Just email the Woot Wizards (staff) and they'll fix it.

That one is nice actually, a friend of mine has that one. The only issue with that one is putting the unit in and removing it with the dock connector. Once it is in, it is solid though!

Latest rumors suggest a possible change in the docking connector, meaning that all previous accessories will be defunct.

Seems like a pretty drastic move on Apple's part, but with the iPhone 5 coming out later this year needing as much internal space as it can get, a new smaller connector announced now would make sense if they were going to change it at all.

At any rate, don't bet on this being iPad 3 compatible. It might be, but it's possible that it won't be.

iPads need 5v at 2a (10 watts), while smaller devices need the 5v at 1a (5 watts) to charge quickly. iPad will charge, ever soooo slowwwwwly, on 5 watt charger, but better and faster on 10 watt. Hope this helps...

coolbana wrote:I'm guessing than it will NOT charge my iPad 1st gen, because the output is 5V and iPad needs 10 to charge. iPods and iPhones charge on 5 v, but not the iPad. Just talked myself out of this.

The iPad charges on 5V just like the Pods and Phones. However, it requires a higher amperage, 2.0A to be precise, which is 10W.

The output from the supplied wall wart is 5V @3A which = 15W and that's more than adequate for an iPad.

So yes, it will both play and charge an iPad 1 or 2.

Wait, the maker's website says:

ARS13
Docking Station for iPad, iPhone, and iPod
It's never been easier to get more sound from your iPad, iPhone, or iPod. Just dock it and enjoy! The ARS13 offers rich, detailed audio from a compact design that fits almost anwhere.

  • Perfect for home or office: simple, secure docking and undocking
  • Compact amplified speaker design
  • Charges your iPod, iPhone, and iPad
  • Compatible with iPhone 4 and iPad 2
  • Audio line-in (3.5mm)

So does it, or does it not, have audio line-in?

I hate to ask this, since there are so many posts, but I've read the Would you like to take a survey? and didnt see the answer.

does it work for the regular old iPad?

No iPad 2, or anything else... just the iPad.

The Amazon write-up seems to say it does, but the woot write up doesn't have iPad on the compatibility list.

I have an iPod Touch, iPhone 4, and most recently an iPod Nano (6th Gen) on an iWatchz band. However, I only see myself using this with the iPod Nano. The other two devices I prefer to use with video, either in landscape or with the HDMI adapter.

I'd love to have a dock that can hold the device upright in portrait, use the HDMI adapter cable, and charge the device, but not even Apple's own iPhone 4 dock can do that: HDMI video won't pass through.

So the only thing I have to decide is how many rooms do I want one of these in? I won't be using one at work without a headphone jack.

Meanwhile, the Cy.Fi speaker Woot has sold before works really well, apart the dongle dislodging a little from the iPod Nano and some latency starting transmission after starting playback on the device, good for use in the shower, bike, or walking around the house.

GASP! The docking station does NOT have a miniplug socket? I had TRUSTED the folks at Woot to KNOW what they were talking about! I am SHOCKED and HORRIFIED at this OUTRAGEOUS BLUNDER!! After raising my hopes with FALSE CLAIMS and OUTRIGHT LIES, I find that I cannot use this device with my iPhone 4. Huh? What's that? It only affects those poor souls with Androids? Ummmmmm. Never mind.

OK, I've read the posts but still can not figure something out.
Will it play audio through the built in speaker even though there is no line in (3.5mm) jack? Or, is this just a stand up charger with a useless speaker?
Sorry if I'm a little bit slow.

You're overthinking this.
It's a stand up charger with a useful speaker that gets its input from the iPad/Pod/Phone that's attached to the dock connector.

mliddekee wrote:Do any of these actually let you use a case on your iPad and plug it in? I've yet to find one for my iPhone that lets me use it and leave my Otterbox connected. It's like all these manufacturers expect no one to have cases on their devices.

Yeah that is why you don't get a stupid Otterbox. God I hate those cases with a passion. Not only are they huge, bulk, awkward overkill they prevent you from using basically ANY accessory. Get a Magpul case, the best case I have seen, sleek, perfect fit and no added bulk. Plus it pops off real easy just in case your accessory does not fit with the case.

It plays through the multi pin Apple connection on the bottom of the device. This port is the sound, the data port and the power port.

The only downside to this item is that it does not address the technical description of 'stereo'. Going to the AR site there are no technical specifications and no discussion of monaural or of stereo. For the price a good monaural speaker that plays my music and charges my iPhone or iPod touch will probably be acceptable but I would have been more excited if this unit was actually a stereo amp with two speakers.

The iPhone 4S has the EXACT same body as the iPhone 4, and very little difference in software (except the addition of Siri). I would be extremely surprised if a device that claims to be compatible with the iPhone 4 were not compatible with the 4S.

mjc05 wrote:It doesn't say anything about iPhone 4S in the specs. I have seen a few of these portable speakers that, for some reason, have issues with the 4S. Maybe it's just a typo here, but its something to think about.

Otterboxes ARE bulky, but not overkill, when the user surface of your phone is fragile glass. I had one iPhone that got smashed (inside a leather case, and I have no idea how - fortunately it was two years old, and I was already considering an upgrade), and the next one got a nick in the glass after just 2 weeks, even though I was keeping it in the padded leather case and taking exceptionally good care of it. Had the current phone in its Otterbox for almost two years, and not a ding on the phone, despite several chips in the case. Well worth it to protect my toy.

Yup, my iPad 1 lives in an Otterbox Defender, which is a combination of hard and soft protection and a screen protector.
It's been left on the car roof and fallen at speed, fallen out of a window, got dropped down stairs, and dropped many times onto a hard floor or concrete.

I can't say the Otterbox is looking too good these days, although it's still doing its job perfectly, but when you remove the iPad from the case it looks as perfect as when it was first unboxed.
