Ours runs on ceramic tile and carpet to clean the dining, living and kitchen areas. We have 5 cats and the neato does a great job running 3X a week. It really picks up the pet hair and dust.

Does this work on split brick floors?

My house is 80% split brick floors, 10% big tile and 10% hardwood.

No carpet but, dust bunnies everywhere.

This will be the best $300 you will ever spend.

I have 4 cats (daughter moved home with 2) and a long haired dog and this has changed my life. Vacuuming every day keeps the dust down. Really. True you have to get out the ole Electrolux to go around the baseboards about once a week and behind doors but there are no big wads of fur that used to swirl into corners. Really. And because it is doing the vacuuming, I can get out the steamer and do the bathroom floors and kitchen. And I am using the wood floor cleaner more often and the pad is not crammed with fur.

Another plus. Because it runs every day, things don't get left on the floor like newspapers, socks, shoes, so my house is tidier than ever!

"Neo" is my favorite thing ever right behind my iPhone and BMW Z3. Really.

This little guy is fantastic. I still giggle when I see it figure out how to go over a bump or spin a tight circle around a table leg. It's like having a slow, dumb dog with negative shedding.

Yep, works on anything, and buffs hardwood to a nice shine.

I agree. Owned this for about 2 years. Love it. Run it twice a week Mon and Fri and hour before I leave for work. Nice clean carpets when I get back home.

I have had my Neato for about two months now (maybe less) and it did suck up a little toy mouse. No damage, just pulled it out and sent Neato on its merry way.

I say go for it!

We bought our Neato in the last Woot and I love it. A few things I have noticed that might help other Wooters thinking about getting one:

1. It picks up a great deal of dust and fine particles plus cat hair. None of us in the house have long hair so I can not comment on that but I do see human hair in the bin when I empty it so it is picking up what we humans are shedding too.

2. Ours has picked up small cat toys and a Lego or two. No damage to the machine, but it will stop and tell you that it is stuck.

3. There is a transition between wood floor and tile in our house that I thought would be too high for Neato to get over but it makes the transition with no problem.

4. Our Neato picks up small bits of kitty litter and dry cat food as well as bits of food left on the floor by the kids.

5. I have it set to clean at night while we are sleeping and we don't hear much upstairs. I do hear it start up (Jet engine sound) but after it gets going I don't notice it.

6. Our cat stalked it for the first week but now he leaves it alone.

7. We have mats by the front door that have deep grooves. Neato does not really do a great job on these as I find that there is still a lot of stuff trapped in the grooves.

8. We do put all the dining room chairs and kitchen stools up so Neato can get under tables and counters. Though I did forget a few times and it seemed to go around things well.

Overall I find that we are very happy with our Neato purchase. I have noticed that we keep things tidy because we know that Neato will be cleaning at night.

FYI for anyone with a 500-series Roomba and unsatisfied with the capacity and hair tangling on the brushes: the Aerovac bin upgrade is well worth the money! It holds more than the stock bin, and has better suction so the hair doesn't get stuck on the rollers.

My wife got it for us for Christmas, and if it wasn't for that, I'd probably be buying this Neato right now. We have a dog that sheds a lot and after the upgrade, the Roomba can finally get all the hairballs before filling up and just dragging them around on the rollers.

MVH wrote:You have to take the filter off to empty the dust bin and I just ran hot water over mine to clean it and it dried without getting distorted. So for the third cleaning I have put the first filter back in while the second one dries. I think it cleans great. It's unbelievable what comes out of the dust bin with three dogs and two cats. It doesn't do well along the edge of a thick-pile rug but that takes a second to catch up and I'm figuring in another three or four days, it will have done a good enough job overall that won't be as big a problem. I like the flexible, plastic strips that are "brushes". They send a bunch of replacements so it doesn't tear up your carpets or scratch your floors.

I usually use my upright's hose attachment to vacuum off the filter, was afraid of wetting it, but since its not a hepa filter I guess that doesn't matter? Anyway, I read on Neato's website somewhere to use your regular vacuum to clean the filter, and this has worked very well for us.

LOVE our neato!

There is a chance. When I got mine the first time they ran this they drop-shipped them the day I purchased it...had it a few days later via FED-EX ground.

So you're saying there is no need to wait for the more expensive model since this is the same except for the brush and filter which you can upgrade later?

JRuegg wrote:Neato is introducing the XV-21 in April. It's supposed to have a better brush and filter for pet hair.

From the article, it sounds like the XV-11s and 12s can utilize the new filters and brush after a firmware update.

I really wish Woot! could sell me some classic robot lawnmowers. I can't seem to find any robomower for less than $1200 nowadays. Woot! used to sell an earlier model for less than $200!

I don't need a Cadillac, I just want a robot that enjoys mowing the lawn for me... until he gets tired of it and enslaves me to do it for him.

I always laughed at these things and considered them a novelty act for rich people. Then I realized rich people have maids. Because of the reviews and reports of great customer service, in for one.

On another note, Pat Bowlen and John Elway are currently on their way to Durham, NC, in Pat's private jet. They are cruising at 36,500 feet and 425 knots. By the time I get home, I hope they have signed Peyton Manning to be a Denver Bronco. If that happens, I will "Tebow" for the first time, then celebrate by vacuuming the floor and opening one of my Woot wines!

As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.

Lots of good helpful comments here ,much appreciated and thx .

We have a 3+yr old Roomba 560 with the upgraded bin and newly replaced Tenergy battery (Tenergy battery last 2 full hrs) .The 560 still works great (better than when new) , but cleaning the rollers (from long cat hair) is always a pain and a big part of why I'd be interested in the Neato (and the fact it has upgradeable firmware) .

So after reading all these Neato comments , Iam really leaning towards one .

Buying here on Woot would save me $58 over Costco ($30+ $28 in Calif tax).

We have a Roomba (bought on Woot) and just bought the Neato a month ago at Target. The Roomba does great in the room where the cat's litter is, but it is dumb and has no sense of where it has been or where it is going.

The Neato is fun to watch, as it does a loop then, after mapping the room, begins to clean intelligently. Plus, it has great suction. It is scary how much hair and dust it gets up in our master bedroom after only several days of not being run (small chihuaha).

It does great on tile, hardwood, and carpet.

Both the Roomba and Neato serve their purpose well. For the best bang for your buck, buy the Neato. If you want to save money and have to run it more often to actually get everything, buy a Roomba.

I purchased one of these from Woot about 6 weeks ago. I must say it's the coolest appliance I've ever owned. Works great, plug & play.... and somehow finds dirt and dust in an otherwise spotless home. Pick one up, I highly recommend this robot . oh, btw... this same item was $425.00 over at Amazon on the day I ordered mine. It's a great deal at only $299.

Yep. It's aware of doorways. It rolls up to them, notices them, and then files it away. After it's done with the current room, it goes to the doorway and starts on whatever it finds on the other side. Watching the pathfinding is much more fun than you can imagine.

WAAAAAAY better than my Roomba, which is now relegated to the second floor. Now I'm just waiting for Roomba's "drop-off" sensor to fail, then Neato can vacuum up its little bits and pieces too - Mwaa-Ha-Haaaa!

I'd buy another if I thought I actually needed it, but Neato is handling the entire first floor (like 2000 ft.^2) just fine.

Regarding the 3 foot on sides space requirement for the docking station...

Our Neato lives under a nightstand in our bedroom, next to a platform bed, with less than one foot on one side (3+ feet on other side and front). It doesn't seem to be bothered by that. It just backs in neatly between the legs of the nightstand and parks (and charges) out of sight.

While this doesn't match the manual, I would experiment if you are space challenged.

I bought one of these the last time they were on woot. It has been a great product and I would recommend it to anyone. It is surprisingly powerful and keeps me from having to vacuum. It works well on hardwood, tile, and even on my carpet. If I had enough money, I would buy one for each floor of my house.

Got this in the Wootoff a few weeks ago. First unit was DOA (started to spin up the motor, then shut down...and reported a dead battery despite a 12-hour charge).

Customer support couldn't have been any better. They asked where I bought, I told them I got it from Woot -- they said no problem and advance shipped a new unit, and I sent back the old one with their prepaid label. Awesome.

Love love love this thing. Picked up more dust and crap off the floor than I could've imagined a day after we'd vacuumed with the Hoover.

These are also upgradable to the new XV-21 (you pay $60 extra for the brushes, flash the firmware to v2.6 if needed and you're done).
