Bought two of these in a Wootoff. One of the batteries was DOA--will not charge at all in either charger. So you might not be getting 8 working batteries in this deal.

MichaelSF wrote:In for three. These are similar in concept to the eneloop batteries by Sanyo.

The unique feature of Sanyo that a fully charged battery does not discharge at the rate that regular nickel metal hydride batteries discharge. You can put these in a flashlight, into the glove box and a year later the light will still work. Can't do that with regular rechargeable.

Also, my eneloop batteries are 8 for about $20+.

Yes, in concept, similar. Green. but wait a minute...

In practice, these iGo batteries do NOT compare to Eneloops. The Eneloops are worth the added cost, and there is dominant advantage in high demand or heavy use.

The Eneloop battery has tremendous advantage over these, it can be recharged literally thousands of times, it will hold charge for a year or more, and it will deliver the full 2,000 mA charge at either high or low current without ill effect.

The "rechargeable" alkaline can't do that...
-less than 1% the number of charge cycles under optimum conditions
-delivery of only about 20% of the instant current
-limited to only 50% of the rated capacity to maintain charging ability

Also, the nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery does not leak its chemistry and damage the device to near the extent of the alkaline type.

See:
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/will_the_reusable_alkaline_battery_have_a_future

Sanyo Eneloops are not the only "low self discharge" NiMH, but they are the best. Although comparatively expensive, they are so much better in heavy use and repeated recharge that their life cycle cost is very low if you really plan to use them.

Some of these batteries are sold as "pre-charged" referring to the fact that they can be charged at the factory, and still have capacity when they are on the retail shelf. Until this newer type was developed, the NiMH battery would normally need charging before initial use, as they lose about 1% of the charge per day.

Ignore the above comment. There is NO COMPARISON to eneloops, which are much better NiMh cells that are engineered to hold their charge longer. This idea is failed technology that was tried by major makers about 10 years ago and then dropped from the market.

I purchased these here on a previous woot. I have used them in a digital camera, wireless keyboard, mouse, remote controls. They seem to work just fine. When they get low, I just charge them up and go on. They seem to hold a good charge. I use them in a Fuji 16M Digital SLR camera. They last for around 50 16M pixel pictures. But I have a extra set to swap. Not sure how they would last in lower resolution. Not a bad price for batteries and charger.

Despite certain typographical errors in the manual to your iGo charger, it may not be used for reanimating cadavers. We apologize for any misunderstanding....

That would be crazy, right? What kind of well-meaning company would risk the potential shareholders’ abandon-ship by dabbling in such a ridiculous undertaking?

O_o I see what you did there.

These are great for low drain devices like remotes, keyboard, Wii remotes, etc. These are all items where the Rechargable alkaline batteries' low self-discharge is appreciated

They are probably not as good as newer NiMH batteries in high drain devices. (Cameras and flashes).

For folks interested in high drain applications, look for modern NiMH batteries as "low self discharge" or even "pre charged", which sort of implies a lower self discharge rate.

Ugh... Mallory came out with this when they owned Duracell in the late 1960's. They work... kinda. You CANNOT let them fully discharge, the recharge capacity deteriorates quickly after each charge, they just aren't worth the work or attention they require to get more than 10 recharges out of them.
You are best to buy rechargeables of today's technology.

Now.. My experience.

I bought 2 sets (16 batteries) and have been happy with them in Wii remotes.

Now, on the other hand, The inductive charge rechargeable contraptions Woot sold last week are junk and at 2.4V 500mAH, they are about 1/5 of a modern alkaline/rerewable alkaline. They barely hold a charge, and I lost a life in Mario as a result (jumped right in a hole).

For high current applications (digital cameras, speedlite flashes), Get modern NiMH batteries that are "precharged" and/or "low self discharge". Don't worry about 2000mAH vs 2500mAH unless you are using them in RC cars.

Use your old (dead in a week) NiMH batteries in electric razors, radios, sex toys, kids toys, etc. Things you can recharge frequently.

EDIT: Regardless, I'm in for 3 more sets. Wii balance board needs 4 and have coworkers that might want some.

OK this deal does kind of suck and you can buy and bulk and get alot cheaper but I need another charger anyone. I currently have have bunch of nihms but can't keep a set of 4 of AA and AAA charged at the same time since I only have the once charger.

I like the fact you can charge one battery at a time. It seems like my keyboard, weather radio take 3 batteries. With other chargers you have to charge two at a time and then I always seen to have an odd man out.

After reading all the comments, I'm in for one. Even if I only get 3-4 uses out of each battery, I'm still saving money. The better deal for me is the charger: I can get some NiMH to charge in it, and any combo of AA or AAA? I use both, so it's a deal for me.

To the post that got pulled...

If you want to ensure it works when pulled out of the drawer, then the low self discharge is a good thing.

However, If you have a high current device and intend to run it often and until dead, might want to grab NiMHs.

And if you want up to a 10 year shelf life, just buy alkalines on sale for $.25 - $.35 per cell (Walgreens brand, Cosco, etc.). To me, this is just a better way to go all around. Cost per watt, alkalines are a much better value than this.

I also think convienience should have a value as well. This system requires overnight charging (minimum) as well.

Spend the money on the Eneloops. They are amazing, and blow the rest of them out of the water for any application. They hold their charge so long it's almost like not having rechargeables. I have been using rechargeables for many years, and Eneloop are the King!

Bought these back in January and so far: they work great in remotes and wii controlers, I have used them in my digital camera and they work but only as well as a good non rechargable alkaline, I change out remote batteries once every two weeks and if I notice the charger deems them charged I pull them out. I have had good luck so far but have only had them for 2 months I can't tell how many cycles I will get from the batteries but so far I can say they are better to use than throwing away several sets of non rechagables. Also as stated in earlier posts the charger is great, charges these and other rechargables quickly and with seperate circuits.

People, instead of asking all these questions, just google the item, with the word "review" (not in quotes) and see what you find. Also, Amazon is a good place to check reviews for these, or most any item for sale on Woot. Generally speaking the Woot price is a good one, but the quality of items being sold can vary. I always do a review search before buying here. Got apps? get the Woot app!

I need to fact check my blogs before I post them!

After using re-chargeable NiMh batteries for years in my strobes they have saved me thousands of $$$ as I can use a set of 4 with about 2000mA for several years and a hundred or so charges. In 2005 a low self-discharge NiMH battery (LSD), which stays charged for much longer, was developed but still self-discharge very fast. Older ones can discharge in just a few days so I need to be on my toes about checking to see how old the charge is.. as my job requires my photo equipment to always have plenty of power.

These are Re-chargeable Alkaline's mAH and can only be charged up to 20 times BUT they can hold their charge for up to seven years.. or so they say? So these type would be ideal for back-ups that might sit around for a while without a charge.
