Also my first thought.
this idea is great should save time when I change bits!
Add one of these and be free to screw and drill your brains out. http://www.amazon.com/Wiha-28103-Magnetic-Holder-Stubby/dp/B004A910HO/ref=pd_bxgy_hi_text_b Or; http://www.amazon.com/Skil-2346-01-3-6-Volt-Portable-Screwdriver/dp/B0015LQDRW/ref=sr_1_sc_2?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1325605570&sr=1-2-spell
Come on Woot. We already have a "As Seen On TV" place to shop. Put some good stuff out.
You can't tell me that's not a sonic screwdriver!!!
roadhunter wrote:Who needs 16 unbreakable screwdriver bits? What it SHOULD come with is 16 drill bits, since you have to replace broken ones (tiny bits break all the time) with identical ones. Screwdriver bits are standard. Why can't the drill bits be?
If you use this to install a deck, the bits will wear out. They won't break, but guaranteed they'll strip after screwing in a number of deck screws.
First thing I thought it was a sonic screwdriver, too.

Does anyone NOT yell in their head "BILLY MAYS HERE" whenever something like this pops up?
Not good for tight spaces; this adds on so much length its impractical and unsteady. PASS.
5 reviews on a product sold at $23 is different than the product sold at $9...
Dewalt's DW2735P is the real deal for this type of tool. I have used it in my impact to drive wood screws also, which IMO is a pretty abusive environment.
akane17 wrote:Does anyone NOT yell in their head "BILLY MAYS HERE" whenever something like this pops up?
Me.
Ryobi's version of this tool costs $11 and comes with one #2 phillips bit, and one drill bit. They sell additional drill bits (in difference sizes) and I tend to break them pretty quickly. For one medium sized project, I went through 4 drill bits.
Horrible reviews! Even for Woot this is a bad product! Come on Woot, don't sell this kind of junk to your following!
Maybe I will buy one of these so when I screw up my next fix it project I can try and blame this tool.
Almost pulled the trigger on these until I saw these reviews...No thanks. http://www.amazon.com/Allstar-HT011712-Half-Drill-Driver/product-reviews/B005CVCXRA/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1
One Amazon reviewer titled his 1 Star Review "Good idea HORRIBLY executed!" I have to disagree!! The idea itself was pretty bad to begin with! *sigh* please noone buy this junk so they stop trying to sell amazon's worst leftovers on woot!
I have seen the info-mmercial. I think the concept is great. I was going to go in for two. BUT, then I saw the amazon reviews. Now I am in for none. It's 2012 WOOT, why not improve your image from last year and only offer crap in the bag, as this is where this item should be. Wooters are smart stop offering us crap.
bluejester wrote:Wiven the amount of versitility that this screwdriver claims to have, it at least gets us nerds that much closer to the sonic screwdriver that we crave.
Heck yeah! I'm in for three to use as props and gifts. They're a lot cheaper than the official ones, and will get massive geek points for actually functioning. Okay, according to the reviews, barely functioning, but I'll take it.
In general, kits like this are next to useless. The idea is fine, but has been better done elsewhere (e.g. Tapcon concrete anchor has a kit that lets you go from drilling to driving in half a second, but it's much better engineered). The included bits are also crap. You don't need two of every kind - you need a bunch of #2 phillips! Stock up on a bulk pack of long #2 phillips bits from Granger or Home Depot - you'll save money. Also, pilot hole size depends on the size of screw you're sinking. The kit includes two, which is a "one size fits all" mentality that doesn't work, and neither are deep enough for long screws.

Don't be confusing Headset Vince with Billy Mays. And it would've been a 10 lb tub of OxiClean instead. :P
For a second there, I thought this looked a little like a sonic screw driver...
wingnut99 wrote:Even if it sucks, the included bits are worth something.
Definitely forget the flip-over thing, it's just dumb and probably dangerous. But for a storage case with lots of bits and a couple of drills this could come in handy.
TheFaz wrote:This is an interesting concept. Convince me wooters!
Buy one and tell us if it's worth it.
The ultimate impulse buy! It looks so groovy and so cheap, but i know it would sit around and never get used! Woot, I want a couple more of those $19.95 battery/flashlite/air pump/ car starters with the battery cables built in. When are you doing that woot again? Yeah yeah i know you can't say anything, that is what makes woot, woot. Just sayin...
pquijal wrote:Thanks for the useful post. Decision to not buy has been made.
Ditto
I was reading reviews on Amazon and according to the people on there, this thing really sucks. I saw this item by DeWalt that is the same idea, but the quality of DeWalt is not questionable. http://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DW2702-Drill-Drive-Complete/dp/B000HNHI2I/ref=cm_cr_pr_sims_t
obob wrote:Definitely forget the flip-over thing, it's just dumb and probably dangerous. But for a storage case with lots of bits and a couple of drills this could come in handy.
according to the reviewers on Amazon, even the bits and plastic case are cheaply made and not worth it.
No thanks. I'd rather use my fingernails.
johnecash wrote:No thanks Woot. The multiple 1 star reviews on your parent company's website have told me all I need to know.
Thanks for posting - was just about to hit the gold button after I said I was in for 3, but checked here and looked at the reviews you linked to.
gbinman wrote:Buy one and tell us if it's worth it.
Nope!
I second the quick connects. I got a set with a cordless black and decker drill 10 years ago. The drill is long gone but the quick connects stayed with me. Pretty handy for pilot holes. These are available in a nice set on Amazon for example for $20 and 4 out of 5 stars (32 reviews).
I bet these are the next Burgandy Olfactory Center main item for those of you that love the Burgandy Olfactory Center . As you keep hitting your F5 buttom to get into the server, remember these neat items.

Exactly, and those work pretty good for scenarios where you have to change from drill to driver quickly. I actually used a one (Black & Dekker I think) when I re-did my front deck. It saved me a lot of time. The only downside to using those kits is that the drill bits have to have the special 1/4" hex shank on them so if you break a bit, you might have a hard time finding replacements.
I got this for my husband for christmas and we returned it. it is dangerous. The blue ring that is supposed to secure the thing that holds the drill bits does not lock in place and tends to slide down if used at an angle. This was dangerous bc the drill bit then slipped down and cut his hand.
The Amazon reviews make we want to get one to see just how bad a product can be.
BUT WAIT!!!! It has a bonus storage case!
In for 3 just to test them out. I have seen it on TV. Rather than bash it without testing it for myself, I will try it and get back with results...good or bad. I like the idea of it. Hope it works! Look forward to my future review!

Hilariously bad reviews all-around. Good idea though
