Amazon Link - Saving $120 seems like a good idea. I need an amazon tablet for dev too...

It seems like Woot sells these every other day, though... and a lot of times it's a better deal than this.

Looks like their current models start at $379 MSRP... seen on their site.

Meaning 290 here is great.

Also... is this Toshiba week? Any good Toshiba TVs this week? Please?

I don't see any GPS support but still looks like a good price for a Honeycomb tab.

If I had wanted a Wi-Fi only tablet, this would've been my choice. Also glad I didn't though, as I would've bought it at a higher price than this! Definitely the best price I've seen for a Thrive all season.

It's supposed to have built in GPS.

Great deal. Would think this one will probably get the ICS update eventually too. Maybe someday when I feel like I have money to spend Woot will have an Android tablet deal, now they just keep taunting me with deals while I'm broke...

Using one to type this message right now. Video camera is good, speed is nice. Very responsive touch. I use it to watch Netflix (DS9) for the most part, but even my wife has watched a few movies on it.

Killer feature foe me is the SD card slot. Take the card right out of my camera and can view and edit right away. Plugged in a USB mouse and it just works. Great for drawing programs and Evernote. With the right Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, it could be a pretty good laptop replacement.

If I had a phone with wifi tethering, I'd be golden.

I paid the ssame price as this woo on black Friday for a 8 gig model, but haven,t felt limited by space yet. A 16 gig model will go a long way.

Only thing I might complain about is the thickness. It's not as sexy as an I pad, but I think it's way more functional.

I can verify GPS. Best to have offline maps with it, though.

Ouch, Woot. Would much rather have this than the DOA Vizio tab I got last week. Hoping Vizio support gets their stuff together. Any chance I could get a refund on that one, ship it back to you and buy this one???

The Thrive is a decent devics with lots of ports, a good screen, and performance comparable to the Samsung, Motorola and other leading tabs, but they are much thicker than most other Android tablets (and of course the iPad). If you can get to a retail store like Best Buy to feel the difference before you buy it here that may help you make your decision.

I own one of these and the GPS works great. A lot better than a Viewsonic GTab for example.

Unlike almost all other tablets the battery is user replaceable. Also has full size SD slot, full size USB, and full size HDMI. Comes in at 1.68 lbs....not that much more than the Ipad at 1.5 lbs. Thicker but worth it for all those full sized expansion slots.

I have one of these and it is great. I use it to look at Powerpoints and pdfs for medical school. It is way better than carrying around a ton of books. The full size hdmi port is awesome. It projects to the tv really well. I've got a 32 GB sd card in mine cause the 16gb is a little bit small. It even recognizes my usb game controller so i can play all sorts of n64 and playstation emulated games on it.

I own one of these ... it's not for everybody, and it has its issues. We also have a XOOM in our house, so I do have something to compare it to.

On the up side you get a removable battery along with full-size ports (incl. HDMI) and SD card slot. This is the main reason I bought it (the other being a great price via a retailer coupon), because I can pop the card out of my DSLR and put it right into the tablet and review my photos and video. I can also connect it to my HDTV without buying a special cable.

On the down side. You get:

Bloatware. Kaspersky antivirus (or malware as I'm wont to call it), along with games, and other apps that can't be removed. You can't even get rid of the registration app after you register your device. You also get the Toshiba App Market, where just about everything is a subscription vs. one-time purchase.

Crippled Android Market. It doesn't support Google Music purchases, even though the tablet was recently updated to Honeycomb 3.2. Toshiba has to update the Market to support Music, but hasn't said when this will happen. App updates frequently hang or crash and don't function as smoothly as I've seen w/other Android phones or tablets.

Crippled Wi-Fi. Cannot connect to Ad-Hoc Wi-Fi. This means you can't tether your Thrive to your Android phone or other devices that support Ad-hoc connections. Also blue-tooth tethering is no dice as well. So much for taking this thing with you in the car.

And while just about everyone else has promised Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) for their dual-core tablets, Toshiba has been tight-lipped about this. If ICS is a big deal for you, I'd be cautious about going with Toshiba.

Good deal here! Was considering buying at Staples for $349 new:

http://www.staples.com/Toshiba-Thrive-101-16GB-WiFi/product_321952

Or at Best Buy for $399 + 50 gift card (don't know if they'd match Staples price and still offer the gift card):

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Toshiba+-+Thrive+Tablet+with+16GB+Hard+Drive+-+Black+Tie/2769576.p?id=1218349687286&skuId=2769576&st=toshiba%20thrive&cp=1&lp=1

$289 for a refurb that arrives by X-mas, might be the way to go!

I'm sure by this time next year I will be looking for a replacement when the prices drop, but I love my HP Touchpad.

Can you load up Google Sky Maps and tell me about the gyroscopic/accelerometer support? The orientation should track perfectly (when you tilt or move the tablet, the horizon line should adjust accordingly, for example) I've heard of problems with some of the senors in the Thrives.

Wish the price was just a bit better for a refurb. Groupon had them new with a 1 year warranty for $299 + 10 s/h a month or 2 ago.

This gained Honorable Mention this week in Lifehacker's Hive Five feature listing readers' favorite Android tablets, which means it came in sixth. But considering Lifehacker's readers were dumb enough to consider the HP Touchpad an Android tablet, that means this is the fifth-best Android tablet out there.

(Yes, I know. There's also a CyanogenMod ROM for the iPad. Is the iPad an Android tablet? Then neither is the Touchpad.)

I've had a Thrive for months, best tablet IMO and this is a cheap price. I paid $429 for my 16 gig Thrive new. You can use thumb drives, external USB hard drives, SD cards, etc. Plus the battery is easy to replace by the user for $80. It only takes an hour to charge, it has a laptop style charging cord. It is thick, but the back is rubberized for good grip.

I'm connected to an ad-hoc network with my thrive.

I love this tab. I've used nearly all the major players in tablets, and I would absolutely take this over the rest. Full size ports are a god-send. The thing flies, and it will get ICS. Toshiba just released a smaller thrive, they're not going to halt support.

At 289, it's the best you can buy.

People talk about the thickness, but to me it's a benefit. It feels solid in the hand, but not so weighty that it's uncomfortable.

User replaceable battery can't be overlooked...extras are reasonably priced and well worth it. (Normal battery life is just fine, but if you're on the go all day like me, it's helpful).

The one thing I think people overlook is the rubberized backing. Solid, tactile feel. You really do not need a case for this, just a screen protector maybe. If you beat up the back, you can replace it (also can simply customized, Toshiba makes various colors). The camera cover for the lens is also a part of the back, so if something happens and it gets scratched, bam...new lens cover.

I can vouch for this. I have sky maps and I believe it works (I'm not an astronomer, but I move the tab and it moves with the sky)

Another VERY nice feature is the orientation lock... meaning by throwing a switch, you can disable the automatic orientation switching (via gravity) to turn pictures, read while lying down, etc.

Didn't know it had this until a sales rep showed me. Haven't seen another tablet with this feature...

It says that it supports h.264 and mp4. But does anyone know if this can playback avchd video recorded by a camcorder or canon dslr .mov files?

I had the 8 GB version that BB sold for a good deal on Black Friday, but ended up returning it when I found a Lenovo K1 Ideapad 32 GB for only $20.00 more last week. The features and size of the Thrive were great, the full size ports for HDMI and USB along with the full size SD slot were perfect, and I could even run a 1 TB portable hard drive from the USB slot, but the 8 GB on board memory was just not enough because you cannot install apps to the SD Card.

That being said, anybody expecting iPad simplicity from an Android device may be a bit disappointed. Everything on iPad really does "Just Work" whereas on the Android devices, I find App compatibility issues for the different devices incredibly frustrating although I am finding out you don't need Apps on Android where you might on the iPad. HBO GO for instance, needs an App to work on the iPad but on the Android tablet I can just log into the regular website and it works

For this price, I say if you are interested in the Android platform and looking for a tablet...Go for it.

I've had one of these for several months. Of the several tablets I've had in my hands, this one leaves them in the dust. Ports, user replaceable battery, all the other cool stuff you could want. This is a great deal, grab it.

Playbook has it, and I think the TouchPad does too, but cannot recall nor want to walk over to my other room to confirm.
