So, we're "kickstarting" a project with this woot?

I have this camcorder and I love everything about it, It has never given us any trouble and it works great in all lighting

Woot pulled a Leap Day joke on all of us. Here we are expecting something special and all we get is another Video Camera.

At least this Video Camera is a new one, not a refurb.

I click "I want one" hoping to donate $5 like the description said but there's no option for that, just a overpriced 720p camera

Woot is just a disappointment now. All it is is JVC and Kodak, disgustingly old looking devices with even worse specs. 720p, come on. We are not children here. Crappy batteries with terrible reviews. On BATTERIES? Come on Woot. You were once better than this. At least have something fun instead of trying to make a cheap dollar on some garbage products.

Come on guys, Woot! built it's bones as a site that was supposed to be unpredictable and not care (on the outside at least). Just because it is leap year, you are expecting a Barrels of Crud or the finish of the horrible woot off of past. Just because Amazon has control of the monkey shock collars does not mean the basis and heart of Woot! is gone. Consider this disappointment a reach back to the good old days and look upon it with nostalgia.

Wondering what the price would be to add the Square Trade Warranty on to this purchase option?

I bought a JVC Everio off Woot! a little more than a month ago, if I'm remembering dates correctly, and I love it. It doesn't have flash memory, or some of the connections, but it's mostly the same.

The frame rate is terrible, so when you go to edit a video and slow it down, it appears pretty dang choppy, but otherwise it's awesome. I think it was a great deal for the video quality. If you'll be shooting some home videos, 720p is fine (though I personally can tell a difference, it's just not a big deal), and the 40x zoom is amazing and convenient.

Sound capture works *fine*. It's mono-capture for mine, didn't look up the exact specs on this one to see if it was stereo or not. But it picks up clearly and mostly sounds exactly like what you were hearing at the moment.

I'd say go for it if you're looking for something to make home videos on.

I stopped reading at "unpredictable".

The past four days have been batteries, a Kodak camera, an SD card, and some garbage video camera. I don't even WANT a Barrels of Crud any more, I want unpredictability. Tomorrow will be something along the lines of the trash we've seen (and are now used to).

Here's some Tech News on this one and the HM30.

I have the GZ-HM30 model (from woot a while back). It is a decent camcorder. I don't know how these two models compare, but I absolutely dislike the camcorder's on-screen software. e.g., navigation, deleting files, etc. Otherwise for this price it is a decent model. The 40x optical zoom is pretty neat. Do a youtube search for some nice demos of the zoom.

Woot, why must you torment me? First I stay up late hoping for a Leap Barrels of Crud then you offer me a camera and a happy face pancake pan? It's bad enough the gestating being inside me kicks all my organs, but now I'm going to be kept up all night trying to decide how badly my older child needs a happy face pancake and wishing I knew anything about cameras so I could also worry about how badly I need a camera for impending alien chest-bursting birth #2?

I'm not hormonal, I swear. Not at all.

apparently it is more profitable to sell high ticket items with a smaller profit margin on the shipping than it is to sell low priced interesting impulse buys with larger profit margins on shipping... Too bad cuz as awoot Skippy Squirrel the site was very hyped up by friends and its becoming a struggle to feel woot has lived up said hype

That being said I'll continue to give woot a fighTing chance at least till I'm back to work from recouping. Please live up to the hype woot please pretty itty pleasers
