OCH! MISTLETOE FRENCHING? GROSS!, they threw a Dyson away? Our Dyson's are all refurbs, all FIVE of them, one for each family. One had been used to clean a BestBuy warehouse, believe it or not. We took it to a local repair shop approved for Dysons, and it needed a couple of replacement gastkets, and a good cleaning.

Unfortunately as a vacuum it sucks, and I don't mean that in a good way. It uses a disposable bags. As the bag fills, the suction decreases dramatically. You won't notice that till you change the bag. I expected more from such an expensive vacuum.

I currently have a Bissel. It is better in some ways, but worse in others. The suction power on the Bissel is great. Like the Dyson the suction does not diminish as the dust bin fills up. But, it is big, heavy and clunky. It easily weighs twice as much as my Miele. The head is so big it won't fit under anything. You can release the hose to use the attachments, but the hose is poorly designed and before you can extend it much it will tip over the vacuum. One of the attachements sits in a built in cubby, but it is so poorly designed it falls out all the time.

I am tempted to get a Dyson to see if I can get the suction of the Bissel with the versatility of Miele. If this was a canister, I would jump on it.

I totally agree with your assessment; this is the major "downside" to a bagged vacuum. However, with my Miele I've noticed 2 things: it takes a long time (like months) of use in my small condo before I start noticing decreased performance and I also don't notice the suction decreasing "dramatically" -- just a bit which says to me "time to put in a new bag". Yes it's expensive to have to buy bags, but it's totally worth it to me not to have to go outside to empty or take a puff of dirt in the face.

If you think the Dyson is going to be a happy median between the Bissell and the Miele, I believe you'll be sorely disappointed. It is basically a more durable Bissell with a bit more suction but trades off usability (like bad attachments and no light). They both weigh too much to haul around.

Pros:
I have had a Dyson Animal for 5 years now.
The "On" button broke and needed an easy adjustment. I also replaced the brush (Amazon) because it was "sticking" to the floor. The shortened bristles brought the vac too close to the floor and the suction made it hard to push.
I had a Kirby rep come tell me my vac was a "toy" in a demonstration, but after the Kirby vacuumed, the Dyson picked up what the Kirby left behind. The rep compared the suction and decared it a tie.
This thing is a monster. The cost of ownership is less than a Kirby - $5/yr, and fixing it is a snap.
If my Dyson died tonight I would fix, or replace it tomorrow.
It smokes my Windtunnel.
Cons:
The cable wraps around the handle for storage, which means to use the wand, you have to unwind the whole cable.
The wand is a poor design, and awkward to use. It works fine, just doesn't "feel" good.

No, it would become a big black hole. Now that would REALLY suck.

Even if this isn't necessarily the "best" vacuum available, at least it disassembles so you can keep it running clean. That alone is worth something, right?

Yes it is. I had to do the same thing after mine inhaled a bunch of (mostly) dried cat pee. Cleaned up fine.

There's no need to unwind the cord. The catch on the handle is the quick release type. Flip it down and the cord pulls off. Of course you still have to wind it when you're done.

Was unable to resist this superb deal on today's Woot. My wife was actually the push over the top as she's done with our last Dyson.

I hope they've worked out the seemingly brittle plastic issues that our last one had. Although my wife is quick to point out that it has been pretty heavily beat up over its lifetime.

Anyway, thanks, Wooters, your comments helped make the sale!

I have had this vacuum for about a year......

Sucks the same as it did day one.....

The wand thing is a little bit of a pain....Just wierd....Hard to explain....Useful but cumbersome....

Once in a while is you have a pet....the bottom gets clogged with hair that you have to pick out.....

Takes out more stuff out of your carpet than you would ever dream and the carpets are spotless.....

Bought mine at Home Depot for $200 something with 0% for a year....I want to says $270ish....

For $199....a good deal....

where does woot get their picture images from? do they create there own or do they get them from somewhere. It always has a white background which I like. Is there a program they use to accomplish this?

Sorry I know it is off topic of the vacuum but just have to know

I went to Lowes today and ran both this model and the DC25 across the floor unplugged. This model made much more noise in motion than the ball version, leaving me to believe that it indeed may scratch my hardwood floors. Anyone else have any experiences with either on hardwood flooring? Feeling remorseful :/

Ok, white tundra frost... I just got my DC14 from last week's Woot and after trying to vacuum the house.. this sucker has shut breaker off in a section of my house twice... in 2 different plugs... also it makes a loud noise in carpet mode on regular room carpet. I'm calling Dyson tomorrow

Yes, yes... the problem isn't removing it, it's having to re-wind it, even for a close fast clean-up.

I bought this unit about 3 months ago and am very pleased with shipping and the product.
It was packaged in all new packing and in fact looked like a new vac. The only indication that it was a refurb is that the labeling on the outside of the box said so.
(The refurb label is perhaps a marketing plot to boost the sales of this product brand)

Does it pick up pet hair??? YES YES YES it does, like no vac I have ever used. I have a large black lab that stays in the house. I had no idea he shed so much hair. The first time we used this vac it filled the canister up TWICE, so that told me the five year old Royal Vac was just not working like we thought it was.
This vac, though made of mostly modern age plastic, feels and sounds heavy duty.
The attachment hose takes a little figuring out, but it works ok with the attachments.

Overall a good buy at Woot pricing, but not worth the full retail $400 retail pricing, but is any vac really worth $400 or more?

I'll put in my $.02 on my experience. A neighbor stored a Dyson at my house and allowed me to use it as long as I cleaned it out. I'm thinking it was a DC-14, but can't be sure.

I was able to use the Dyson and my Dirt Devil, back to back, the Dyson was quieter and seemed better made and a smoother vacuuming experience, if there is such a thing. It seemed like a better quality product. The DD just did a better job of getting the dirt out.

I'd do a room with the Dyson for the first time and I'd get X amount of dirt. The DD pulled out X amount on the second try.

I'd do a room with the DD first and get X amount of dirt, the Dyson would get X/2 on the second try.

Is the 33 that much better than the 14?

Listen to me now, or hear me say "I told you so" later.

I know what you mean. I consider getting the vacuum cleaner from the closet an ordeal. lol
I picked up a Black and Decker Cordless handvac a couple years ago that's been great for little cleanups.

We typically process and ship out orders within 5 business days, not including the date of the purchase. Don't worry, we'll send you tracking when it becomes available.

I never received a shipping notification from Woot and Fedex didn't leave any notice at my door. I just happened to be in the apartment office today for something else and they told me I had a package there. My account still doesn't say it was shipped. Oh well, glad it's here. lol

i probably did a dumb thing, but we are moving to the UK in about 2 months. Will the Dyson DC33 take 110-220 and simply need a plug adapter or will it need a voltage adapter as well. If a voltage adapter is needed i will probably try cancel the order if i can.

I just tracked mine. Says it was out for delivery Jan 7th but nothing was delivered that day. This is eerily similar to the Pionner A/V Receiver purchase I made three months ago that never showed up to my office and Woot/FedEx just said "sorry". We will see if it is delivered today.
