I love android heck, I'm running Ice Cream Sandwich on my Samsung Fascinate as I type this, but when it comes to tablets I still go with iPad. There just aren't enough tablet focused apps in the Android Market. An Android tab with check e-mail, surf the web and do documents and such just as well but when I want cool apps for my daughter to play with it's just lacking in the quality dept. Hopefully this will change in the future but for now I'll stick with the iPad 2. Remember this is coming from a big Android fan.

Woot sold the 32GB model on 11/10/11 for only $10 more ($329).

Just 19 days ago I got the 32Gb Xoom for $10 more from woot. Only 2 issues is I can't connect to a citrix network with work due to no IE browser app for it. Micro SD card still has issues with Android 3.2, Xooms lock up if you have one installed and I could not get mine to actually see it. Other than that I love it.

I don't know if this is such a good deal. I bought a Motorola XOOM from Woot 3 weeks ago for the same price and it had 32GB. I love that thing.

marziah wrote:Full disclosure: I got a review unit from Samsung because I wrote a book on Android tablets.

That said, this is my favorite full-sized Android tablet. It's thinner and lighter than an iPad, and it's got a similar flat charger that also acts as a USB connector. It's light enough to hold in one hand while you're reading eBooks and big enough to play movies nicely. The Xoom is just so big, heavy, and brick-like compared to this.

I don't believe it's thinner than the ipad2..,

I bought one of these from a similar site for $350 a couple of months ago. Just after my laptop had died and I won an iPad2 from my bank. I figured since I had both on hand, I would test drive both for a month or two and see what happened and sell whichever one I liked less and would still be breaking even on the deal. I liked the iPad a lot, but I kept my Galaxy Tab.

The Galaxy Tab has a better screen with higher resolution and a better camera. It's also thinner and lighter which becomes important when you are going to be holding it for hours watching movies, it plays widescreen videos without huge black bars & I can even bittorrent things right to it and watch them right away, no need to mess around with iTunes or some similarly awful software. Generally, it's more like a computer than the iPad with a lot more freedom. Also, as a bonus, if you already have an Android phone, the vast majority of apps you have paid for already will be optimized on your tablet. Unlike my experience on iPad where more apps that I had previously purchased for my old iPhone only had more expensive tablet only versions (aka they want me to pay again for the same app).

The Galaxy Tab is not perfect: battery life is not quite as good as iPad but I still get many hours of use out of a charge (it's never been a big issue for me), many android tablet apps are not as polished as the iPad counterparts (the iPad twitter app is one thing that I truly miss). But, normal apps scale to fill the screen better than on iPad in my experience, and the number of honeycomb/ice cream sandwich tablet optimized apps grows every day. The polish will come. The basics are there and they work well.

Overall, after a head to head long term test with the competition, I kept coming back to the Samsung and at almost $200 less, it's a no brainer.

The transformer is still amazing at 399, so why would I go for a refurb tab to save only $80.00? that is my reality.

I have tried to look up nuko's website, or number, or even reviews to see if they would be a company that would acually back up the product. I cannot find anything on Nuko. I found a very sparse website: nukousa.com, but im not sure this is it... Can anyone shed some light?

TOTALLY agree! See the "write us" section because my personal experience is that Woot - like all good vendors - want happy customers. I have a black "better than" color and recommended Woot to evertyone I know because of the GOOD customer service Woot offers! If there is a defective new or refurbed product - TALK to them!

NO WAY! It will probably have a "refurbished" indicator somewhere on back - but my family knows of my good experiences with Woot and appreciate these as gifts. After review (already ordered and received 2 Motorola Xooms), I'll be in for 3 (more) Christmas presents.

Wow, that was hard! back and forth on the decision since seeing this in the early a.m.!!!! In for two!!

Niece was looking at a kindle or nook with e-ink. Though the nook color was nice "but expensive" She is soooo cute, doesn't want to spend too much money etc!

Once I load up some apps this should be awesome for her!

Second one… dunno, but at this price, how could i just buy one! :-))
Damn you woot!

Covers usb, hdmi and charging etc...

Can you make free phone calls on this when you are on Wifi? I know you could do Skype or something but I am wondering if you can use this as a phone (using bluetooth or wired headset) on wifi. Maybe a more of a question of 'is there an app for that', but is someone doing this?

It's hidden somewhere, but don't look in the product description. That's EXACTLY what these woot! guys would want you to do...and we're not gonna give them the satisfaction.

No memory card slot. But you can, supposedly, hook up a USB Card Reader and add a Card that way. Not as slick. But doable.

Typical Refurbished Warranty is 90 Days. But other websites state "This is up to the Refurbisher or Supplier." I have not found it listed or mentioned here.

The Galaxy tab is probably the best android tablet you can get today, and the price is very good.... I say that as I am typing this out on a Asus Transformer. Thinner, lighter and without the hideous back cover... I am holding out for the Transformer Prime myself though.... I already have a dual core android 3.2 tablet..

It would have been nice if the Galaxy could take a micro card- that's about the only negative.

Dang! There it goes, again! My Credit Card just leapt out of my wallet and ordered one of these on it's own.

No... really!

Thanks for the excellent report/comparison. I just have to take issue with the statement above - at 6% lighter (36g) and less than 3% thinner (.2mm), I doubt adult human would notice a difference holding them. Also, since most people get some kind of case for their tablets/pads, the variation in case thicknesses and weights is a far greater factor.

Thx
