Can I add 4 more cameras on this surveillance system?

No. This is a 4 channel system, which means you can have a max of 4 cameras.

You can switch out the cameras for better ones of course.

Panasonic or sanyo, pretty much any of them, off ebay, nice and cheap. Usually pulls from corporate installs, just get an external enclose from monoprice and off you go.

how much will this record with a 10 or 20gb harddrive? ( a few days?)

For reference, at 20fps D1 resolution (the max), it's about 400-450MB/hour.

Lot's of privacy attorney wanna-bes in this discussion. I wouldn't take legal advice from woot forum folks anymore then I'd see a palm reader for my investments.

This is a good unit if not for the DVR alone.
You can add a HDD from eBay for about $30 for a 200-250GB. Depends on how much recording your needs call for.

I'm buying one to keep an eye on my beach house when I'm not there. See which neigbors let their dogs Potty Emergency on my lawn, which of the summer renters across the street are pool hopping in my pool,etc...
If the cameras suck, I'll put better ones in eventually.

Can the system be backed up? Doesn't make sense to have security system sitting in the closet with the rest of my network gear to get stolen. I'd like to have it backup to my secondary server over VPN at my girlfriend's apartment if possible.

Any chance the Zmodo 4 Channel Surveillance System offered on Jan 30th is still available at the same price? If so, where do I need to go to purchase it? Thanks

If my zmodopipe works with it, you could connect it to a zoneminder box and have ZM also record.
Not quite the same, but better than nothing.
At least THAT you can backup over VPN easily.

You must be new here. :-)
Short answer: No, not from here for sure.

Long answer: Woot: One Day, One Deal.
Woot typically has the best deals of anyone else. Basically a one-day sale for a particular item. So you won't find it cheaper anywhere else usually. That's not always true, it may not be the exact same price, but might not be too much more.

The best you can typically hope for is $30-50 more somewhere else: http://www.homesecurity361.com/outdoor-surveillance-camera-pkd-dk4216-1349.html

Or, wait 2-3 weeks for the next Woot!-off, where it'll most likely appear again since it didn't sell out.

Has anyone gotten this thing to work on the mac (or windows for that matter?) I've tried both at this point (using their app) and it just won't login for me. Is there a secret password? I set the password for admin, and tried that... no dice. I live chatted with zmodo, and they told me to try 123456 or a blank passwd, still nothing. I left the ports default, so I'm using 9000 for the media port... Can anyone clue me in? I have this thing working with asee on the iphone, using the admin user, and the password I set, so connectivity isn't the problem. So frustrated at this point.

I got mine today.
I added a 250GB Drive (had one laying around).

My only question so far:
If this is NEW, then why does mine have the serial number of 1234567890 ?

However, with a 250GB Drive, 4 cameras, D1/Best resolution: 517 hours. Not bad..

Also, does anyone know the root password for these devices? I noticed that telnet was listening, but no luck with guessing.

I was just looking at my local compusa and found a 250GB for $70,,,,probably gonna go tomorrow and grab one to start playing with mine that came in today so I can keep an eye on my place in another city in the woods.

mine just arrived today. I must say I was very dissapointed with the packaging. Not even wrapped in plain paper nor were the ends taped up. I will have to see if it has been water damaged. I'll think twice about buying from woot in future. Oh and I have tried to contact them via email on this and other matters. No repsonse.

Mine arrived today, I slipped in a 500GB hard drive and did the initial setup and successfully got it to talk to my desktop computer over wifi with a iogear wifi adapter using a fixed address.
Next I'll try making it talk to my cellphone. But one thing I can't find./ How do you turn the durn thing off ? No on off switch, and nothing I can find other than reboot in the menu system. I'd hate to corrupt the hard drive doing unplugs. I did force it to go to reboot and quickly pulled the plug when the screen went blank

EDIT 2-7-12
I finally got hold of someone at Zmodo. It seems the 4 channel box does not have either an off switch or a menu option to turn it off. You simply unplug it.

Got mine today.

Fired right up, I don't have an HDD yet,
hopefully I will by the time I'm ready to install the system.

Picture was OK for what it is,
colors are horrible tho.

Blue t-shirt on my son looked white,
wood cabinets look white.

Pretty unreliable if you need to know the color of something.
(like what color sweatshirt the guy stealing your TV is wearing).

Though so far, no complaints for $104.

You can fiddle with the saturation/contrast and make them a little bit better.

Yep needed to download the dvrplayer and zip files from zmodo pretty straight forward from there. Their tech support is slowly figuring it out.

Mac misses: mini disk, having to connect to a VGA to setup, no documentation for Macs

I have been trying to find the best deal on a 4 camera system like this woot deal. I have found some reviews on the woot blog that makes me think is it best to spend a bit more for good service vs a bit cheaper price?? I have been talking with a company i found CCTV Cameras which seem to offer the best customer support whenever i have a question. I have also considered the fact that buy a security camera system from woot (a company that is not in the surveillance business) will provide little support if need. Has anyone done business with this company? They seem to have all Zmodo brand products....

Got mine today.

Had a nice ear full of alarms going off once I powered it up due to not having a harddrive installed, once i navigated the crappy menu and killed the alarm, i was then able to enjoy my new toy in peace.

Decent cameras for the cost. No complaints here.

What is the difference between the DVR's H9104V and H9124V? I ended up receiving the DVR H9104V instead of H9124V.

It has a silver face instead of a black face ?
It may also have a search feature according to several websites. Otherwise they seem to spec out the same.

What I am trying to find out is at the software or hardware level and not the enclosure. I am assuming they have different firmware version thus the different model number. Is that correct? If so, can the firmware of the H9124 model be installed on the H9104 model? Just an example look at some android devices or even iPhone, different models can run the same software version. I am taking into consideration that some software functionality that is hardware dependent may not be available.

Can you post a pic of the board inside? If the hardware is different than the firmware won't work.

Also could you do a port scan and see what ports are open for that model? Superscan is free and works well for this; http://downloadcenter.mcafee.com/products/tools/foundstone/superscan3.zip

For $100, the DVR isn't bad at all.

Infact, for a basic cheap-o linux DVR, this thing is a steal. The cameras that come with it, however, are this kits weakness. The cameras are absolutely terrible. That said, I don't think they're much worse than your average 4 camera kit box for $300-400.

If you have good light, they're fine. But when faced with solid backgrounds or marginal light, they'll often just go black or flicker.

The image also bounces slightly when the IR LEDs are on. Not horrible, but if you set the motion detection too high you might have issues.

Gradually replace the cameras and this is a great setup.

I have Frontier as my ISP and a westell router/modem (combo box from Frontier). I can see the dvr and cameras from my network but can't seem to get remote access (via phone/ipad) working.

I'm port forwarding 80 and 9000 on my router/modem. It seems pretty straightforward but no luck. I've tried to change this ports #'s on the dvr and then change the forwarding on the router, but no luck.

Any suggestions?

warning the password can only be 6 characters long. It will let you type more when setting up the passwords but only the first 6 will be used. Also the direct interface using a mouse only, can only input numbers. Resetting the system will not clear the password!

Pull the battery and the password will clear.
Of course all your settings will also go bye bye but at least you can get back in.
