My interpretation (which could have been wrong) was that they were calling this was a high end camera based on the price. I was just pointing out that in the world of D-SLR, this is at the bottom - which does NOT mean it's not a good camera. At the high end, you can easily spend $3-4,000 for just a camera body.
Gotchaaa, yeah we are on the same page then.

Just found a camera my self and found the info on this site vary helpful. Review on Digital Camera Info
After watching this site for several months I finally created an account yesterday what with the 4 woot-offs at once, y'know, just in case. I've yet to make a purchase, I'm waiting for...the perfect woot. (and that does not necessarily refer to a Barrels of Crud
Great Camera, my wife has been using one for 3 years now. its also pretty durable since it survives the kids grabbing it sometimes and the accidental drop now and then. Make sure you buy and carry an extra battery though.
Question-Camera people: I am going on an African Safari and am in the market for a DSLR... do you think this is a good camera for that? Or do I need something more sophisticated?
not really a good deal

You need something more Lion-proof.

I'd consider it if I didn't need the autofocus for the kind of photography I do. Plus I think it's adorable how everyone is griping about this being a 3 year old no-frills DSLR when I'm still using a Fuji DSLR from 2002. Granted it's my starter camera, but I decided a while ago to save up and get a D5000 so all my lenses are compatible (also, it's an awesome camera). However, in some parallel universe where I didn't get the Fuji and actually had money, I would have jumped on this deal. The Rebel is absolutely a starter camera and there's nothing wrong with that. Just do the research before you drop that kind of money on something as involved as digital photography. Developing snooty brand preferences comes later.

WiredLlama wrote:"$479 at Walmart. Do you want a high-end camera they sell at Walmart?" is there any logic to this statement? Walmart also sells, xboxs, playstation, Sony TVs, etc.... Apparently, by this logic, all those are garbage.
Exactly. I ate steak last night, should I feel inferior because the walmart near me also sells steak?
Does this come in pink?
Hey does anyone know if Woot ever puts the Barrels of Crud on the WootHome page, because they are having a WootOff too?
bmstile wrote:You need something more Lion-proof.
Perhaps with a 50 pound "LIon" battery?
HellnationThug wrote:Oh and its 50 dollars cheaper
They charge extra fees for shipping insurance though. I wonder how much that would be.

oh jeez- you people are so corney
If I wanted to see cat pics I'd switch tabs to imgur.
Wooted my wootie off during the past 36 hours and have quite an extensive amount of goods that will be rolling in and I have no idea why I purchased them. All in the name of chasing Barrels of Crud

Well excuse me, princess.
C'mon Woot, drop this to $299.99 and let's clear this crap outta here, so we can move on.
Kellyoh1415...sending out an SOS, you still out there in Wootlandia? How did you do it? You must be so bedraggled and just in time... in case Woot offers a Bedazzler.
But you say that about almost everything on Woot.
Wants Nikon on Woot!
Airkat wrote:I was actually about to buy a buddy's used DSLR, but I'd prefer one that did video
fyi, video on a DSLR is nothing like what you are used to with video from Point and shoot/camera phone/handicam/etc. only a few DSLR has autofocus capability for video. with the canon, you have to manually focus the video. so unless you're very good at operating the focus, good luck on anything fast moving.

So, I guess that's out for lion chasing.

sicdigital wrote:The Sony TVs at Walmart (and Target) ARE cheaper/lower quality than elsewhere. Xbox's and PlayStations are the same though...
This is not entirely true, nor entirely flase. Yes, when a lot of brands get into the pricing structure needed to compete in the big dept. stores they demand lower material costs for the items they use to make their tv's so they can build the "same" item for less. This often requires suppliers to lower the quality at some point to keep reducing cost. The problem with your quote is that these parts make their way into all of the brands offerings, including ones sold at all stores. It is still true that the best models a brand may offer might contain slightly superior materials, that is the case with any and all products sold everywhere in the world. There is a reason a Lexus cost more than a Toyota.

Where at?
I bought this camera for my girlfriend last X-mas and she loved it. It is a great intro DSLR and I would say it would work for that but you will need to buy another lens to get pictures of animals further away. http://www.amazon.com/Canon-75-300mm-4-5-6-Telephoto-Cameras/dp/B00004THD0/ Its not expensive and has a pretty nice zoom. Don't expect National Geographic quality but you will have some nice photos to take home with you.
