Funny, my vacuum crapped out today. It was no match for the puppy bomb set off in my living room. Unfortunately, Dyson is out of the budget. I ordered Hoover stick vac. It will have to due for now.

Not by a long shot. Sorry for the outside link, it was the only place I could find to demonstrate the sheer vastness of dysons offered on Woot in the past, lol.

For what it's worth: I bought a DC28 refurb on woot a couple years ago and it's still working fine. The only issue is it smells strongly like vomit when running - not kidding. My wife wants to get rid of it, but I can handle a little vomit smell for a great deal.

My refurb was like new. In fact, I'd make a strong argument that the only way to buy a Dyson would be refurbished, since they cost far more than they're worth otherwise.

My girlfriend picked up one of the higher-end Dyson Balls (not to be confused with a Dyson Sphere, of course) on Black Friday. Though I think there were minor mechanical trade-offs made to build it this way, I can't help feeling that all square wheel vacuums look outdated---even other Dysons. Has anyone else noticed something similar with the Ball, or have I simply ratcheted up my crazy by another notch?

All I can say is this thing really sucks. Run your old vacuum over an area and then use your Dyson on the same area. Absolutely amazing.

Yes they have a telescoping wand. I bought an additional floor attachment because I don't like the one it comes with. Love this vac.

Ever seen a 50th anniversary "Tri-Star" vac? Looks like something from a 1930's Flash Gordon serial. Found one at Salvation Army like new for $10. Very simple design that works great and is made of cast aluminum.

acpress.com Not cute, but useful.

Long-time Dyson owner here.

Things I like:

- SERIOUSLY rips hair, dirt, sand, pepperoni bits, whatever out of the carpet nap. It's really everything Dyson says it is on this point.

- Nice, long cord. You don't have to be searching for another outlet every few minutes.

- Well designed & built, easy to operate on floors, carpets and rugs.

- Relatively quiet and lightweight.

Things I don't like:

- Dumping the dirt is not something you want to do in your freshly-cleaned house. It always results in a little poof of dirt in your face.

- Hair accumulates in the upper reaches of the canister, clogging the unit and requiring disassembly of the canister to clear the clog.

- The quality of the hose attachments leaves a lot to be desired. Not up to the same standard as the rest of the machine.

- The quirky hose arrangement is a PITA. A separate hose would be REALLY nice

Bottom line: Buy this if you mostly vacuum floors and/or carpets; buy something else if you have to do lots of stairs, curtains, etc. or under a lot of furniture.

bought one of these a few years back also, the brute is still running like new. the only thing i have done to it is replace a broken belt for 2 bucks. extremely simple to maintain & operate. just remember to wash the permanent filter every month or so. like i said, 2 1/2 years & still going strong !!

OVERHYPED!

We have one of these in the office it feels very heavy and cheap. Also I really dont like how the tubes come out looks neat but is frustrating. I have a shark vacuum at home we got for the same price new with a steam mop. I like the vacuum and my wife loves the mop.

I bought a refurbished Dyson purple Animal over five years ago and when it arrived, one of the metal tubes was bent, preventing me from assembling the vacuum. I called Dyson right away (even though I'd bought the thing from Overstock.com) and within DAYS, they sent me a new part. They even knew it was refurbished because of the number on the vac. It didn't cost me a dime and service was provided with a smile and in record time. I've never had a problem with the vacuum at all. I love it, but our local carpet business says the beater bar can damage some types of carpet over time. He doesn't hate them, but he doesn't love them either. We've never seen damage issues on any of our carpet (so far). But we have had some scratching to our wood floors, so I don't use it on those.

The canister is bigger on this than the ball models. It's huge, so it should handle your fat cats with no problem. I have 2 long hair cats myself, it does grrrrrreat!

The hose can go up about 12 or 13 stairs any more than that and you'll have to carry it up the stairs.

I bought one of these on a previous Woot and had to return it because it came missing the filter housing and the part could not be sent by Dyson. I also questioned the statement within the box which said that all parts had been tested and passed...hmm, how could that be if all the parts werent there?! Id stay away from this older model vacuum. I do have the DC25 dysonball and love it though!

Sweet Jesus, Great day in the morning!!!! Finally, I can shut my husband up about not getting a dyson for our home when I bought one for my mom for Christmas. It's all he's talked about, especially on Christmas day when he put moms vacuum together & tried it out. Does it work well? Oh, hell yes! Does it navigate easily & efficiently? yes, yes & more yes.

The best part is that it's a larger model, which is exactly what we need for our home w/5 pets. My only reason for not buying 2 when ordering for my mom.

I'm texting my hubby now to tell him to shut up & pay up! Thanks, Woot!

I bought my first Dyson Vac (refurbished) from Woot. Loved the vac, lasted at least 5 years. Still have it, and use it as a back up vac. Bought my second Dyson Vac, also refurbished, a few months ago, also from Woot. Worked okay the first few times, then the beater bar gears started grinding and making this Gawd-Awful noise. We've tried to figure it out, but it's beyond our scope to fix it. So I'm using it w/out the beater bar...BUT it's very difficult to vaccuum a rug without a beater bar because the suction is so strong, it's nearly impossible to push the vac across the rug. I loved my first Dyson, but not so much the second one. I'm wondering if it's a refurbished issue though. I'm sure that's the reason why it was returned, and never properly fixed. Aside from the beater-bar issue, the hose is weird and awkward, the attachments don't stay on-board very well. Overall, it's just not very well designed.

We got the Dyson 25 (the one with the ball) the last time woot sold it, about a month or two ago. It arrived looking new, we could not tell it was a refurb.
It is a great vacuum. Sucks up everything. It is very easy to empty, and no more bags to buy.
Yes, it is a little heavy, but no more than most other vacuums. I really like the way the hose and attachments are always there and easy to use. Great stuff!

tracydr wrote:"refurbished" doesn't necessarily mean their was something wrong with it. Dyson doesn't come with any manuals, and some older folks can't even figure out how to put it together properly,so they return it without ever using it. Also many folks have buyers remorse.

I bought one of these a few months back and I loved it - that is until my *cough* ex *cough* girlfriend stole it for her house. Unfortunately I never got it back, so I am in for another one today (wish it was cyan but I guess the color doesn't really affect suction). I really recommend this one, I think it sucked stuff out of my area rug that had been stuck there for years!

I've purchased two refurbished Dysons from Woot over the years and have had good luck. The first was a DC14 and I used it for a few years without trouble. I recently upgraded to a DC28 (also a refurb from Woot) and had one issue. The beater bar stopped working after a few months. Luckily I was still within the 6-month warranty period, so I took it to Sears and they had it all fixed up in a couple weeks. Having that one issue was a bit annoying, but not too bad considering the years of daily use I've gotten out of the two machines.

In other news, the Kirby guys came over the other night and I was eager to see how my new DC28 stacked up. The Kirby won pretty handily. It pulled out a lot of dirt that the Dyson couldn't.

That being said, for the price, Dyson is probably the best vacuum on the market.

I bought a Woot Refurb Dyson DC25 About 4 months ago. It works great; it is really good if you have a dog that sheds (e.g. a Golden Retriever). No durability/quality problems so far.

DC33 was 280 at dyson.com, bestbuy, amazon for a week around black friday.

http://camelcamelcamel.com/Dyson-DC33-Multi-Floor-Upright-Bagless/product/B0043EW354

either way 80 bux off for a refurb is a good price IMO. Bought one for an xmas gift and it does perform very well compared to our old canister vac w/ a belt.

The last Dyson that was on Woot! a week or two ago, people were saying it had too much suction to be used on area rugs. Is that true with this model/all Dysons? I really want one but we have several area rugs that have lots of pet fur on them!

luk3d4wg wrote:Every time Woot puts up a Dyson vacuum (which is a lot!) I feel obligated to share my experience, which is that my Dyson refurb (which was as good as new) was not really any better than any entry-level vacuum. In some ways (durability) it was better, and in some ways worse (usability, like the uber-crappy wand that requires the entire cord to be unraveled before using). Sure it had plenty of suction but any modern vacuum should have more than enough suction for 99% of our typical uses.

If you're on a budget, there are plenty of vacuums that will provide great performance at a lower price including the Hoover Tempo Widepath, Bissell Cleanview, Hoover Platinum bagged, or Shark Navigator.

If you simply want the best consumer vacuum money can buy, get a Miele. They start at around $400 (yikes!) and go up from there, but they are the far superior vacuum if you can afford it and really do want the best.

I've done a detailed review of my Miele vs. my old Dyson, with video, if you are interested in learning more:

http://www.ultraconsumer.com/?p=7

I've got a Miele and my experience is very different. It's a VERY expensive vacuum that is mediocre at best. The plastic and metal parts are extremely well made and of high quality. Unfortunately as a vacuum it sucks, and I don't mean that in a good way. It uses a disposable bags. As the bag fills, the suction decreases dramatically. You won't notice that till you change the bag. I expected more from such an expensive vacuum.

I currently have a Bissel. It is better in some ways, but worse in others. The suction power on the Bissel is great. Like the Dyson the suction does not diminish as the dust bin fills up. But, it is big, heavy and clunky. It easily weighs twice as much as my Miele. The head is so big it won't fit under anything. You can release the hose to use the attachments, but the hose is poorly designed and before you can extend it much it will tip over the vacuum. One of the attachements sits in a built in cubby, but it is so poorly designed it falls out all the time.

I am tempted to get a Dyson to see if I can get the suction of the Bissel with the versatility of Miele. If this was a canister, I would jump on it.
