I've had my set of these for literally YEARS and they are still in perfect condition. Even after microwaving and dishwashers, they are awesome. I'm in for a new set at this price! WOOT!

Really wish these nested for storage. Bought some earlier and ended up sticking them in an out of the way and inconvenient spot because they take up so much space.

would only attempt storing very light, lo-gas beer, beans, eggs etc. out of safety/gastrointestinal comfort concerns.

skou wrote:Simply, no!

If you look, a beer (or any other carbonated beverage) container has a SMALL lid, and is TIGHTLY secured. That is to keep the essential (co2) gas inside that container. The force on the lid will increase with the square of the surface of the opening.

I agree. We were really disappointed that they didn't fit inside each other. I could have sworn that I read something saying they did.

We have been using versions of these purchased from Asian markets for at least 6 years. They've proven leak proof and dishwasher robust over that time. At a bit more than $1 each container when you factor shipping in, this is a screaming bargain.

faleentoby wrote:Does anyone know in which country these are made?

They're made in Vietnam. If you go to their new website, you'll see some descriptions and grammatical errors of some items that are similar to those descriptions you occasionally see on Chinese menus when describing the dishes.

I'm NOT generalizing or stereotyping, as a matter of fact, I happen to think it's cute (a word I seldom use), and these containers absolutely ROCK!!! I've bought several different sets of them, have turned my friends on to them (they love them), and I'm getting THIS set as a gift for a relative as well. Just be careful to compare sizes of the containers (especially when buying sets), as some of the sizes are VERY similar, and you don't want duplicates of the same thing unless you're getting them as a gift for someone.

They also have some terrific daily deals on their website and sometimes 50% to 75% sales (and more) on all of their items - definitely worth checking out!

Newer generation has glass bottoms for microwave cooking - warnings for cooking with these in microwave even though Woot states reheating only on the plastic units.

Bought these last time around based on lots of great feedback -
They are great!

EXCEPT

You get a ton of very small ones that have almost no use whatsoever.
:-( It's really dumb.

The medium to large ones are great however!

My husband would never take leftover food to work before we got these because it was always not easy to see - or in zip lock bags and not easy to transfer or cook. Now he does!

I would gladly trade three small ones - for one large - or two smalls for one medium!

These things are so great - I use the tiny containers for my kid's lunches as you can fit a small amount of whatever in them and they fit into his lunch box.

Totally getting this huge set so I can stop stealing my SIL's every time she brings something over and forgets it at my house

I got these the last time they popped up on Woot and use them to store everything from cookies to pasta to fancy stir fry dishes. I remember someone saying that they don't warp last time, so I loosened the lid and popped it in the microwave.

Be warned: After 45 seconds or so the lids WILL warp (somewhat) if left on top of the hot food. Not to the extent cheap-o gladware will, but I always remove the lids and cover with a paper towel when microwaving.

After about a month or so of use I haven't encountered any stains from continuous pasta use and the lid looks seem pretty durable. I wish there were more large containers. Do yourself a favor and get 2 sets.

Oh Man! Lock & Lock makes the best food storage stuff EVER! And this price is amazing. Problem is that my husband will divorce me if I put any more containers in my cupboard, and the red lids will stand out as "NEW" (all my others are clear w/blue silicone). As much as I love the guy, I am still trying to find a way to justify buying these...

susiewoots wrote:I think I'm getting a set, but what I really need is something that will keep my food freezer fresh. I love to make chili and right now my storage system is plastic ziploc bags and well, they suck.

What say you, owners of lock & lock, does this stuff prevent freezer burn?

The zip lock bags will do a better job if you squeeze all the air out before sealing them.

Freezer burn happens when the water (ice) in the food evaporates, leaving little dry patches. If there's no air in contact with the food there's no place for the water to go.

These would work if you overfilled them so there was no air at the top, but then the seals would get messy. I'd stick with the bags.

I bought the orange Lock & Lock set on Woot a while back and am thrilled with the quality. Heavy duty and never a spill or leak. And for this price they are a real bargain. Only negative is that they don't stack so storage takes up room.

mm20 wrote:How durable is the hinged tab that locks shut? Anyone experience any breakage with these?

Yes, when exposed to the outdoor elements for extended periods of time the tabs will wear out and break off in 1 - 3 years(geocaching). Inside with a fairly consistent environment they are fine.

I would NOT NOT NOT buy anything from lock and lock. I have previously made this mistake. When the package arrived, in early to mid december I had a problem with it. I called their phone number and emailed their support line no less than 5 times each. When I got no reply back, I even commented on their facebook page MULTIPLE times asking for someone to contact me and have NEVER heard back from them.

DO NOT BUY FROM LOCK AND LOCK.

Hey ! Why there is no electionic in this?

W00t! has a diabolical marketing strategy: they sell gadgets, most of which are electronic.

There have been plenty of things on W00t! that are used around the house and are non-electric, like leaf mulchers, knives, and furniture.

I don't know if they have a rotation, or what, but once every week or two you'll see something that doesn't plug in or use batteries, if you make the life-altering mistake of hanging around here long enough.

I'm supposed to buy something? But we're having so much fun with things as they are, I don't want to ruin it!

I love the seal on these. I don't have to double bag them in case of leaks to put them in my backpack. The size range could have been better. Most of them are rather small. These would be great for those people who don't like to have one food touching another on their plate.

In for one.
I can second (or third or fourth or whatever) that they are great for geocaches. I used one in the woods for 2 years and didn't have a single leak or anything.
I also heard these containers can store food. Who knew?

Totally agree. I got these and as containers, they are great. However, they do not stack inside themselves so storage is impossible. I don't use half of them and will probably toss them because they are too big. I'll keep the small ones for my purposes.

I use the next-to-largest one for sandwiches. Granted, it's bigger than needed, but it works great with the large pieces of bread that most multigrain breads use.

I got three sets of the blue ones before, and ordered another three of these red ones. Looks like this is the same as the other set, with a few extra small containers that will work well for sauce leftovers.

And I'm starting to repackage macaroni in these, since I've had little black bugs get into cardboard-boxed stuff.

Wow - I woot!ed so much my sig can't contain it all!

I bought the ones with the Blue Lids based on reviews a while back and loved them. Just bought the red ones (arrived yesterday) from another company for the same price, but had to pay $4.99 shipping on each set.

I agree that I thought the containers were smaller at first, but am surprised that they hold quite a bit. Because they are airtight, they can be filled all the way to the top. The air space between the food and the lid can actually cause the food to go bad faster.

I have 2 yr old twin girls, and the tiny red ones are perfect for their snacks.

I do wish that they nested so that could store them better. On the other hand, I'm always able to find a lid.

There is a company called lunchsense that sells lunchboxes that turn into placemats that use lock n locks exclusively for their lunchboxes. They also give you an idea how much these little containers will hold.

When I saw these offered here, I bought them to try the containers before I invested in the lunchboxes. I've more than gotten my money's worth on these.

It says that lids and containers are both microwave safe, but then it only states, "Dishwasher safe." Does this apply to both the lids and the containers? Are the lids dishwasher save as it seems like it's got silicone seal?

How do they compare to Rubbermaid? Do these get those white spots on them after long use & dishwasher?
