D-Y-S-O-N... There should be a band of cheerleaders cheerleading these vacuums. I have multiple large shedding dogs... my Hoover laughed at my carpet... My Dyson took on the challenge and OCH! MISTLETOE FRENCHING? GROSS!... I could not believe a vacuum could suck up what I found in the canister. I sing the praises of Dyson!

Yah... a week ago they had a dyson on here for $179. It was the DC14. I bought that one. Should arrive today actually. From what I understand, the two models are nearly identical. Don't know the specifics... just giong by what someone had told me. Kinda wish I had the option to buy one or the other rather than see this pop up a week or so after the fact, but no worries, I'm sure I'll be happy with mine when it arrives.

The only difference between this and the animal is the animal has the turbine hand tool with it. You can purchase the turbine separately from Dyson, online, etc. We found one at Bed Bath and Beyond. It runs about $60.

Personally, I don't think the hand tool is a) worth the money and b) all that effective. It's powered by the suction from the vacuum, which does make it spin fast, but is very easy to stop. Really, the tools that come standard are nice enough. The upholstery tool has a lint brush on the edge which picks up cat hair perfectly.

Bought a DC-14 refurb on here a couple of months ago and I love it. Works like an absolute charm and was much easier to maneuver than I had expected.

For those of you worried about a refurb, I wouldn't worry at all. Mine came with a 6 month warranty according to woot! and when I got it I registered the vacuum on the Dyson website. The next day I got an email saying "Thank you for registering the warranty on your DC14. Your machine is now covered for 5 YEARS INCLUDING PARTS AND LABOR."

So my $179 amazing vacuum is now fully covered for the next five years. Couldn't be happier with my purchase and you all will too. Just register your vacuum!!!

There is a switch on the base to switch it between bare floors and carpet. If you flip it to bare floors, the brush stops.

I only have hard wood and tile. Wanted some
feedback to determine if this is the right vacuum for me.
I have a very expensive Simplicity that the

after reading the reviews I'm not sure. Any

I bought a refurb dyson from woot march 2008 and it's working great. I did have to have it serviced one time but well worth it at this price. We have a cat & 2 big dogs, carpets and lots of fur.

For every item that woots sells on a given day, there is a line on the main page that tells us who the "First Sucker" is. This item gives new meaning to that distinction.

I prefer my miele for my hard surfaced floors - the basic model does great (I think all models have same motor so I bought the "cheapest" and they last a long time (had it more than 10 years).

Thats my issue too. I just talked to the vac shop. My hoover at 6 months old. And meticulous about cleaning the filters and can. They told me my vac needs to be completely cleaned out 58.00. I said nope I am going to buy a better vac. So now my problem is the lifetime filter is dead after 6 months. So I have to pay for a new one. A diagnostic fee of 25. So I am well over what I would have paid for this dyson. AgHH!

The repair shop said the miele is better. But the other guy showed me the dc41 yesterday at a whopping 600 bucks told me its the best vac you can buy. Yet the other guy said the miele is. white tundra frost? I mean seriously I like the bagless because it gets expensive buying the bags. But want a vac that will do what it needs to. I dont need it to go under furniture. I can do that with the wand. I currently do that already. Anyways sorry for the rant

The "I want one" button will turn into a SOLD OUT! image. I don't know how many Dysons I've seen sell out on wOOt! and they seem to have one on here every other week. If it sells out or you miss it, check back and I'm sure you'll find another.

Like a car, what each sales guy says "is the best vacuum you can buy" is going to be relative to their personal tastes and experiences... and commission payout. ;) I know lots of people with various Dyson models, every one of them love their Dyson and most have some pets, none complain of it missing hair. Like anything there may be some maintenance required -ie cleaning the filter and the brush head. But if you can give it a little it will give you a lot. Or so I am hoping as I jumped on this woot.

Let's see the quality impulse buys!

Ive had one for 2.5 years now. It still works but it has its bugs. Sometimes the carpet wheel thing underneath doesnt start spinning so I have to press down on a part on the side and it will work fine. This didn't start happening until about 8 months ago. It still works pretty well considering how old it is. It was a great deal in my opinion. I bought a dc07 for $150.

I am loooving my Dyson. It s making vacuuming enjoyable for me, and I normally hate to vacuum.

We always turned off the beater bar and used the "bare floor" setting. It still left a faint scratch everywhere it went, which means after one use we had a nice network of scratches all over the place. We checked and there was nothing trapped underneath it, so no idea where it is coming from, unless some component is rubbing / dragging. Not pleased either way.

Yes, you will have to wrap the cord. A small thing considering how awesome these vacuum cleaners are. From my own personal experience with MANY other vacuum brands, these are the best vacuum money can buy, and will out last all of the other vacuum brands. Not to mention IF by some chance it does happen to break, simply call Dyson, and they will provide you with a shop location (as close to your location as possible) to take it to be fixed for FREE.

I bought the small dyson ball vac a few weeks ago from Woot. It was a 'refurb'. I can safely say there is no way this vac was ever used in any way shape or form.

My guess is Dyson sells brand new vacs as "refurbished" in order to justify the higher price elsewhere. I presume it is a crapshoot and you might actually get a refurb, but in my experience, it's new.

I also have a roomba and scooba (bought off Woot as refurbs) and they were also new in every way possible and I don't think they were ever used or handled by a consumer.

Back to the Dyson. Best vac I have ever owned. One of the things I like about it is the size though... this one is bigger. The ball portion is kinda a gimmick. I don't find myself having trouble negotiating a regular vac so I wouldn't let that part of this woot scare you. The engineering of the one I have is awesome. There is a complaint above about having to take the whole cord out to use the wand. that is true, but the cord pops right off and that is the first thing I do when using it. It seems like every little thing was thought out, and thought out well.

Buy yourself the Dyson, and for goodness sake gets your boys a dog!! There is something quite special about boys and their dog. Our dog lays by the front door waiting all day for his "boy" (my 7 year old) to get home. They are inseparable and it's so moving/special.

I bought a refurb of this very same model the last time Woot sold them and I am completely satisfied with it. I have 4 dogs in my home and the majority of it is carpeted and the Dyson does the best job of any other brand and removing the hair from it. I have no real complaints about it other then the extension tool can be a little hard to re-track every now and then. You can vacuum under beds with it and the power cord is amazingly long. I would buy another if needed, but one is enough to care for my 3,600 sq feet.

WAIT!!! What?

I'm not a hater either, but I recognize when things are over-hyped. We have 4 dogs and, last I checked, at least 4 cats. (For those that care - Yellow Lab, 2 Yorkies, and a Siberian Husky) We had a Shark Infinity that worked well for about 3 years. Still works okay, but not as good as it used to. We looked at Dyson's, but I couldn't justify spending the $400+ for one. (This was before Woot seemed to corner the market on refurb'd ones.) We took a chance on an LG vacuum for a little over $200, and after having it for a year we wouldn't look back. Easy to clean, beater bar turns off automatically when vacuum is upright, 4 carpet level settings, retractable 30-foot cord....and the capper: A cool looking windshield wiper thing in the canister that compresses the dirt as you vacuum so there's less emptying.

As a test, my friend brought his Dyson over. Vacuumed our rug with it. Wasn't overly impressed. Went over same space with our LG. More stuff came up after the Dyson had it's chance. Case closed.

Dyson's are good...but they're not the end-all of vacuums anymore.

All my quality posts have been about vacuums...does that mean I suck?

My personal experience was with "older" people. Not "younger" people, not "black" people...."OLDER" people. I have also read many reviews from OLDER people who complain there is no manual or instructions on the Dyson. I would never call my grandmother "stupid" or "lazy" but I WILL call her "older", she's 82 years old. She would agree with me. I don't think SHE would be so offended to know that I said she had a difficult time putting her Dyson together without a manual or instructions. Same with my mother in law. She could have done it years ago, before her eyesight got bad and she lost much of her strength. My mother in law returned hers before ever using it, because she couldn't figure it out. REALITY.

I wasn't trying to be offensive, I was trying to point out (in my experience) that I know of 2 Dysons "returned" before ever being used....thus those 2 were resold are "refurbs". I'm positive a lot of younger people would have trouble too, but I do not have personal EXPERIENCE with Dyson and younger people putting it together. I DO have personal experience with 2 older people and Dyson. That was my only comment. I think you might have a chip on your shoulder, just a bit.

Bought a Shark Navigator less than a year ago due to the price point and reviews saying "just as good" as a Dyson.

Worked good initially, but now does not pick up anything. Can't remember if I paid $99 or $149 for it new. VERY DISAPPOINTED. Picks up nothing now. In a ~2000 sq ft home that is vaccumed 1 to 3x a week with a mix of carpet, tile, and hardwood. After a couple months, nothing would come up on tile or hardward thus on the tile, I had to use with the brushes down.

Will NEVER buy Shark products again. Even the steamer my wife got for the tiles went dead (a big pop noise and steam everywhere) within 6 months.

This Dyson is last expensive vaccum purchase. If this is thing ends up like the Shark, then it's back to Sears and Kenmore brands!

Anyway... just wanted to share my experience with Shark. Cheap and just that... "Cheap!"

I bought one refurbished about 6 months ago. It's definitely a good vacuum, but to be honest, I am a little disappointed in a few things:
1) In order to use the hose attachment, the cord needs to be unwound the whole way. I know this sounds like a minor thing, but it is irritating, especially when cleaning up a small spill.
2) It's very heavy - my wife (admittedly rather small) has trouble taking it up/down stairs.
3) It's not made from the most durable plastic. About a week after it arrived, one of the plastic clip on the storage part broke off. Doesn't affect performance, but worrying!
Although pretty powerful, I just don't think it's worth the price tag. Prior to this, I had a $35 dirt devil that lasted 2 years and performed pretty well. I'd happily go back to that in exchange for $165!
