After all the problems that Samsung televisions have been having lately (just Google "Samsung capacitor" and check the top link), I am extremely hesitant to purchase any other Samsung product. Then again, that's because I am one of the affected with a bad television that they're refusing to repair, and I'm a bit peeved. I know that tv /= laptop, but still. :/

Samsung will not honor the 90 warranty when the laptop is purchased from a 3rd party (woot).

This S01 version has a recalled processor chip set. You will need to pay Samsung if you want it fixed.

I think I can find a better price...especially since I don't think I need all these features. Thanks though.

Bah, you guys always gotta run the decent stuff right after I've killed my wallet on something else.

This is a really good notebook from the looks of it. The #1 problem I find with low to medium spec lappies is the graphics package is incapable of playing older games or newer, fancied-up applications. 525M is a pretty solid chip, this rig won't be getting obsolete anytime soon.

The TV issue seems (somewhat) easily fixable. Happened to a tv at work and they were able to fix it.

Your backlit keyboard point is nitpicking. No computers in this price range have a backlit keyboard.

The other thing you dinged it for is its "outie" CD eject button. What laptops have recessed CD eject buttons? Looking at Woot's pictures it seems like pretty standard placement and size to me, though in all fairness I haven't handled it. Perhaps it's especially touchy? I've never heard of anyone else having this sort of problem, especially to the point of breaking off the CD tray.

Plus, poor placement doesn't automatically lead to a broken off cover. How did that even happen? Presumably you had your hand on the CD tray as you were picking up the laptop, you activated the button, and the drive ejected into your hand. Is it one of those that spring loads out (the majority in what I've experienced) or is it a slower tray action (more like you'd see on a traditional desktop)? Why did even fully open? The way I'm seeing this dealbreaking issue, the thing pops out a half an inch and your hand is right there - how is the tray being snapped off a likely result of that?

For movie watching, that's completely true but not as far as screen monitor resolution.

I just started editing videos and pictures and I absolutely have no clue of what is the best computer to do that at a reasonable price. I need a strong support for graphics and enough space and speed to run my editing software. I'm just talking amateur here, nothing too fancy of complicated. Will this be a good option to run (read ruin) the editing task I gave myself just because I have no life therefore I have nothing better to do?
Help please?

I bought an RC512 from Woot on Oct 4 for $650 and I'm very happy with it. (happier than the people who bought the same computer for $700 on Woot a month previous). There have been three concerns about the computer and I think they are all easily resolved.
The 1366x768 screen resolution is fine. Actually with Windows 7 you can resize the images on any window, even the desktop, by bringing two fingertips together or apart on the trackpad.
Even when displaying two full pages of info on screen the fonts are all still legible.
The trackpad(including multi-finger controls) can be configured to be fairly comfortable (Except scrolling on the Opera browser is too fast for some reason).
The Realtek Audio Manager control panel has a Graphic Equalizer button under the "Sound Effects" tab that allows very fine control of the speakers. I started with Effects > Environment "Padded Cell" and tweaked the Equalizer and the speakers sounds better than the twenty or so laptops I've worked on.

I bought this laptop on the last woot for $50 bucks more and am going to buy another. I'm using it specifically for a graphics and show computer, and it runs anything that PowerPoint can throw at it. I take the HDMI out directly into our 1080 switcher and have had zero problems. I used it to do a video conference call from China that was also broadcast on a 16' projection screen and the quality was great. The only problem I've had is with trying to update windows, some of the previous owners settings didn't get purged-- I would like to do a fresh install of Windows, but the disks were not included. Everything else about the computer looked and performed like new.

Never wooting again. I've learned my lesson about inferior customer service and employees that illegally modify your signature (18 U.S.C. § 1029). Grow up, woot. Starts up super fast not even counting the Samsung fast boot, which I now cannot live without(think hibernate, but instant like 3 seconds instant)

does not really get hot. Screen resolution sucks a bit at 720p but connect it to a high res monitor and it is beautiful.

Also great price I dare you to find an i7 laptop with 1GB dedicated Video and 6GB DDR3 and almost a 1 TB of HD space for cheaper.

Oh also it does not come with a recovery disk only recovery partition and as for bloatware not that much some samsung tools. One for updating and one for backing up and a few misc ones. Comes with microsoft office 2010 office starter which gets the job done but has ads.

I agree. The refurb'd status does not thrill me, but for 600 bucks you are hard pressed to find a laptop that can game, this gpu is about the same as my 5650 and that thing performs like a champ, single player Crysis on high. And anyone complaining about the poor screen resolution should consider that this gpu probably couldn't handle very many games in 1080p.

Pros: The pills were there.
Cons: So was the tank.

I don't think it compares, this samsung is much better. Even without blu ray, the dedicated graphics card is worth buying over the toshiba.

The backlit was an afterthought to my main problem - the disk eject button. It's obviously an issue for me or I wouldn't have taken time to point it out...I don't post often.

If you'd like to know how this resulted in a broken laptop, just ask.

The bottom of the laptop is curved, therefore the outtie button projects a lot more. The problem is not only will a hand eject the tray....*anything* that touches it (a pad of paper, a pencil) can eject the tray. The way it broke that after months of ejecting in my hand, the plastic on the tray fatigued and broke off. This happened months ago. The only reason I haven't taken it to Best Buy is because it will happen again...that and I've already told my father he can have this POS and he can take it to Best Buy to fix.

As for innies vs outties...this is the first laptop since 2004 that I've had that didn't have a recessed eject button. The issue isn't one of innie vs outtie, but of poor design. If the bottom of the laptop is going to be curved, then either locate the eject button on a non-rounded part of the laptop, or make the button recessed. Doesn't seem all that difficult at all.

I just bought one of these less then 2 months ago brand new at Best Buy. I love it. BluRay tray is a little glunky but overall performance is superb. Plays games great (wow, cod, skyrim). After several hours of gameplay it gets a little hot but not too bad. The screen looks great but has that high gloss so its hard to see sitting on the deck. Good thing is you can make it really bright. Hooks up via HDMI to my LED tv and looks perfect. I have not had one valid complaint so far. The bloatware is not that bad. A few Samsung optmize programs that are actually not too bad. One being the "instant on" feature. Love it but wish I had waited 2 months now...

I love this laptop. I've had it about a month now and I've had zero problems with it. I did upgrade the hard drive to a 7200 RPM drive because I wanted no lag while running my graphic-intensive games which has been awesome finally being able to play with decent graphic settings without lag.

Things I really love about this laptop:
- The full keyboard which is hard to find in laptops these days
- The BluRay player and HDMI out so I can easily hook this up to our television to watch BluRay movies/shows we borrow from my parents (too cheap to buy actual BluRay movies). I haven't tried the WiDi
- The island-style keyboard because it is easier to clean dirt and crumbs out of
- How lightweight it is considering the screen size
- The glossy screen which is high enough resolution for me to get what I want out of it
- Brightness of the screen
- Built-in microphone
- The speed of using this computer is phenomenal, but that might have something to do with the upgraded hard drive
- It is so quiet!
- This computer stays very cool. I don't even need to use a chill pad when gaming for hours on end.

Things I don't like about this laptop:
- The speakers are SO quiet! Since I watch my workout videos on it, it really is a pain since I don't want to hookup external speakers for the 40 minutes I use it for the workout and it really isn't feasible to wear headphones in that situation. I can barely hear what they are saying! My 5-year-old laptop outputs double the volume easily.
- The screen glares in direct sunlight, so taking it outside or to the coffee house was a pain, but that was just for testing. I have a Netbook I use for that purpose.
- The battery life on mine is pretty crappy. It gets maybe two hours, but then again that could have something to do with new hard drive. I definitely wouldn't be able to watch a movie on it though. This is only a slight annoyance though since I have the Netbook for traveling and I haven't had a need to use the battery-only for more than an hour. My old laptop had the same battery issue, but it never was a major problem.

Overall though I am super happy with the purchase and am jealous it is $50 cheaper now. Oh and I haven't had a problem with hitting the DVD button on the side and having the tray open. I carry this all over the house too when I'm cooking or working out. I also don't care about Bluetooth since the only Bluetooth device I have is my cellphone, but I'd rather use the USB cord for it.

Signatures are harshing my mellow.

I bought one of these computers a few months ago as a gift for my son, who knows and understands computers far better than his father. I actually paid $50 more than the selling price today and I believe it's worth every penny. This little hot rod of a laptop is to computers what a Ferrari is to cars. My son demonstrated some of the features and I was amazed! You could actually use this laptop in the park with the WIMAX feature. He tells me that this laptop is the cutting edge of computers today and, needless to say, he loves it.
