Funfact: This is the MOST EXPENSIVE Woot! has sold all year. Possibly ever.

(Funfact: I don't *actually* know that's true.)

I wish I could afford this to replace my g5 iMac, it's just not enough of a discount to warrant getting it - sadly that's just how it goes with Macs.. they're just never really discounted or on sale.

It's only 50$ cheaper from the education store (vs the regular stores $150 off).

All Macs can run Windows, so it's like you're getting two computers for the price of one here. Set up Boot Camp for a dual-booting computer or use any of the virtual OS programs like Parallels to have the two side-by-side.

Now if we could just get Santa to see this deal and have him put it under my tree I would be one happy camper. Might need to put up a tree first though. Wonder if those are on sale yet?

I will never understand why people will shell out that kind of money simply because it has a fruit logo on it. I mean, Dell ACER Alienware are all substantially better designed, more user friendly and a fraction of the cost (well not Alienware but its a "specialty" computer). I just don't understand the raving lunatics that have to have every single fruit logo product they produce and every single upgrade they release even if they only just bought the other one 6 months ago... What am I missing?

I game, so I use Alienware. For my school work I use a Dell. I've had absolutely zero issues with either. Let the fruit logo zombies attack me now...

Unless of course the Mayan calendar was correct and the world ends on 12/21/12. But on the other hand, until then you won't have all the hassles of a Windows machine.

Something else to think about - buy through Apple, in many states you would pay sales tax. Buy through Woot, in many states you probably won't pay sales tax (even if you're like me and supposed to be tracking purchases and writing it in on your tax form). I love my Mac (and I was a die-hard PC girl for years)!

Of course there's a right click on the Magic Mouse. It's just that Apple calls it a "secondary" click.

I own this exact iMac, bought it about a month and a half ago.

If you're in the market for one of these, it really is great. I consider this to be one of the few products Apple sells that doesn't seem ridiculously pricey.

It has a really nice screen, though it's glossy, if people don't prefer that. The graphics card is good enough, but not better than a dedicated gaming card. Still, I've been playing the Diablo 3 beta without any problems, though I had to turn the detail settings a LITTLE bit.

I personally think the Magic Mouse is terrible. I immediately plugged in a Logitech mouse, figured out how to disable mouse acceleration and haven't looked back.

I bought an additional 8GB of RAM on Amazon for less than $60, for a total of 12GBs. Really easy to install.

The Magic Mouse does do left and right click, no problem. Mac Mice have been able to do right click since they introduced the "Mighty Mouse" years ago.

Obviously you never used a Mac. Yes you can right click, just like any other PC.

I'm not even joking that this is exactly the same computer I ordered yesterday for $25 more through my University, which also meant $104 in taxes. And I would have to carry it home on the bus.
Returning that computer unopened, right at the store and saving $130 on something I was already buying just absolutely made my weekend.

PatentDude wrote:Looks like it's about $120 off from MacMall's price.

And it's only $30 more than a refurbished one from Apple, so it's a pretty decent deal for an iMac.

Might have to get one.

An Apple refurb is as good as a brand new one, really. You get the same 1 year warranty, it still qualifies for Apple Care, and they guarantee it. The only real difference is that you know someone else touched it before you, and the packaging you get has the word refurbished on it, which only matters when you go to re-sell it in years to come.

However, there is still the matter of sales tax. Anyone in a state with an Apple store will have to pay tax on their online purchase from Apple, making this still a deal over the Apple refurb store, since you end up saving about $70 if you have a 10% sales tax like I do.

Alienware IS Dell...
While they are nice machines, they are the PC equivalent of a MAC, as you can custom build a better computer for less.

Mac:

Pros:

-Very sleek and clean looking

-Never had any viruses or spyware yet and it's been over 4 months. (long time for a windows user haha)

-Lots of great built in programs such iMovie which is a REALLY good Windows Movie Maker and Garage Band which is very handy for me who makes movies

Cons:

-Harder to find programs and games for it

-Hardware you have to get through Apple most of the time and can't just go to Target and pick up a CD drive.

Actually yes you can, as long as the peripheral is USB, FireWire, or thunderbolt it should work. Including CD/DVD/BluRay drives.

I'm thinking about getting AppleCare for the Mini I bought last month, but I haven't needed a warranty for the previous 4 Macs I had. I'll probably end up getting it sometime next year.

Oh, and those 4 computers span almost 20 years. Not all of us get a new one every 6 months.

I would like to ad that Mac Rumors says "not to buy" that there is a new model soon. I believe the rumor is that it comes out when Ivy Bridge comes out (March-April). I want one, but I will wait for the updated one to spend over a grand.

It's cheaper at the Apple store. I'm not an Apple person but this $1019 deal looks like the exact same model, and the s/h is FREE.

For my money, I can get the same specs for a lot less with WIndows. And upgrading, i.e. replaceing the monitor, is much easier.

I'm not going to pretend there aren't people out there who buy Apple just because it's Apple. But keep in mind that for some of us, Macs are simply a professional necessity. Sometimes it's a little tiring hearing about how having a Mac makes you frivolous or image-conscious when what it really means is that you bought a tool that works well for the job you need to do rather than trying to convince your entire company/industry that they're using the wrong system.

I wooted the $2299 Olevia 65" TV back in 2008. So this is definitely not the most expensive.

I just bought an iMac this summer -- the 27" i7 with 16GB Ram, 256GB SSD drive, and 2TB drive. Love it, but spent more than 3 times as much as this one!

It's not like having two computers though, dual-booting takes up a large amount of RAM as well as a bit of processing power. Yes, it comes with 4 Gigs of RAM and a Quad Core (2.5 GHz each), but I think it's about 1 Gig to run OS X and probably another Gig to run Boot Camp (I don't use Mac's). Having two computers is different. Which you can buy two computers at that price, one for simple office related things and the other a mid to high level gaming rig.

As some who JUST bought an iMac on Monday for myself for Christmas I have to say woot I'm a bit bummed out this wasn't offered oh a week ago.

I actually got the next one up but refurbed:

However, if you are in the market for a new iMac this is truly a great deal and I recommend pulling the trigger.

Damn you woot, now I have to see if I can ruin Christmas and return the refurb.

The advantage of buying the iMac here is no sales tax, unlike the online Apple store which charges sales tax in states where they have brick and mortar stores.

That is wrong, dual booting is dual booting. The only time when the 2 OS's share the memory or processing power is when you use them at the same time such as Parallels or VMWare. Boot camp will use all system resources since it is 1 OS at a time.

You'll have to rip out the woefully underpowered power supply and change out the video to run anything at all.

Sorry... I'm required to post that for all computers.

I'll take a PC for $600 less, thanks.
