I would say it is a plus but then when the heck do I do something on my TV but power and volume.

Between satellite and cable receivers I haven't actually turned a channel on my TV in almost a decade. (regularly I mean)

More than likely, no it won't get an OFFICIAL update to ICS. But there's a decent chance that it'll get some sort of hacker love. XDA Developers is a pretty good place to go.

This is a kind of a crazy year for holiday sales ... if hubby is thinking he needs a Xoom-level product, you might want to see what comes down even more in price.

According to this page on the Visio support site Adobe Flash 10.1 is preinstalled
http://vizio.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/208

As for ICS 4.0 since this device doesn't have a dual core processor, I am not hopeful for an upgrade. Over on AndroidTablets.Net this thread http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/vizio-tablets/27932-do-we-know-if-ics-coming-us-2.html quotes a Vizo rep stating "We have not been given information on the next Android update to our tablet, I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

Where did I put my my quill and inkpot?

Thanks for the help, and also as to the hacker love. I'm honestly wondering if it could be updated via the cyanogenmod. I don't know though, guess I can look into that.

A kind of funny but slightly mean thing to do when something won't be delivered in time for Christmas is to give the person some kind of joke fake-out gift and act like they are not going to get the real item and then give them a Christmas card with some kind of paper documentation (e.g. Shipping confirmation) that they will actually be getting it later.

The deals on the Xoom and other tablets will only get better as more tablets come out, especially the Xoom 2, which was just released a few weeks ago.

Just spend the extra $35 and get a brand new Kindle Fire. Better quality and you can flash a custom ROM like Cyanogen to make an awesome tablet.

I did it with my Nook Color, which was awesome both because it's a good tablet and it was fun getting it to work. Messing with Android devices can be pretty fun.

Update Edit: The answer to my question is, NO.

I am looking for an answer, but if anyone knows I would appreciate it.

Does the keyboard still function while in remote mode? In other words can this tablet be used as a wireless keyboard for TVs with 'smart' features?

Trying to use native television youtube support is a chore. If this tablet functions as a keyboard in remote mode then I just found a nice holiday present.

First, they have to have the knowledge to be able to do this. Flashing has become much easier with most devices, but it still requires more computer knowledge than many tablet consumers have.

Second, the Kindle Fire doesn't have front facing camera for Skype (doesn't have a camera at all). Many tablet users that I know use their tablet to chat with their friends and relatives via Skype, especially my older and less computer literate customers.

Finally out of box this one has easy access to google apps and marketplace, the Kindle Fire doesn't.

That being said, I am buying two Kindle Fire's for relatives this Christmas as it is a great tablet especially when coupled with Amazon Prime. Both of these tablets have their distinct strengths and weaknesses and one may be much better than the other depending on the features needed.

Told my fiance about it and she informed me she bought me one for Christmas...!

Hopefully I can get in contact with woot and cancel this.

Sorry woot!

Also: She should have at least told me this before I got carpal tunnel from hitting F5 trying to get a touchpad...haha

They are likely drop shipping from the factory, so it takes longer to process the order before it is shipped, then they are using the infamous 'smartpost' on top of that, so fedex delivers to usps and it takes more time. I wouldn't be surprised if many (maybe most) get their tablets by Christmas, but woot! doesn't want to make that guarantee and is just playing it safe.

If I didn't have to pay $13.20 in tax this would be a better deal for me, but even after TAXSUCKS coupon code to wave the shipping it ends up being $173.19, and for a few bucks more I can get it new at Walmart with full 1 year warranty and easier exchange if it breaks (a customer of mine just bought one last week, they show in in stores randomly for $198.00 even though they are not listed on their web page).

I don't believe there is any way to call up the keyboard while in the remote app. It is really just that...an app that turns the touch screen into a pseudo-remote. I just returned mine to Costco this weekend. Loved it much more than I thought I would, but I picked up the Galaxy 10.1 last week on Woot becuase it weighed the same as the Vizio and I wanted the larger screen. I miss Hulu which plays on the Vizio and not the Galaxy (chock one up for 2.3 vs. 3.1). This is actually quite a nice device. Upside over Fire is that you get access to both Amazon and Google's markets.

You don't need a class 10 card unless you are actively recording lots of extremely hi-def video. If you are just reading info from the card, e.g. playing videos stored on it, then you don't really need anything above a class 4. Personally, I think it's more important to have a more reliable card than a higher class one, in the interests of data integrity as generic card are lower quality and more likely to crap out on you.

Go for a good quality, class 4, name brand card with lots of good reviews and very few failures and DOA's, like Sandisk, Kingston, or Transcend.

I'm curious with the IR blaster on it, has anyone made an app , for it that could work similar to TV-B-Gone and shut off TV's or other electronics or any other apps that could work with the IR, outside of the remote app

Fairly certain those would all be Toshiba anyway. Only one I'm not 100% on is Transcend.

This computerworld site seems pretty informative on who is getting ICS or not.

Looks like the people who bought the Sprint HTC View from "The Other Daily Deal Site" for $230 are going to be stuck with gingerbread.

Who knows maybe HTC will get the source code from google this time.

Good to know.

And again, no one is going to need a high class card for a tablet like this, so spend the extra money you would have wasted on increasing class on a better brand and/or higher capacity.

The View is supposed to get Honeycomb before year's end, so at least it will be more of a full tablet than many other tablets running phone versions of Android.

Nice! I wonder if that will mess with the HTC Sense technology too much or not.

I should ask someone rich enough who bought the $80 stylus!
