Well, how do you fare compared to the Zeitgeist? Chat up your fellow wooters and let us know how lame this poll was or what obvious choices we missed. For example: Was this poll a) STUPID, b) DUMB, c) POINTLESS or d) ALL OF THE ABOVE?

The best Valentine's Day gift would be a few hours of peace & quiet.

Just another day together is perfect. My wife and I haven't exchanged holiday gifts for years. We buy gifts for each other on whims- when we just feel like it. It means more because it's not scheduled.

She's obsessed with owls. I gave it to her early today and she loved it.

From the S.O.:
"A clean house, that I didn't have to clean
Clean dogs that I didn't have to wash
A clean car that I didn't have to detail
... basically all the Stuff I normally have to do for myself done by someone else. Bonus points for that someone being YOU... oh, and a massage would be nice"

I am SO screwed!

I was thinking the same thing. I was going to say jewelry but then saw this answer. I want this guy.

There was a time when I thought it would be a nice vacuum cleaner but I learned my lesson after it was followed by 18 months of celibacy. Just a word to the wise boys and girls!

Cooking dinner together, even the kids, then having a candlelight and soft music dinner with wine and special, usually homemade, dessert. Sometimes we'll pick up dessert from a fancy restaurant first. The kids drink juice from wine glasses too.

Just being together with your special someone. Doing what she (in my case) really likes to do. We never go out on Valentines Day, its too crowded and prices outrageous for "special meals" that are often unhealthy. I'll often cook a special favorite for her, watch a DVD that she loves and cuddle. It's all about her...

I don't care if this sounds stupid but my other half and I don't celebrate valentines day. Sure the kid gets cards and candy to bring to school, whatever that's cool. However demanding something because it's a holiday isn't romantic at all.

If we want to do something nice for each other, we just do it - all throughout the year. A little bit here and there goes a lot further than one night a year.

Just a hint with the coupons.

If you receive one- when you use a coupon don't actually hand it over.

If you wait long enough between re-using the coupon your spouse won't realise that you've already used it.

Dinner on our starlit patio with the fountain gently burbeling in the background, then over to the fire in the outside hearth and a bottle of 2007 Cakebread Zinfandel while our collection of classic rock love songs plays softly in the night. We enjoy this luxury as often as possible.

What fuzzypeaches said. For a long time, it was a day to do something for my daughter, but now she's off to TX and married, so she has a "true" Valentine. So now... just another day to watch more commercials about couples oh-so-in-love. Meh.

I am so glad that the corporations in power dedicated a day for us all to be creative and spontaneous in a planned and orderly manner- just like everyone else.

How else could romance prosper.

Interesting that 'fancy dinner' and 'signature on divorce papers' are leading responses.

And too bad that I couldn't choose two responses: 'signature on the divorce papers' along with 'fancy dinner (with new "friend" to celebrate the divorce)'.

This. We have romantic nights on the fly and prefer to be squishy and lovely all the time. But we do exchange cards on Valentine's, then go about our evening as usual.
