Woe is me. I'm not getting any indication from the power led that it's even receiving juice. I thought I saw it flicker once, so I tried the reset button-paperclip trick. And nothing....

I tried 2 different chargers too, including the one it came with and another charger with the same specifications for another little tablet reader I have.

Aww man I really wanted this tablet to work out. I told my friends to buy this when it came out on the woot deal, I hope they're not having troubles like I am.

I got mine Friday and it works great! I had to charge it before it turned on and start-up was a little slow. But once it was past that Android screen, it ran fast enough for me. Now I just need to buy a new SD card.

chudleyone wrote:Sounds a lot like what Johncsun was describing. Have you updated the firmware from the Cruz site? It takes about 15 minutes from downloading to being installed & ready. That fixes a lot of the instability issues since it appears the refurb process may not have gone smoothly with some of these.

Thanks for reply. Yes i suppose i should have explained further detail. I first tried the firmware update from cruz site and it failed and totally crashed my machine; & would no longer power on past cruz screen. Somehow I was able to get the option of factory reset to come up. I did factory reset & it powered on. I then attempted firmware again. This time it succeeded. But the web browsing issue still remains. I just received a shipping label today and unfortunately am returning it. This was my first woot purchase. I'm disappointed but I am pleased that I have actually received replies back from costumer support; unlike the cruz manufacturer themselves.

My G2 can tether wi-fi so I was immediately able to download Youtube and Kobo, as well as sync my Kindle account. The tablet actually seemed to speed up after a few minutes of being turned on. It is not actually as quick to react from touch as my G2 phone, but as an eReader with benefits, it's one of the best purchases I've made lately, and easily my best Woot purchase to date.
Win.

did you have to do anything special to get it to connnect to your wifi, mine will not connect at all? It just keeps saying obtaining address.

I had to enter my router pass word a couple of times before it would register. Hope that helps.

Wow, never put your address in a public forum post. Seriously. That said, email service@woot.com for assistance. If it hasn't gone too far through the shipping process, they'll do their best to help you out.

jenbsu wrote:How do I return this? It is not what I expected?

Please refer to our Woot FAQs:

Will I receive customer support like I'm used to?
No. Well, not really. If you buy something you don't end up liking or you have what marketing people call "buyer's remorse," sell it on eBay. It's likely you'll make money doing this and save everyone a hassle. If the item doesn't work, find out what you're doing wrong. Yes, we know you think the item is bad, but it's probably your fault. Google your problem, or come back to that product discussion in our community and ask other people if they know. Try to call the manufacturer and ask if they know. If you give up and must return it to us, then follow on to the next FAQ entry.

Have you checked your spam/junk folder? Customer service is very good about getting back to people promptly and our emails do end up there pretty regularly.

I've forwarded this post on to my best buddy in CS though.

WANT TO ROOT?

Found a nice walkthrough. Came across only a few issues, the biggest was the fact that the tablet wasn't showing up correctly. If yu try this and have that issue, then do a factory reset or download the update form the velocity site. Otherwise, once I got everything to show up, this guide worked perfect!

I bought the cruz tablet and so far it works pretty well as a reader. The apps work fairly well as long as you don't try to run anything powerful. It plays videos pretty well but locks up after an hour. I found a memory manager that seems to have sped the system up. I have been trying to load the Netflix app but it kicks me out every time I try to get it from the android market website. My problem now that I have it running pretty well is the SD slot is broken and wont lock the card into place. I have a service ticket open with CRUZ but no reply yet on getting a number to send it back for repair. For what it does its not a bad unit, it does do face book and plays videos but after an hour it locks up. It could be a memory issue or the processor is over heating and freezing. I did convert the videos down to a portable format but have not tried it yet to see if that stops the freezing.
Update: it still freezes after an hour of running video and it will reboot but overall its still not bad for the price.

My questions is if I don't hear from cruz how can I send it back to woot for a refund ?

ANYONE CAN FIELD THIS ONE YOU WOOT MANIACS OR EMAIL ME ?

I just got mine in the mail, and it doesn't want to turn on. It boots and flashes the "android" logo, then it flickers the "unlock" slider screen, then immediately turns off. I thought maybe I didn't let it charge long enough, so I let it charge 4 hours. I still got the same error. I tried 8 hours, same issue.
What can I do?

You might want to try the re-set with paper clip mentioned in previous posts. That seemed to solve the problem for others.

Download the firmware from the cruz website. Put that on a SD card. Turn your tablet off. Insert the SD card in your tablet. Push the power button and the volume up button at the same time and continue to hold them till you see small text come up on the screen saying something about reading your sd card.

This will probably solve your problem

I treid this and it errors out. I wonder if it is due to this be 2GB and the firmware states it is for the 4GB.

I've had this little guy for 10 days now, and I am satisfied. It does exactly what I wanted it for. Video podcasts work well, YouTube too, music play all right, dolphin browser is a must. My own Videos would not play well, but I can live with it. E mail program is OK to say the least, as a picture viewer it is fine as long as you give it enough time to process each file, therefore the slideshow option is not working properly as the maximum time between each slide can not be more than 4 sec, need more than that. Scrolling could be pain as I am used to IPad where all you need to do is make slight swipe up- down or vice versa for it to scroll. This guy needs you to actually press hard and than swipe up or down otherwise if you just swipe slightly, it will actually open anything that your finger touch first. So be carefull with this. It is way slower than I pad or Kindle, but if you give it some extra time, and do not rush it, it will do just fine. Do not expect it to do some havy lifting due to a slow processor and lack of RAM, but if you need it for reading, checking emails, do some web browsing, showing your photos, listening to a music, watch YouTube and do some light word processing you shoul be just fine. I don't think I need to root mine and i'd like to ask those who did, if they like it more and if it's worth it .
Thanks

this is the absolute WORST excuse for a modern tablet I have ever seen! There are only a handful of apps available for it, the ones that DO work are incredibly slow. It won't run Flash video, so I can't use it for viewing most legitimate instructions video (i.e. lynda.com). It doesn't record audio so I can't use it for lectures or audio processing. The video it does run, is slow & jerky. I wish I had never ordered this thing. By the time it loads a webpage, I've already gotten tired of waiting and run it on my iphone. This thing is a pain in the ass! There's not even a film production clapper app available for it, or any tele-prompter apps. Complete waste of time & money. I will never buy anything else that Velocity (HA!) produces...
Just my opinion, mind you; I have not tested the unit under ideal laboratory conditions that whomever wrote the highlights did...
in short, this thing SUCKS!

This ISN'T a modern tablet. All you had to do was a quick internet search or read the 1st 2 pages of comments to know this is an older device with minimal RAM & a 500Mhz processor.

Comparing this to your iphone is like comparing a 1961 Ford van to a 2012 Porsche Cayenne. They'll both get you there but one will take 6 times longer than the other. Does your iphone run Flash?

It sounds like you are looking for a tablet that will cost $250+ & didn't do your research. Sell it on Craigslist for what you paid for it & spend some $$ if you want a MODERN tablet.

About the audio issues and the headphone jack:

I've run some audio tests and it appears that monaural components of any audio signal are cancelled from the headphone jack. I'm not sure yet if the internal speakers suffer from the same issue. This could occur if one channel is 180 degrees out of phase or because the "ground" terminal of the jack (and/or speakers) was cross-wired with the "hot" lead to one of the channels.

I'll fiddle around with breaking out the audio leads and see what develops. If it's a simple mis-wiring issue it will be easy to build a male-female headphone extension cable that corrects the wire routing. I've also submitted a VM support ticket.

BOTH of the units i received have very "muffled" dialog through the headphone jacks. Please check your headphone jack and report it to VM if it isn't working. I think this can fixed via firmware but that is a guess. System sounds are fine, but music and video seems to be outputting in Mono???

I had this problem with my tablet too: the dialogue was muffled to the point that you couldn't hear anything, but the background music ended up extra loud. Update the firmware from the VM website and it solves the problem... Still not the best audio quality in the world, but at least you can listen to music and watch movies.

If that fails try:

I tried flashing the firmware from the VM site, I hear no difference in the audio output. For most audio all that comes out is the difference between left and right channels (the L-R "Left minus Right" stereo component) I've lodged a VM support ticket but have not heard anything back yet.
