What kind of warranty will this "refurbished" tablet have? And has anyone had any experience with something that has been "refurbished" by Toshiba?

For the fellow with the Vizio...my Vizio tab came DOA. Since we knew Woot had no return policy, I called Vizio. They are sending me another tab (on their dime) and I will return the one I bought from Woot (also on their dime).

Perhaps call Vizio and see what they can do for you.

I'm always cheaper when my items aren't in stock too.

  • 3 B*O*C's
  • 2 Leak Frogs
  • 3 Screaming monkeys v2 (green)
  • bunch of other stuff that I just bought while waiting for these listed items

Actually, it was available for $239 on last Thursday at Dailysteal website

I have the 32g Thrive and I love it. Word of advise though..if you get it do not upgrade to 3.2 OS. Google disabled the write privileges to any SD card in 3.2. I've left min at 3.1 and I'm hoping ICS will fix the SD card issue. Otherwise this is a great Tablet, I'm using it all the time.

Wife has owned one for about 6 months now. As tablets go, one of the best. The biggest drawbacks is its form-factor. If your priority is style in a tablet then this is not your deal.

If you want the functionality of a netbook but in a tablet form, this is manna from heaven. I skype all the time with my wife and it is very good. The camera, processor, screen, is all excellent.

The many ports also opens it up for lots of accessories. There is a hardware keyboard that plugs into it for more extended use.

I've been price shopping the 32GB version for the last week or so, and best I could get it down to was around $510 total.

Saw this 16GB deal pop up today and considered heavily, to the point of having it queued up so I could hit the "Buy It" to finalize the order at ~$310 with tax (I'm in NY and used "TAXSUCKS" to get free shipping). I then doubled checked a few spots just to be sure, as I was hesitant about the refurb aspect.

I've now got a NEW 16GB Thrive in my cart at Sears for a total of $371.86 with tax, using the free shipping by xmas coupon REALJOY. I also use ebates for SEARS purchases, which will return another ~$21 to me in February. The purchase will also go toward my rewards program there.

My final price, delivered by xmas, for a NEW 16GB Thrive will be $350.92. To me, it is worth $40 to have the full 1 yr warranty, a 30 day return window and know I am giving my wife a "new" present. Never been much of a refurb guy, I guess!

Also, there's a chance you can pick it up if you have a Sears store local to you that carries them in stock. Mine showed one in stock earlier today, but has since sold it (or adjusted inventory).

My wife and I have had two of these Tablets for almost 2 months now and we rarely use our desktop anymore....its fantastic...great computer, great screen, great features....all around outstanding Tablet...and yes, if you are just getting into the Tablet type computers, then this will be good for you...it's one of the top of the line with simplistic ease of use, graphics, and power....

I've seen a brand new 8GB Toshiba Thrive on-sale during this holiday season for $199. I wish I bought it when I saw it but I didn't realize how good of a deal that was.

Under Honeycomb, it can be switched from the status bar and the display settings menu. Under Froyo, it can be switched from the settings menu (and is usually the first thing I disable the second I flash my tablets).

Sorry folks... I should go back and delete or edit my initial comment. My apologies for the confusion. I meant that there is an actual SWITCH on the side for it. The salesman praised it as a selling point to me - said it was unique and none of the others I was looking at had a simple switch. In my initial comment, I probably should have just pointed it out (as it wasn't listed in the description) and dropped the part where I said I thought there were few others with this feature (switch that is).

I don't have much experience with tablets, as this would be our first, and from what I'm reading, have found out that you can do it on most if not all tablets... with some navigating. A switch is much easier especially for newbie tablet wannabes like us!

Thanks to all for the pointers though!

You will not be able to use HBO GO as of present as HBO GO currently only supports devices with IMEI numbers (Aka: Non-Wifi Only tablets and devices).

Where do you get this information? The HBOGO site states mobile requirements as,

For Android smartphones, HBO GO requires Android version 2.1 - 2.3. The HBO GO App does not support Android 3.0 and higher (Honeycomb), which is the operating system that runs most Android tablets. Some Android devices running version 2.1 - 2.3 are not supported, including Motorola Flipout, Motorola CLIQ XT, Motorola DROID, LG Ally, LG Apex, LG Axis, HTC myTouch 3G, HTC Droid Eris, HTC Hero, T-Mobile G1, Motorola CLIQ, Motorola Backflip and eLocity A7.

The end result is the same, no HBO GO, but the reason is different: unsupported OS version, not lack of IMEI.

The image says it will ship by Christmas, but my order says:
".....If your order doesn't change to "shipped" within 5 business days, check in our community forums for news of any delay, post there, and/or e-mail our service department at service@woot.com.

Again, your order will typically ship within 5 business days."

Hope it makes it!

Been dyeing for an android tablet ever since I got my Atrix phone. I have a B&N color Nook but that just made me want more. I have been shopping around for months and this is by far the best deal I have seen. I can't wait to get it, thank you hubby for the great Christmas gift.

Wait.. what?

Why would they do that?

What good is an SD if you can't write to it?

This doesn't make sense to me :-/

I have one of these. Paid $330 "on sale" from Amazon a few weeks back. This is an excellent device.

Thickness is not an issue unless you have "little girl hands" (no offense little girls).
The Thrive is .62 inches thick
The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer is .51 (12.98 mm)
The Apple iPad is .34
The Motorola Xoom is .50

I "rooted" the Thrive the 1st day I received it and use a 32GB SD card, that I bought on Woot, with no issues. You can write to the SD card. You just need to do a little research (took me like 15 minutes to find the solution via Google).

Been reading all the comments.... I find it comical when people debate the weight of these tablets. Oh I cant hold something that's 12.8879377 grams heavier than this other one.

Come on man.... none of them weigh much at all.

The GPS on mine works great. It has a bunch of other sensors that work with other apps like a seismograph (I have several gas rigs next door, if you set the thrive on the floor and turn on one of these apps you can see how much they shake the house) there is a decibel meter app to measure sound, 100 GPS apps, Barcode scanner apps, and one I really dig is a PDF scanner app for the camera, it scans documents REALLY great.

You can watch netflix, not sure about Hulu. All other web media, I watch with no issues.

The glass is pretty tough, I'm not nice to mine and it hasnt gotten scratched yet.

I have an extra battery to swap out so both charged up will run far longer than I can use it in a day.

I had an iPad. It was thin but seemed to weigh far more than this thirve, and it was not easy to keep a hold of with normal sized man hands.

I had a nook color.... to small. Sold it.

U dunno what the deal is about the SD card, I'm updated and I read/write on mine all the time with no issues.

Google earth/maps and a bunch of other GPS dependent apps all work great on it.

I will however agree, if $50 more will buy you new w/ 1 year warranty and 30 days to take it back to a store..... grab it. it might save you a headache if you get a defective refurb.

It doesn't necessarily have to be the build quality. People will often return if they've tried to flash a rom unsuccessfully. Another reason is if they want to flash, but have already updated through toshiba. They will often return and purchase the build that they need to flash. Probably going through quality control they can not be sold as new. Just a thought on returns.

For Hulu...use flash browser. It's in the market.

On ALL Honeycomb tablets-

Tap the time once.
Tap the time in the big box that appears once.

You can now turn the auto rotate, the wifi, airplane mode, brightness, notifications (whew!)

ON OR OFF with one tap.

------------------------------------

I like the idea of spare batteries, and I like the rubber back on this.

However, I have something better (but more expensive)
Asus Transformer Tablet + optional keyboard (+battery!) dock

-Folds up like a netbook. (protects the screen!)
-Battery charges the tablet.
-USB ports.
-Keyboard.
-Tablet itself is thin.
-Use the keyboard dock to hold it on a table, lap, or whatever for VIDEOCHAT instead of trying to hold the tablet or buy a case to prop it up with...

In the update, fastboot is removed at the request of google to protect drm. Removing flashboot also eliminates the ability to install custom roms as the new version can not boot into recovery. I've not read that it effects sd storage.
