Can you do a remote desktop connection with this device?

That would be cool, but impossible IMO.

I have had to settle for simply playing radios. I really like that, being able to listen to the news while in the shower.

One score I found in the thrift store, for $5, was a new-in-box "waterproof" CD player, radio combo device. Never have used the CD player, but I thought the concep was cool, a water resistant CD player.

.

I'd be surprised if connectbot (ssh) and vnc didn't work. I would not be surprised if rdp didn't work. So, probably, provided you know how to set up vnc and either don't mind an insecure connection, or also understand ssh tunneling.

If you want to buy from waltart, then why are you here? I would rather buy from woot! as waldart has a crappy electronics return policy and most are clueless about electronics. Woot has always handled my returns from all of my accounts, flawlessly. And I get squaretrade deals as well. And $25 for a 4gb card?? Right now saving $$ means more to most than NEW. And with a 8gb $9.99 card and 10.99 extended warranty, I still save 3 bucks and have a better warranty and bigger card, and do not have to leave my chair. WOOT! wins again. WOOT! WOOT! WOOT!

I had the Mico Cruz. I got my money back from Borders. Forget about playing any youtube videos. It just can't hack it. Loading for 2 min. To play 5 sec. of video, Not Good.

I plan on overclocking and adding some tricks to it. The dash is a crawl compared to this. And I don't care if it gets hit by a bolt of lightning, or dropped into the Suez Canal. For $75 bucks I don't expect a Samsung Galaxy 5 Wifi. Woot!

I've had one of these for about six months. It is almost unuseable with the terrible resistive screen. Hard to read and even harder to use for finger input.
That being said, where else can you get a tablet for this price?

I have one also and would like to use it as my bedside clock. Do you know if there is a way to turn off the display timeout so the clock is always on? I see an option to set the timeout to 30 mins., but not an "always on" option.

sdc100 wrote:Those who have read my previous reviews of the Sony Dash know that I am a huge advocate of the Cruz over any Chumby device -- especially at this price. For every Chumby app, you'll find many more Android app that do the same thing with many more features. Simply leave it on 24/7 (disable auto-off) and plugged in, and you'll have an Internet device that actually allows you to surf the web (unlike the Dash which as VERY limited web functionality). I recommend Dolphin HD, which rivals the power of many desktop browsers.

I place mine on the easel next to my bed. I have a great alarm clock app, Pandora, movie viewer, etc installed. I also use it to surf the web before sleeping and have even used it to word process in bed. And of course, it's also an eReader.

And unlike the Dash or Chumby, I can always unplugged it and use it room to room, running on battery. For example, I can bring recipes into the kitchen.

It's a great stocking stuffer, especially for younger children or older non-techie relatives. The only issue is that this is REFURBISHED, which may be inapprpriate for gifting. No, removing the Refurbed labels is not good enough because it'll show up as refurbed if they register the Cruz online.

I am not a Walmart shopper, but the holiday return policy gives you til 1/10/2012 on this e-reader,yes the deal here as you state is slightly better, but you can use it for some 55 plus days to kick the tires & take it back if you want.....I have been a wooter longer than you & have bought my fair share of refurbed electronics & have not been disappointed at all....woot is a changing landscape & it's original business model was 2nd to none, but as any business, it's their job to get your money & your job to spend it on the stuff they offer....1 thought-opinions are like azz-holes,everybodies got one...peace out.

I purchased the R101 a few months ago as basically a "distracto" toy for my 20 month old while we make very long coast to coast treks. I have video and a few games on as well as photos. It keeps her occupied for enough time for me to relax, regroup and enjoy the free beverage on a flight. Although I often hang my head in shame that my 20 mo old has her very own "tablet", this alone has made it worth it. Especially at the price.

If I was using it I think I would gnaw my arm off as it is very slow and does keep dropping the wi-fi. But she thinks it's the bee's knees.

this is my first woot post!!

I bought the 101 about a month ago off here for around the same price. It comes pre-installed with the android 2.0 OS. I ended up rooting the cruz and putting 2.2 on this device. This comes with android market , google maps, flash capable, etc. Everything that you have with your android cell phone. This is a great deal for the price. I also have all my fantasy football apps on here as well as Dolphin Browser (which plays flash). Very easy to root BTW, can message me if you need assistance.

Just bought two! Cant beat this price. And I refuse to stand in line on black Friday at Radio Shack to get one. I know it does not compare to my Galaxy Tab, but for this price, it is worth it for my 5 year old and my teen neice!
Thanks Woot, can't wait to get them.

Forget Angry Birds... or anything requiring Flash or ARM procs. You'll be using Amazon Market instead if the Google Market. Also, the straight plug on the adapter does not allow its use in the stand as intended. And no nifty ROMS yet (if ever.)
Nonetheless, it's sturdily built and the battery lasts really long.
Word on the street is that Radio Shack will be selling these on Black Friday for $50!

Eh, for 50 bucks new it might be a nice alternative to the Sony Dash. Can this thing handle streaming Netflix or are the results terrible?

Pros: The pills were there.
Cons: So was the tank.

Capacitive screen!!!????

Aw come one! I've owned several of these cheap Chinese tablets and what they call 'capacitive' and what you, I, and Apple call capacitive are not one and the same thing.

If this one has true, authentic, well-behaving capacitive, I'll be extremely surprised. If it really does, then it's doing much better than it's $200 big oriental brothers who most of the time lack such a luxury.

For starters it is an inferior model with Android 2.0 and not 2.2, that may matter to some people. Also, not sure if the Wally World model has the bad touchscreen everyone complains about.

Pros: The pills were there.
Cons: So was the tank.

The iPhone 4 is underclocked to 800 or even lower from the 1Ghz its proc is actually rated at, and it is plenty fast, operating a screen with more pixels than this Cruz. Although I somehow doubt the Cruz's software is quite as fine-tuned as iOS. It's really more about the hardware + software, not just clock rates.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS!!!
This tablet is crap and it is refurbished. It is not worth the price brand new.
this thing is incredibly slow, has a very poor screen, and has a hard time staying connected to wifi. Every time you swipe to change a page in an ebook you have to wait a few seconds for the page to load.
If you want a cheap tablet look for the cheap android ipad knock offs that go for $79-109, sure its a little more expensive but you will at least use it for more and a day before wanting to break it

I see a big market for kids that the manufacturers are not filling. WHY?
Not everyone wants to spend electronic megabucks on kids.

Yeah, this is the question. The Viewsonic 7" is usually just a bit more, $110 or so refurb, but at least in the ballpark, unlike a full price major tablet would be. It probably has more hacking support, so "less flawed" if you are will to work at it.

I have not read other comments yet, but trust me, you are not even getting a $69 value with this one. Just like an old Jerry Seinfeld episode, this is a glorified tip calculator. The unit does not even have the capacity to hold Angry Birds.

Not quite. Your link is for the R103 model, with the resistive touch screen. The Woot! model is the T301, which has a capacitive touch screen. Admittedly, they look identical, but be careful of the model numbers.

That said, the NewEgg deal would be perfect for those who prefer resistive touch screens.
