Thank heavens the saleswoman told me that with refrigerators these days, it is insane to purchase one without an extended warranty. I did so, but I did not do so for the Maytag washer I purchased at the very same time, and the motor died during the second year - right after the first anniversary of the purchase. Major appliances are horrid IMO nowadays.
