Good morning, all. I appear to have the lovely sinus megacold/maybe flu that's going around lately. However, it's more annoying than debilitating at this point.

So much for those movie plans I had later.

Pix from the weather happenings yesterday are horrifying. Such an early hour for a tornado -always thought they were a late afternoon, evening thing.

Sunny and warm here today with a nice breeze. I am not going anywhere near a closet or drawers that need to be purged! Gotta go out to fill the pool (expensive water too) as it is "gargling" as I type. It usually takes an hour. Sometimes I forget, and the roar of the cleaner and the pump could wake the dead.

Hope everyone has a great day.

On the plus side, my work has hired Geese Police to address the annual goose invasion. Epic 'testimonial': "Our geese problem at our cemetery was getting worse by the day. We tried different methods such as ground treatments, and Mylar tape blowing in the wind. Nothing worked. We then decided to try the Geese Police. Six months later we have "zero" goose population - no more mess - and happy visitors to the graves. I recommend the Geese Police to anyone who has a geese problem."

Dogs? The park up the block never has geese. It is out in the open and there could be a dog any minute.

Yep, Geese Police = Border collies. The description is hysterical--it states that border collies--and ONLY border collies--have a 'wolf look' they use on the geese to mesmerize them. Geese apparently ignore other dogs completely. :D

Last year there was one pair that nested on campus, DESPITE the 'coyote cutouts' they put up all around the pond. Apparently the geese were very aggressive and attacked a couple people. Flags were put up and portions of the sidewalk disabled until the eggs hatched and mama wasn't as protective.

Bull! The geese here were in such a hurry to get away they flew into the fence when Rusty sneaked up on them
They take off as soon as they see a dog that might chase them.
They use border collies because those guys never turn off. They go all the time, for years and years!

Yeah, that was what made me laugh. Border collies need a job, and are very enthusiastic about getting to do their job. They are good dogs, for some people...but the website says they have a 'wolf look' that other dogs don't have, and that other dogs are ignored as not a threat. By that logic, the geese should figure out that people walking by aren't a threat either.

Our geese don't leave for people.
The town has trouble with the retired border collies. Even when they are old, they are too active for the area. I think they found a rescue in the country.

Border collies are nice dogs. I thought about getting one towards the middle of college. I was super active then and they are so loyal and can be easy to train if you are active enough. I'm glad I didn't. It wouldn't have worked out, poor dog would be miserable where we are now.

Being in the college I was in, having a dog was normal. Lots of students snuck them into buildings with them, heck I even let a friend keep her wolf behind my desk in the computer lab (yes full wolf, she was papered as such, had to have special permission to keep her.)

LOL, son's friend posted on twitter.
One of his 2nd graders asked him if he was older than the kids dad.
Dad is 41. Son's friend is 25!

I remember in 2nd grade we got a new teacher. This was catholic school in the early 60's. No masters required. She must have been 21 or 22.
Our parents were all upset.

We couldn't figure it out. She was an adult to us!

Best defense against an aggressive goose is a good offense. Preferably delivered via a nice solid boot. They'll generally leave you alone once they realize you can't be intimidated.

Arctic terns on the other hand... those you have to be careful about wandering into the nesting area. At least they give a verbal warning before trying to peck your brains out.

I guess that is why the town destroyed a nest on the sidewalk.

Why would they build a nest on a sidewalk feet from two busy streets...who knows? There was a pond there. Tons of grass around the pond. They ignored that.

I just got to eat lunch, still undecided if getting school lunches is a job perk or not. Stomach has been unhappy since yesterday.

Right now I'd be happy with a lay down for dinner, although Chinese always sounds good.

Poof, I made biscuits this morning do they count as baking?

I feel just about back to normal or as normal as I can! The surgery was not painful. My back hurt because of the angle of bed. My back hurt worse than the surgery. My throat has been sore but is much better today. The tape was much more aggravating than the incision.
