Also try to ping your DVR to make sure your settings are correct.

Doubtful, I think the VGA signal output has to support digital output, and the DVR is probably not. Most TVs have a VGA input so you can use a regular monitor cable, or use a BNC->RCA video adapter for regular composite video (yellow jack).

my tv doesn't have VGA input. Can you only view one camera at a time with BNC to RCA?

This tutorial finally helped me set up to view the cameras on my Android phone.

http://www.zmodo.com/network

Had to sign up for free dynamic IP hosting at no-ip.com and use my chosen hostname (instead of my dynamic ip) to get it to work with ip cam viewer lite.

Also the no-ip dynamic update client needs to run on your computer to refresh the ip.

No, you can set the dvr to output a range of different views - all 8 on one screen (equal size), one camera view enlarged others smaller, just one camera view etc etc.

which camera would I connect the bnc to rca adapter to view all of them as mentioned.

So how are people running wires for these things?

I'm thinking of running CAT5E and using these baluns from Monoprice:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=110&cp_id=11011&cs_id=1101101&p_id=6878&seq=1&format=2

These seem nice, because it looks like the connectors match camera/DVR connectors, and they carry both power and video. I'll just have to terminate the CAT5E with RJ45 connectors and plug everything in.

Anyone have a better idea? Or a better source of baluns?

Make: Zmodo
Model: Zmodo DVR-8104UV Mobile Port (tried others but they didn't work for me.)
Host/IP: "Your IP address"
Mobile Port: default is 8888 if you didn't change it on your DVR
(note there are 3 different ports. HTTP, Mobile, and Server)
Ch# whichever camera you want to view
User: admin (wouldn't work with other accounts for me)
Pswd: 666666 (if you haven't changed it)

As long as you port forwarded 8888 in your router these settings should work. I forwarded all of them to be safe.

Thanks followed your steps and now it is working. Do you have the lite version or do you pay for it?

I ordered those for my camera's and they are working very well for me. and yes they do carry power and video over cat5 cable which is easier for me to run.

And it is working for me....... Until it doesn't work....

Every time i can't connect with Ip Cam Viewer lite I go to the DVR and try to log in. No user accounts are in the drop down. I have to restart the DVR and then everything starts working again. Not good if as soon as i leave the house this happens, then all day i can't view the feeds.

Thanks! I finally got IP cam view lite working too, and I have the exact same symptoms as you do. It seems as though accessing the dvr through the mobile app does something to lockup the user accounts until reboot. Disappointing to say the least, but doesn't make me regret the purchase. I'm guessing zmodo won't be too helpful figuring out why it's happening either.

ok, so the eight cameras attach to the rear of the dvr to the eight labelled bnc inputs (the bnc connectors are the push and twist type). There is then an output connector that is a bnc type, I think just to the right of the bank of 8 input connectors. You attach the bnc-rca adapter to this and then can run an rca cable to your TV (usually marked as composite input, ends of the cable are colored yellow [though a red or white terminated cable is exactly the same]). The dvr combines the view from all 8 cameras and sends them to the TV as I described. Hope this makes sense?

I'm thoroughly impressed. This is a great system. The software is very good, nothing like the generic software on the off-brand units like the Night Owl. It does do D1 in both display and recording modes. The cameras are really small and work fine for this price range.

It has a battery to keep the clock correct. An interesting and very loud piezo buzzer when anyone tries to change a setting. It can also be used to alert for movement and hard disk full events.

The PC client software has a few more settings than the GUI on the device does and it's also a completely unique software application (unlike the knock-off brands).

Good deal.

**EDIT** You can only actually put one hard drive in this DVR. The other drive is external.

I didn't know that you can hook up an external to this too, sweet. Has anyone found out how to back video up online?

Maybe you have alarms set. Try disabling the alarms in the menus. I noticed that when in the menu, to exit requires logout, but if you just press ESC on the DVR the menu goes away without logging out. Not sure if it's a bug or a feature ;)

I found an app that works better than IP Cam Viewer - MEye. Ip Cam viewer was very slow to refresh video frames for me (about 1 frame every 5 seconds at best), but with MEye, the video stream comes through at full frame rate like on the web viewer using Internet Explorer.

I tried this app and it absolutely slaughtered my battery life. Not sure if it will apply to all android phones, but on my evo 3d the battery life was horrible because of this app. Too bad too, because it worked pretty well.

Yeah, I noticed that too, but I think it's because it continues to run if you don't exit properly. It seems to keep running if you let the device sleep or go to the home screen without exiting. I'm also trying the app "ASee" which is almost the same; we'll see how the battery drain is with that one.

Has anyone been able to set the VGA output resolution to higher than 1024x768? My monitor can handle much higher but the DVR doesn't have a better option.

Could be, that shouldn't be the case though. Whoever wrote the app didn't do the wake lock properly, or hasn't fixed it. Every time I tried to exit using the menu, it would close the feed and re-open it immediately, so the only way to really kill the app it seems is to do so manually. Oh well, there's worse things in the world.

My unit was DOA. After sitting on hold waiting for tech support for 45 minutes they inform me that i have a defective unit. I have to pay shipping to get the product back to them and wait two weeks from the day they get it for a replacement. Seems like a great product... if it had worked....

Create a new user and give them basic rights to viewing and camera operation and you will be set. Use that name for the mobile phone ap log on.
I know this is old but I was having the same issue and this solved it.
Now both the 8 and 4 camera DVR set I've picked up from here are happy. ( says he as he slowly replaces the crappy cameras as they crap out )

Started using MEye last night. Refresh is noticeably faster than other apps. Too early for me to comment on battery usage (HTC Incredible V1/Skyraider Sense 4.x)

I usually keep a solar charger with me in addition to a standalone rechargeable battery pack that can connect to the phone at any time, so I'm not too concerned about battery drain at this stage. Will definitely monitor it, though.

I received this from Woot. I hooked up three cameras so far. The mouse does not work at all. I hooked up another corded mouse and it is choppy but it works. One of the cables was defective. So I don't know if I have a bad unit...I'm in the process of trying to set up the software, but it's hard with a choppy mouse. Zmodo has not responded as of yet. I tried again today, and customer support and tech support are in a staff meeting until after 4pm central time. So I'll have to try back.

Mine is working fine with Meye. I'm using http port 85. I originally had the port set to 83 and it wasn't working.

The client software that comes with this, LvrClient.exe, really sucks. It only runs in Full Screen or minimized. I wanted to move it to my little 7" monitor on the side. A rep finally contacted me and said that's the only client software I can use with this.

I've tried several others but had no luck. Has anyone found some actual windows software that'll run with this?

This device failed on me one year and two months after purchase. The Zmodo warranty was 1 year. The problem was bad (eventually leaky) capacitors on the power supply circuit.

As an aside, my experience has been that electronic device purchases on Woot! are generally not worthwhile. My sense is that most of these things are, for some reason, 'not wanted' through traditional channels and are 'dumped' via Woot!. This is probably obvious to many Wooters, yet the idea is we're paying less so we should expect less. The problem is that the electronic devices are generally so defective or bad that (for me) the cheap price just isn't worthwhile.

The story is different for non-electronic devices, though.
