This is my concern as well. Specifically, what sort of issue should we expect?

I've had a Thrive since October, I got this case from Amazon. It had good reviews and was only 20 bucks. My Thrive hasn't left the case since, no complaints. Fit is perfect and all of the ports, sensors & leds are left unblocked. The 5 star reviews on Amazon are all justified, especially considering the price.

I sent my first tablet back and am awaiting my credit to show up. HOWEVER, I ordered another one today because I've always heard such good things about Woot. They were very quick to allow me to return my first one, and I believe that was just a bad batch. I'll let you all know, but the problem I had with my first one was that it wouldn't upgrade to the latest version. Others had different problems.

I'm a little nervous about the refurbished aspect, but it's a pretty good price. And as long as the touch screen's not busted and the audio works, I'll be happy to tinker with it. Software glitches are relatively easy to fix. Has CM been ported to the Thrive yet?

Does anyone know if Toshiba will update the OS if you send it back to the Toshiba Depot, and is there a charge for that?

When I received my Thrive, it had Android Honeycomb 3.1 installed. I downloaded and updated mine a couple of weeks ago to 3.2 when it was released. You use a Toshiba Update app that is already installed on the tablet.

The upgrade was quick and easy. There was no charge, you don't need to send it anywhere.

Ordered a Thrive the last time Woot had it. We like it but the rear camera is inoperative. Called Toshiba and was told we could send it in but had to wait for RM number. Never got it. Called back yesterday and they had no record of us calling. As of now, still waiting for the RM number to be able to send it back. But the good news is they're considering covering it under the 90 day warranty. Wish us luck

Mine will not update through the app. It just locks up.

The picture of the box says reconditioned and the ad say refurbished. There is a big difference between the two. Can anyone answer which it actually is.

I am sending mine off tomorrow to a Toshiba Repair Center and as far as I know, they will update it because they need to test the update center to see if it works. If you get a device from Woot and it's defective, then it costs around $25 to send it to Toshiba as well as 14-21 days to get it back.

You're trolling.

I also purchased one before Xmas and it arrived looking brand new BUT with the wrong charger. I called Toshiba support and they told me I'd have to contract WOOT. My husband wasn't happy with that answer so be called and they agreed to send us the correct charger. And they sent it immediately and it arrived 2 days later. Someone screwed up the packing but Toshiba fixed the problem right away. I'm very happy with my Thrive.

Toshiba told me that they were working on a different version for release soon . They told me the reason why it would not update would be addressed and to just wait for the new version.

Jerry, can you elaborate? For example, if I am going someplace from home and a car without GPS I can print out turn by turn instructions and a Google map – maybe if I'm lucky on one page. Then I have to tape it someplace so I can see it clearly while driving. Are you staying up with a static map on the display. With no Wi-Fi or 3G how does that figure out where you are to provide real GPS turn by turn instructions? I do not think that you are very likely to pick up open Wi-Fi on the freeway, or to be able to reset your tab on the fly. But I am new at this which is why I'm asking.

this is the whole point of all the comments posted about checking out the threads at thriveforums.org. there was simply a problem with the image that the refurb center installed and it's literally a matter of 30 minutes to work around it and be up and running on the newest 3.2, even as an un-rooted version if that is what floats your boat.

There are certain apps that might require a licensing agreement that does not extend to Canada... An example (prior to October) would have been Netflix, but as of October Netflix has extended their license to Canada... Other subscription content aka music/video/literature services might be still effected though...

This doesn't mean that the tablet won't work in Canada it just means that it might have some limitations that it doesn't have in the US...

I have that 5" Samsung Galaxy S Tablet/multimedia player that was up on Woot in September. Everyone said to download the Google maps before driving and the GPS would work fine. I looked up a destination before driving and then got in my car. It still was able to guide me even to an alternate that was about 10 miles away. I'm not sure how you down load maps ahead of time with Google for a trip abroad but others have said that it works well.

I did look this up and it has GPS so will work without wifi or 3G (which are not accurate anyway). I would think that this would be a very big and bulky GPS, though nice to look at maps on.
