I remember participating a bit in one of the Previous Woot! disccusions which talked a lot about Alkaline vs. NiMH rechargeables including goatcrapp's response comparing mah between the two.

rlw99 summarized that these are good for low drain devices like remote controls, mice, computer keyboards when compared to normal non hybrid NiMH and Lithium which are more suited to high power quick drain devices like digital cameras.

I recommended a LaCrosse Smart battery charger, which speedshark quickly pointed out IS NOT compatible with alkaline batteries (but it is by far one of the best chargers for all other types). Later is was made clear, DO NOT USE ANOTHER BATTERY CHARGER to charge these!

jj2me has a nice list of personal experience pro's and cons with alkaline type batteries.

liteup had a great post with general rechargeable battery advice, but didn't like these.

Some were disappointed when they received the batteries and expected them to work in their cameras, even though many posts stated they are not for use in high drain devices like digital cameras.

I picked up two of these (2 chargers, 16 batteries) last time they were up here. The batteries seem to last decently long in my devices.

The charger seems to be nicer than most chargers, in that it shuts off each of the four individual slots independently when that one battery is charged. Also, this is mentioned in the description but worth mentioning here since it's one of my favorite features: the charger can charge rechargeable alkalines (like these) or NiMH (just not both at the same time).

Do these have soy or something in them? What's with the leaf that's imprinted on them?

If the power goes out when you are charging the batteries, the batteries can temporarily keep the charger going!

The logo of the company iGo green. They tend to make products that use less energy then normal products of its make and model.

Anyone know how these fare for Xbox controllers and such? I really need some good rechargeable batteries, but I remember the last time Woot sold these people were talking about them melting and such. Any thoughts?

Great for the Wii. Holds a charge better then the cheap 40 pack generic brand batteries, and doesnt take long to charge. Will definitely save you money over time.

yes. probably work better due to the 1.5v vs. 1.2v in the nimh

How good are these? I'll be using them for remotes, a weather radio as backup if power goes out and maybe my thermostat. Good price and would it be worth getting two or over kill. Not sure I need more than 16 batteries but close. 14 for sure

This guy managed to save 300 dollars a year with rechargables

He includes digital cameras (which these batteries aren't meant to be used with) but using this guys math if you have a wireless keyboard and mouse this should pay for itself in less than a year.

wait- does that make me an egghead?

Edit: I got a quality post, but I'd like to restate that he includes digital cameras in the estimate. You'd Probably look at around 150-200 dollars without them.

Needless to say it still pays for itself very quickly!

Does anyone have any experience using these in game cameras out in the cold weather? if so, how long do they last?

zig503

quality posts: 2 Private Messages zig503

Bought a set last time these came up on Woot and I've been using them for just about everything around the house and haven't had any problems with them. They last decently long for most my gadgets (have to charge them maybe once a week if I have long gaming sessions). I use them in my xbox controllers, TV remote, remote control helicopter, flashlight, and a portable speaker system for my iPhone. And the charger is the best charger I have personally owned. Most the ones I had before this either only charged the batteries for a set time limit (so you never knew if they were fully charged or maybe even charged after a few hours but didn't know until it was done) or only charged the batteries if you were charging a set of batteries (2 or 4). This charger will charge a single battery or up to 4 and will indicate when each individual battery is fully charged.
If you are looking for a few extra rechargeable batteries for around the house you're not going to find much better of a deal if any.
OK I'm done rambling now.

No, they will not work well because solar lights most likely use rechargeable nimh or nicad and these are rechargeable alkaline and shouldn't be charged with anything other than the included charger.

I can't say for certain how long they last, but it was stated above they're good for low-drain devices, rather than high-drain devices. Digital cameras are high-drain, so you'll probably want to go with NiMH rechargeables or something similar instead.

NO don't use these in your solar devices, these batteries need the special charger that they come with. The NiMH batteries aren't as sensitive to how they get charged.

Why aren't these meant for a digital camera. I was going to buy them for my mom for her digital camera, but now I want to know why I shouldn't.

Wooted a bunch of these in January. Great as batteries, not so good at reanimating the dead. Now I understand.

No, these are rechargeable alkalines, not meant for use in high-drain devices like cameras and flashes.

Eneloops are NiMH which are far better for those type of electronics.

As many have said already, use these in slow-drain items like remotes (tv, Wii) wireless mice & keyboards, etc.

This is a really good price. I purchased some of these a few months ago to replace the rechargeable batteries in some of my electronics. They work well. (I was thinking that I had replaced my solar walkway light batteries with these, but I hadn't...wrong purchase.)

These are made for low load items like Clocks, remotes, game controllers, kids toys, and wireless computer gear.

Digicams *love* the taste of battery blood and have no control so unless it's lithium ion they just suck right through those bad boys in minutes.
The Tim has it and likes the shut-off for each charge slot and that it can charge alkalines & NiMH.
Whoa whoa whoa, it does not charge alkalines - it only charges rechargeable alkalines. I don't think you want people reading that and thinking they can shove in their standard batteries to charge them because bad things will happen.

[THUNDERTHIGHS: Fixed! Thank you!]

Patented technology make these the only rechargeable alkaline batteries available
Um, no.

It's an okay deal, but I'd suggest going with NiMH batteries for your rechargeables(Eneloop, other "ready to use" rechargeables) instead because you can charge those in pretty much any charger.

You'd be pretty disappointed - Eneloops are NiMH, not rechargeable alkaline, and AIUI they don't have anywhere the energy density or rapid recovery of the Eneloops. As others have mentioned, these are better in low-drain applications.

My experience with rechargeable alkalines also includes a bunch of them leaking during recharging, and I've heard of others having them leak during use as well.

My advice is, for that application, stick with the Eneloops or other reliable LSD NiMH's.
