Well they are selling on ebay for $70 and Amazon for $50, why the heck not. If I don't like them, I can ebay them. I am in for 1.

I think this is the product:
Edit: It's not the same product, but you can get an idea of the night vision regardless

Does anyone know how far the light 'throws' on these night vision goggles? Is it closer to, say, 10 feet away, or can you see across a field when you're camping?

So, what generation of NV would these be comparable to?

None actually, though I could be over simplifying. These take advantage of the fact that ccd cameras can see infrared light. They use infrared illumination to "see" in the dark.

Hopefully you are able to see out of both eye pieces, I have the goggles from the COD MW2 pack and have no depth perception on the one eye setup. Half considering these for the step up.

Wouldn't make any sense to do it today, when everyone will be spending a whole lot of money on items that "seem" to be on sale at other sites.

Sorta ruins the fun though doesn't it? I would rather devote a 1 day period to switching between websites than have to devote 2 days to it.

Ah well. Hopefully this is a woot off in disguise

They might do the work for playing around. They have 2 cluster of IR LED in the front and camera records IR light just like security cameras. They are not a true night vision google, which amplifies received light.

Claim effective range is about 50 ft. You can boost it with Infrared flash light.

"Powered with award winning EyeClops night vision technology with dual illuminators that offer long-range and stealth modes"

Just to be clear. "Stealth Mode" are infrared LED's that are not in the visible spectrum. "Long Range" would be visible to people around you, but not very bright and would have a red hue.

I watched the official product demo video and the night vision appeared more grey than green to me. BTW, I recommend the video.

at this price, I doubt they are actually real night-vision. more like black'n'white CCD cameras missing their infrared filter, using IR LEDs to light the way.

that said, you can use remote controls as flashlights to see with, through the goggles.

This is the reason the Packers are 11-0. Aaron Rodgers is only super-human if he can find the James Jones in the dark. Actually....He has 4 other receivers he can find in the daylight without these. But still...this is why James Jones has a touchdown this year!

(James Jones touchdown jokes are so super inside Packer fan that this doesn't deserve a quality post.)

(Anyone willing to go to this extent to understand both football and geekary deserves a quality post.)

This is an excellent price when you consider that a toy version that does NOT record is $51.28 + $5.49 s/h at Amazon. That toy one is an actual binocular, but a poor one that you can probably live without. This records videos and stills at a little more than half the price.

Incredibly important question alert. Woot, woot.

Can you wear these? I know they're called "goggles" and there *appears* to be a headstrap, but it's tiny. PLUS, all of the pictures show dudes holding them.

BUT...at the end of the video Druzzle Do'raden (Gatzby) was rockin' 'em goggle style.

Goggles no 'nocks?

Thanks for the video woot, just watched it and realized there would be no improvement in depth perception. I'll just have to wait for a military surplus sale I guess.

Once upon a time, night vision technology was highly classified by our military. Then one day in the late 90's a defense contractor decided it would be a good idea to allow foreign nationals to work on the classified night vision products, as well as export those products to countries such as China, Singapore, and the UK. In 2007, after pleading guilty to 2 felony counts, that defense contractor received a $100M fine for doing this, and today, we have night vision available (produced at low cost by Chinese companies) for the general public to purchase.

I've got an older pair of EyeClops goggles, which I'd been meaning to dismantle and mount a camera in... so these arrive just in time :-)

Don't forget that these are particularly useful for diagnosing infrared remotes and motion sensors and the like - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RqT0X5eYPE shows a Roomba, through an EyeClops, you can see the various range sensors (so you can tell if one of the wall-following sensors needs replacement, if it's dim or absent.) The trick is to cover the emitters on the EyeClops itself, so they don't wash out the light emitted from the gadget you're looking at.

(In for two.)

This isn't REAL night vision. It is infrared illumination which is spotty at best. This works best when the victim, I mean subject, is ten feet in front of the viewer. I know it says 50 feet, but that is PR-speak for "works ok at 10 feet and you MIGHT get an image at 50 feet."
