours at the current sale rate.

Although with something like this, I suspect prospective buyers are currently reading reviews and stuff, deciding if they want it. It is kind of tempting but I can't afford one.

At any rate, now seems like a good time for me to grab some food.

Me too. For $100 more you can own a brand-new Apple instead of a refurbished no-name. To me you're getting quite a bit more for that mere $100. (There could be a good reason this thing is refurbished)

This thing is a joke....it runs last years android operating system. This brand has never come up in any of the tablet comparisons that I have read. Pass this up.
You can still buy ASUS Transformer, which is the best selling, Brand Name 10" Android Honeycomb tablet on the market! It's will be Brand New, Non-Refurbished for less than $390 shipped from Amazon.

Burning-Chrome wrote:A "couple" more features? Clearly you have never used an iPad and its half a million apps, many of them for free. My iPad can do about 95% of what I use my computer for, including sending pictures and documents to my wireless printer. Oh, and it doesn't blue screen like my computer does.

For people who actually understand technology and know how to use it, an iPad won't ever do anything close to what PC can do. I've worked in IT for over a decade now, and any tablet is good for a novice user. But for my work and what I do for fun and as a hobby, I will never be able to do on an iPad.

You're obviously only impressed by numbers, as a million apps means diddly squat to me.

Multi Capacitive screen???

Here's the cynic in me coming out.

For almost two years I've played around with tablets advertising capacitive screens. It's almost as if the company feels that by offering capacitive, they're offering touch that people associate with the iPad's state-of-the-art capacitive. Nine times out of ten I've been disappointed with their capacitive offering.

All capacitive are not created equal. I've owned at least three which supposedly had Apple quality capacitive. Yeah, sure.

Without using this, I really can't say for sure. But it's just another thing to consider when investing $400 into this.

And that's the gist of it, isn't it? The iPad is for end users, not IT. It's a consumption device, good for email, browsing the internet, and even light work. It's more than a capable device for most.

This product boasts 2 OS, neither of which is good for tablets. I will pass.

Buy a Nook Color for $199 or less. Root it, load CM7 and install a 32 GB card. You'll not have a camera, (use your phone) but more memory, an excellent Ebook reader, full Google Market access and a name brand company that supports it. Did this six months ago and love it.
Someone commented "why ever buy a table, not a netbook". The difference is, a netbook sucks as a reader. I own both but use them for different things. You can do everything with both, but some things are better on one or the other. Reading in bed with a Netbook isn't good. Typing a letter on a Tablet is more than tedious.

The 16GB drive is too small for Widows 7. Plan on adding the Android partition to the Win 7 partition, at least.

I plan on installing Ubuntu, so I would still get it.

I'm attempting to see the "hook" in this deal...what is supposed to make it appealing to me. Let's see:

Total no-name brand I've never heard of

Old Android

Refurb

$400 gets me awful close to a new name-brand Android tab or a refurb iPad1 3G 32gb from Apple, either of which are light years more likely to be supported long-term

Not seeing the value here. Gut reaction is that this should be priced in the $200-250 range given the above points.

Maybe I'm crazy.

I actually picked one of these up when they rolled around deals.woot. I don't know if I got a faulty one, but mine was pretty unusable. In either OS lag made even switching pages a pain. If it worked smoothly it would be deserving of $400 of my dollars. Alas, it did not.
