They are a great vacuum when they work, but they have a design flaw where the wires to the brush motor short out because of the pull on the wires from the extreme angles of the ball mechanism. Which is why there are a ton of refurbished ones around.

I bought one few months ago off woot. Works great but it certainly is heavy. So if you can live with the weight then this is worth it.

can anyone tell me in a simple way what the difference in the "animal" is compared to the "all floors"?? thanks.

My Dyson DC25 lasted about 15 minutes. Then it stopped working and I looked around to find two bizarre vacuum parts lying on the floor. I photographed them and sent them to Dyson, which only recognized one of them. They offered to let me send it in for repair, but I took this as a very bad sign and just took it back to Target. Eventually I got a Roomba and we are living happily ever after. For deep cleaning I use my ridiculously heavy but very effective all-metal construction 30-year old Royal.

I was so "sold" on the merits of the Dyson "supervac" line that I actually gave her the machine as her primary birthday gift. Needless to say, she was non-plussed. She acted as if I'd ignored her special day. A few months later, in desperation, she finally broke down and used the Dyson to vacuum our carpet and tile floor. She melted. "I'm so ashamed!" she gushed. Ever since that day, I've been acknowledged at Patriot Place, our humble abode on Lake Travis, as the clairvoyant (or however you spell that) when it comes to vacuums. I rewarded her praises with a Dyson ball (or is it Ball?) at Christmas when the first Dyson had about five years on its odometer. Now we gleefully vacuum the place spotless from two unique points - simultaneously!!!

The Animal has an extra turbine head that attaches to the wand to allow pet hair cleanup. Otherwise, they're more or less the same.

I bought a Dyson on a previous Woot and love it. It's a refurb and I haven't had any issues. I didn't feel like schlepping it up and down the steps, not because of the weight, I'm just lazy, so I bought a Hoover for the downstairs. It's not a bad vacuum but it can't compare to a Dyson. Ordered another Dyson today.

I bought this from woot a few years ago (also refurbished) and it has been a great vacuum. It lives up the hype and the ball makes it go around things so much easier than a normal vacuum. I know it is still alot of money for a vaccum, but you won't be disappointed.

I know there are mixed reviews on this site regarding the Dyson. It's been stated that it's expensive, cheaply built, and a bit gimmicky given the "ball technology." However, some of its merits are its light weight, power, and maneuverability. I weighed those with some cheaper Hoovers on Amazon. Comparably, those Hoovers were heavier, larger, and not as easy to maneuver. They did get good reviews, though.

We've needed a new vacuum for awhile now. I finally decided to jump onboard the Dyson hype train and give it a shot with today's Woot. If it doesn't pan out this time, I'll just go back with a good Hoover next time.

We've also had this for almost 3 years now, and it's by far the best vacuum I've used. Washable filters are awesome. Never had any static issues. Picks up hair great, though if it's a woman's hair, you'll be cleaning the brushes every so often. Lastly, the design is just so cool, to an engineer like me (wait til you see the box it's packed in!)

I jumped on the Dyson bandwagon today. I've been considering one for quite some time now and this price isn't too bad to give one a try.

Wish so many people on here wouldn't treat those Consumer Report reviews like the bible, because they aren't. So many of their top rated products have horrible user reviews.

But then again....you know what they say about opinions and that's just what all these reviews are.

Forget the Dyson or any other vac. Get a whole house vacuum system - no worries about HEPA or any other type of filters as the machine sits in the garage or basement. Mine is in the garage and is great for the cars, but is so loud that I have to use ear protection. Had a Dyson, but the whole house system simply blows (or should I say sucks) it away and it picks up what the Dyson did not without beating the hell out of your carpets.

My son is a vacuum fanantic and we've owned over 25 vacuums of all vintages and makes. I agree with Miele being the best of the best -- super engineering, very well-built, quiet. Dysons are pretty loud, so wear ear protection.

headp wrote:Darn it Woot! Just bought this new on Sunday with my 20% coupon from Bed Bath & Beyond. I would have liked a color choice. That pink ball is begging for some breast cancer research donations. So far we are impressed with it's performance. The air was cleaner afterwards and the house didn't smell like I had just vacuumed. Also like the design of the extended reach tools, very innovative. It's the Apple/Bose of Vacuums.

I feel your pain. After debating between the DC25 and the DC24, I got the DC24 (a bit smaller and cheaper than the DC25)and used my BBB 20% off coupon, 3 weeks ago. I would've loved getting the red one.

It's $299 there and it's a 3 year warranty....not 5 years (2 1/2 years is from them after the 6 month factory warranty ends).

Sorry, I can't afford a few thousand dollars for a whole house system, nor would I waste money on one even if I could.

These posts wander all over the place. This is exact experience with a woot purple refurb. They are shipped factory fresh. I wonder if they over produced them and as older, they are actually new and sold as refurbished?

I unboxed the baby to be delighted with Strong Suction, light weight, ease of use and very useful features like the wand extension. Yeah, they're good and it runs quiet on hardwood and rugs. We have two cats. This vac assaults the hair! All this no suction talk is crazy. Maybe Mr. Dyson has a couple gimmicks to market this baby but he has sold plenty-O-units.

Just buy it right and shuddddd-up.

people tend to not care for thier vacuums as they do their other possesions. refurbs insue.
Similar to how someone installs a thousand toolbars on thier laptop and get a new one beause thier old one was "running slow"

Wow, I received mine on Friday, March 9. That is by far the shortest wait I have ever had for a Woot order. The vac appears to be 100% as-new, and it has completely blown me away with its ease of use and the amount of crap it has pulled from my carpets. Yes, using the hose is a bit wonky, but overall I am very, very pleased.

Received mine today. I can't really say that it sucks any better than my old Hoover, but it is certainly more usable for me. The Hoover is a great machine, but it is just way too heavy at 27 lbs, and not nearly as maneuverable. I'm very pleased with the Dyson. I vacuumed the whole house with it. The last couple of years with the Hoover, I've only done a room at a time, then a couple days to let my back recuperate, then another room . . .
