I was about to buy a wireless model at a big box store when a fellow gamer told me to "downgrade" and get this model because it was better in his opinion. I've never tried the wireless headset and I don't feel the need to do so.
Face, I just pulled the trigger on the Turtle beach X41 wireless setup 2 weeks ago. I had the old, original TB EarForce X1s, which are wired, and stereo only, and I wanted to upgrade to at least 5.1 surround.
Since I don't mind being wired to the 360, I tried in vain to find one of the original DSS units included here to plug my X1s into (There were just too many complaints against the newer DSS2) and eventually succumbed to "gotta have it now" syndrome and impulse-purchased the X41s at Wally World.
Having positional/surround sound audio has been a game-changer for me in MW3! With the old Stereo X1's, I could HEAR faint sounds, but I couldn't pinpoint their location very well.
I play mostly in hard-core mode, and now I can get a pretty god idea of where the threat is before I attempt to eliminate it.
While the wireless headset is "nice to have", it hasn't been a big deal for me, and, being wireless, mine do occasionally pick up noise from other devices, but not very often. However, I now need 2 sets of rechargeable batteries dedicated to the headset: 2 AAAs for use in the headset, and one more in the charger "at the ready",for when the others fail (invariably in the middle of a match). I probably get 20 - 30 hours of game time per charge.
The Take-away from all this blathering?
- I wish this offer had come last month... I would have saved myself about $80 on the headset, and another $10 for rechargeable batteries!
One other thing: Check your X360 to see if you have an optical audio output! if you don't, you will need an adapter cable, or an optical audio output from your surround sound receiver or TV in order to get true surround sound.
