Yes the Hero 2 fit this housing. And the hero 2 isn't available naked yet.

It is such a wide angle lens that it doesn't need a steadicam mount, but you need to be pretty close to your subject.

Got mine.

These will sell out. Too cool to pass up.

Was a toss-up between this or Tachyon Micro HD for $140. Most of the reviewers favored the goPro.

Go see Puss'n'boots...

Just kidding. Funny idea.

I picked one up. The gap between this and the Hero2 wasn't big enough to overcome the insane deal on this. If I get it in time, maybe I'll hide it in the chimney somewhere and get to the bottom of this whole "Santa Claus" thing once and for all.

You can disregard the above...I really don't know what I'm talking about.

My dad uses this while he rides track days. Really good visual when he mounts it properly. He has not attached it to his helmet but on the bike itself, near the gas cap on his Honda CBR. Audio is mostly his bike's engine so I can't really attest to that. We have also used it on motocross trails. It captures audio pretty well there, including people's voices. If you want a neat, HD toy to capture video of you doing something along those lines, this is a great product.

I've been using GoPros since the original model and must say these things are excellent for what they are designed to do...produce good quality video in less-than-ideal environments. I've used mine suctioned to various panels of my car during spirited driving and track events, to document the passage of a hurricane over my house, to capture those family moments at the water parks and beaches with my kids, and even strapped to my dog as she runs around playing fetch and dock jumping. Friends have borrowed it to document downhill longboarding adventures, marching band performances (as a band member...not a bystander), etc.

It's NOT a full-feature video camera with a thousand different settings. This is a no-nonsense marvel designed to do one thing and do it very well. At this price, it's a great deal.

GoPro Hero vs GoPro Hero 2?

What's the difference? I'm trying to decide whether or not to spend the extra $ on the 2.0 version.

This camera is simply amazing! My husband and I just went to Hawaii and we brought the newest version of this camera for underwater shots. I have to say, we are SO impressed. We're even tempted to buy this one as a second camera... we might...

If you're going to risk your life on camera, you should buy the best camera you can afford.

This thing can go 60 meters underwater. Excellence for scuba diving.
Also great for 3D; you can rent a second one + 3D housing at a camera outlet.

I've used a GoPro Hero for kayaking, hiking, cycling, and documenting road trips, and I sell it as part of my work. It really is a fun camera. One of the cool features is the stop action feel of taking one photo every few seconds (note: the Hero2 has 11MP vs. 5MP of the original Hero).

In regards to some of the questions/comments in this forum:
- images appear incredibly stabilized. Amazingly so.
- fish eye: this issue is lessened when filming in the 1080 mode (as to opposed to 960 or below) as it reduces the wide angle from 170degrees to 124degrees. (note: the new Hero2 can film at 170degrees in 1080)
- battery life: I can get just about 2.5 hrs of life on a battery (without the bacpac; I haven't done anything more than simply play around with the bacpac - it's pretty cool, though, and will work on both Hero1 and Hero2)
- LCD screen: as already mentioned, there is no "screen" included with any GoPro, just a digital reading of the camera settings.

Comments about this camera:
- many people have complained about its underwater filming capabilities. Apparently GoPro did not design the housing to give undistorted images while underwater. Alternative housings can be bought for about $80 to adjust for this.
- In my opinion, the most readily useful upgrade on the Hero2 is the ability to quickly see if the camera is on or not (there are indicator lights on all sides of the Hero2). On the original Hero the "on" light is next to the lens, meaning that if you want to check if it's actually filming, then you WILL be filmed because the wide-angle is so extreme. I don't like having to edit out the occasions where I'm checking to see if the camera is on.
- It's easy to buy all kinds of mounts to attach this puppy to whatever you want.
- Learning the settings of this camera is a bit of a high learning curve. Check out the online manual to see how tedious it can be. If you simply leave it on 1080 and shoot video the whole time, then it's no problem. But if you want to do other things (like taking single photos every few seconds or minutes), then check out the manual to see if you want to deal with the hassle.

This is a super fantastic deal. If you think you might want this and you have an extra $135, then jump on it - I doubt you'll be disappointed!

Incidentally, I, too, have thought about attaching it to my cat! She'd hate it, but even the footage of her trying to remove it would be golden :-)

I used to wonder if the video was really as good as it seems on the web; then I started noticing them getting used on broadcast television in shows like Wipeout (as a crash cam worn on lifevests) and on The Amazing Race (as mounted minicams) when the Race finally went HD this year. I don't know if they were using the original Hero like this or the Hero 2 but the video quality was astonishingly good.

ckeilah wrote:I use mine for shallow diving, sailing, mt.biking... but they EAT batteries! I get about 15min tops before I have to replace the batteries, and that's not so wise in many locations (you have to remove the non-waterproof camera from the waterproof housing to replace the batteries). So, aside from only being able to shoot 15min of video, and having no feedback from the camera when it craps out, I like it. Just expect to push *record* a dozen times during the day, and when you get home to have no videos after the first three. :-/

I get just over 2 hours of battery power. Enough for 2x 60 min dives underwater. Are you using the LCD BacPac? - I heard that sucks power.

I use the GoPro HD Hero for SCUBA diving.

A few underwater tips:

As an alternative to buying a flat lens housing for $80 (needed for underwater diving), you can buy a flat lens for $43 and replace the original lens. It is simple to do.

You will also want to buy a lens filter - this makes an amazing difference.

I love this camera and at this price, it looks like I'll have a 2nd one for kicks and giggles.
