After you receive your camera, You can find the correct batteries with an auxillary dual power charger for sale on 'auction site'.I have had good luck with these batteries for my various digicams, and you can carry a fully charged spare or 2.

I'm buying one because of the price, pleasing video quality, and the Kodachrome, Ektachrome, & Tri-X effects. The 8X lens (in 14 megapixel mode with cropping later) should extend my reach for wildlife photography. I'll use 6 megapixels the other 95% of the time.

I liked how YouTube videos showed no CCD blooming or blocky noise in daylight. The M583 will be wonderful for my needs, with YouTube's video editor doing stabilization of handheld telephoto scenery.

Like a rat swimming toward a sinking ship, I want one last piece of Kodak history. The company is bankrupt and getting out of the camera business, but they will honor warranties.

BTW, FujiFilm is doing fine, so it is not an industry obsolescence issue. Tech workers should ponder their own own futures observing how Kodak workers were treated.

Really. I'm in healthcare, when I retire I don't have a healthcare package from the Hospital I work for. It's not just Tech workers. People need to take some responsibility for what is going to happen in their future- nothing is ever guaranteed. If a company fails because they can't fund retirement packages, they are denying work for the current population-suddenly that manufacturing gets shipped to China and people wonder why. Kodak is withdrawing the benefits from the retirees who are medicare eligible only. They aren't getting bailed out by the government like the car companies, fannie mae...

I'm glad to see that it comes with a rechargeable battery, but curious about the fact that no AC adapter is mentioned. Does this thing get charged up by plugging the USB cable into your computer or something?

I hope that's not the only charging method.

I suspect you can get an external charger, but these cell last a LONG time under normal use without excessive flash and excessive reviewing. I did buy a spare cell, which I think is a good idea.

Try to use the camera, but look up and learn to use the exposure control +/- to help with spotlit scenes.

I don't know much about video, but I do know about audio: experiment with putting something like cloth or the center of a band-aid over the mic to attenuate the levels. May work, may not!

Kodak is not going away, and who can say what they will do in the future, post reorganization.
Nobody knows what direction photography is going, especially when Nokia announced a 41 (yes, forty-one) MP camera in a PHONE. Kodak may be smart to dump cameras.

I got one of these last time around and really don't like it. There's no image stabilization and even in bright light conditions it is difficult to get a sharp image. There are no controls for the audio while shooting video and it won't refocus while shooting. This is not a camera for photographers, either, as all the settings are icon based and difficult or impossible to access (I still can't find how to increase the shutter speed when pictures are too bright which was very easy on my last Nikon). It's probably great for someone that wants to do all the editing and stuff on the camera and then upload via wi-fi, but I don't so the one feature most people will like I don't even use.

That's called no longer being competitive in a growing market.

Kodak's primary market was film, and there's no profit to be had in film anymore.

1)http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/750189-REG/Kodak_8627630_Easy_Share_M583_Black.html

This is a complete digital camera--1280 x 720p HD video with sound, digital image stabilization, a bright 3" LCD monitor, 22 creative scene modes, up to 1600 ISO for low-light pictures are all part of the package.

2)People and reviews are saying it takes great pictures. I'm thinking either your camera is defective or you are not the great photographer you thought you were.

3)With shipping this is a $75 camera. So make your expectations realistic to that price point. If you think you are Steve McCurry, then buy a camera that suits you.

4)This is designed to be a simple point and shoot. If you can't find the scene mode that works to compensate for shutter speed, then buy a camera that has this manual adjustment- this camera does not.

Please just keep in mind that even if Kodak has in the last ten years had a foreign company make a decent camera for it to sell, it is now in bankruptcy and quiting the camera business and you can expect no support for this camera.

Usually, they need to honor the support offered at the time of sale as part of their legal obligations. Kodak is planning to get out from bankruptcy, so they still will be around in some form. I truly hope they do not sell the KODAK logo to some cheesy camera company making really crummy cameras. http://www.acpress.com/KODAK_RIP.html

I hear you, but like me, you need to understand that photography is changing. The "photographers" you I think of knew all about f/stops, shutter speeds and how they work to make an image.

But that kind of technique is essentially the same as Matthew Brady used during the Civil War! For a lot of people, they say "let the machine do the work!"

There will always be room for Ansel Adams types, but even more room for Andy Warhol image makers. In my book, I get out the crystal ball and predict the whole idea of the "decisive moment" to snap will go away. We'll soon do high speed video, freeze frame it and go from there. It's sad for some of us, but also liberating in many other ways.

This is the closest comparison I could find, but it is for the slightly lesser model the kodak M580. The Kodak M583 is similar but it also includes macro shooting and auto-focus assist illuminator, the video format is also better because it is H.264.

Um... No. More and more companies have made it evident that I should stop being dedicated to a specific brand. I guarantee you that they are not interested in you. They don't give a crap about you. They just want your money. Having a warranty of any sorts doesn't say that they care about you... It just says that they are trying to compete with the other guy and are trying to adhere to laws.

Who can afford to be supportive of just one specific brand or one specific store? Who can afford to only accept the sales available at one grocery store and ignore the others? Sorry, but with the corporate greed today, I don't play their games.

And no... I'm not one of the 99%.

Micro SDs do the exact same thing as the regular sized cards. The only difference is that they have the versatility to be able to be used in cellphones as well, and other such smaller devices. The problem is that if you are going to use it in something that uses a regular sized SD card, you have to use a converter.

What kind of DSLR and lenses do you have? If it's anything moderately good, why would you ever choose a point and shoot over it?
