Edit: After I wrote to them about Woot not sending paper invoices they asked me to send a screenshot of the email. I had already sent them a text version of the email -- but sent them a BMP screenshot of Thunderbird and now they're happy.

Earlier:
Velocity Micro is declining warranty. They maintain that only a "photocopy of a receipt" is acceptable. Woot only issues emailed receipts.

I bought two, received them. One didn't even power up even once. After several emails to Woot and one phone call to the maker, Woot finally agreed to refund the tablets. Now almost two weeks after I sent them back, I still haven't received my money. Lets say I am less than enthused with Woot at this point.

For the price, this was one of the smartest purchases I have ever made. All I really wanted was an E-Reader. Now I get extra fun things as well. It can't do everything other tablets can do, but look what you pay for it. Would you expect something different?

I bought my cruz back middle of november and just visited here again to see that some peoples are having few problems. so i thought i would relate my experience.

i received the t301 "pre bricked". IE: if i turned it on it would flash cruz logo over and over. resetting didn't help.

i downloaded the 2.2 update from here:

however, hitting volume up and power button never got it to go into update mode. instead, i used adb from the android sdk to kick off the recovery. IE:

adb devices
# make sure that the cruz tablet shows up
adb shell
reboot recovery

at this point the tablet should reboot and start the install process (using the update.zip file on the sdcard). after that was done everything worked fine. i followed some of the posts at slatedroid.com to add gmail/maps/market etc.

What's the problem with getting someone who works for WOOT to return your e-mails. This is the second time my item has been returned because of wrong address. I don't know if they can read correctly r if they r n a hurry typing but I once again didn't get my item and I would like my money refunded back to me. Thank you Rosalynn Lewis

I know how you feel. They shipped mines to the wrong address twice and I have e-mailed them several times and nothing back from them. It's amazing how you can't get a reply back.

Ok I y'all have Recieved y'all tablet back so what's the hold up on returning my money to my card. It takes y'all less than an hour to take the money out people accounts but takes us forever to get our money back. I think that's a big problem just like u took it you need to put it back

Bought 2 of the Cruze tablets for Christmas gifts. Opened them both this morning and 1 was DOA. Would not power on, even when plugged in. white tundra frost is the situation here?

When I contacted Velocity about the audio problems they acknowledged the issue and asked me to send the unit in for repair (on my $13). Their tech reported the following:
Status Update:

Verified problem
Replaced unit
Updated firmware
Wi-Fi tested
Charging tested
Accelerometer tested
Touch-screen tested
Storage tested
Audio tested
Depending on the way your Headphones may be designed, you may need to leave 1/2 millimeter of space. Try not to push the headphones all the way in and see how that works for you
All other functions test normally
Shipping unit back in next business day

~~~~~ I expect they just sent me another unit with the same audio issues (broken by design). Pulling the headphone out by 1/2 milimeter only made the audio quit on the old unit!

You get what you pay for. It is probably the lowest price for any tablet, but it has many limitations, like no access to Android Market, occasional crashes and lockups that require a hardware reset. OK as a toy ;-)

How did you contact them and how were response times? I submitted a ticket 12/26 and have not had a reply. I'm calling today and get a busy signal every time.

I defintitely don't want the response you got.

Interested to hear if anyone reveived a unit that does not have defective audio (movie playback through headphones).

Update 12/30. Tech Support phones ringing today. No answer. Left message for call-back. Piss-poor experience so far.

Woo Hoo! Got my replacement unit last night and the audio jack works perfectly now! Now it's possible to use the unit for music or videos on the 16 GB SDHC card I installed. To eoghanmc: I contacted them using their web support site at http://cruzsupport.velocitymicro.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=5758. First I registered for warranty (support ticket) then I submitted my inquiry. Each correspondence took around 48 hours for a response. I saw this same model at Office Depot yesterday for $149.

This is a T301 and I have to say that unfortunately, this is NOT a value at any cost. The apps are only available through a proprietary link from the manufacturer or a third party site. There is a VERY long list of apps that are NOT compatible. The browser is sloooow the processor is slooow. I have had to reset this back to the factory setting EVERY single time I have used it. Battery life is huge mainly because once you own it you would prefer to never use it. YouTube works well so I guess that's a plus. Most of the apps I have gotten will not even load. I even got an Epub reader program (sorry no B&N reader available because you cannot use the Android Marketplace) but, it won't read DRM files which, have you noticed? B&N is making everything these days. I decided hey ok, you guys got me on this one, shame on me. Gave it to my 10 year old son, he thought it was cool, until he tried to use it. I should say tried to use it as a tablet, which it is not good for. Coaster, paper weight, door stop, weapon....you get the picture but, don't get the T301 tablet.

I bought this hoping for a nice Christmas present for my grandson. My daughter also bought one for the other grandson. Neither one ever worked in any way shape or form. By Christmas it was well over 30 days so couldn't return. Tried to find the company, but got no response from them either. Total waste of $160. Like we have that kind of money to throw away.
