Dermestid beetle? Or hum-bug? Nah, Ben loves the holiday season as much as anybody, but just because you're moved by the Christmas spirit, that doesn't give you license to inflict lifelong hearing damage on a newborn baby. How did a song about mistreating a helpless infant get so popular, anyway?

I prefer the version in the podcast from 2008.

You have no gift to bring? Well, how about the gift of not afflicting an innocent child with life long sensory neural hearing loss.

Also the fire safety song from Christmas Eve that year was pretty hilarious too.

The little drummer boy came with the kings/magi/wise men. This means that he would not have been drumming for a new born. The arrival of the caravan was probably not until 18-24 months after the birth.

Well, the lyrics explicitly say he went "a new born king to see," and that "the ox and lamb kept time," so it would seem this recital took place mangerside -- unless you're calling the little drummer boy a LIAR.

Keep up the good work, Ben. You just keep picking those bones and I'll split these hairs for you.

Now where is my extra sharp razor blade and lighted magnifying glass...?

I tried your link, but the video isn't work for me. I only get audio. What is this? The golden age of radio? Pffft... I prefer video with my audio.

Patton Oswalt has a similar line of thought (He start in on it around 1:30 if you're at all interested).

That was back in the days of the daily audio only podcast.

Several of the old podcasts have made it into video form, I particularly like the Happy Snacking segments.

I found this one rather distasteful. Normally Ben isn't a complete jerk about the topic and when he makes fun of a group they are a minority in the world (example pug lovers). This time he "poked fun" at a mainstream religion and a favorite story that is loved by many. Personally I am disappointed in this one and I am ashamed to say that I am a Wooter because of this single podcast.

You're in luck! "The Little Drummer Boy" wasn't even written until the 1940s, almost 400 years after the Council of Trent, so was not even considered for canonization. It is not actually a sacred text anywhere, except possibly to some seriously nutty fringe sects (e.g. adherents of the Von Trapp Family Singers).

Good catch. The original version was better. Should've just animated that version.

Here here! From now on, we should only ridicule minorities! They're the ones who deserve it!

Oh well. Christianity is becoming less mainstream every year. For every Christian woot offends, they gain approx 3 additional non-Christian followers. With people as sensitive as you, it's a wonder Christianity survives at all in this harsh, unforgiving environment known as the Interwebz. Good luck and Happy Holidaze!

People weren't nearly as sensitive 3 years ago when this first aired.

Guess FOX News' agenda of creating a Christian based theocracy is well on its way to fruition.

Two things I never thought I would hear in the same sentence: Baby Jesus and Lap Dance.

On the plus side, dermestid beetle has just entered my mental lexicon!
