ok here is my question wide wide world of wooters.. and i sort of know the answer.. i have now.. hp G60, pentium dual core T4200 @ 2.00ghz, 3gb memory, 32 bit, vista machine. this apears to be a lot better just for the 6gb memory alone. and the price seems fine tho i dont need the blueray. have always had hp products and never really have had all that many problems tho the screen died on this one so just went out and bought a 60 dollar 20 inch monitor, it is 3 years old so just about served its purpose and will hook it up to the tv when i get a new comp. this seems like a good deal to me for the price and i guess i just need someone to reasure me that my thinking is correct. thanks

Windows 8 is largely going to be for the touchscreen market, no matter what you hear. It is clearly not better than Win 7, it is basically an upgrade of their windows cell phone OS. Yes, it can be run by a mouse and keyboard, but it is designed for touchscreen. AND we are not going to touchscreen interfaces on any device with a real keyboard and mouse anytime soon. Laptops...I don't know what the plans are, but I can say I have used tablets, cell phones, laptops and desktops and they all have their best use scenarios. The absolute best hardware you are going to get is in a desktop and they are not to the point where that will be changing anytime soon. Second best is laptop, then tablet, then cells. Windows 8 is definitely not made to optimize a desktops potential, let alone a non-touchscreen laptop. I have seen that OS in action...don't expect any effect on laptop prices because of it.

About those who are suggesting similar priced i3 laptops...do they have blu-ray? That is the thing that stands out on this laptop for the price.

This is a decent deal. The processor isn't as Dot's Poetry Corner as some people make it out to be. For the new Amazon woot this is a good deal, for the old woot it could have been about $25 cheaper. I do a fair amount of work on a laptop that isn't even as good as this one including light video editing, DVD ripping etc- this has plenty of processor power for most things. Benchmarks can be misleading, and are fine as a general guide sometimes- but realize they will not define a user experience. You won't suffer buyers remorse if you get this.

For $370, the i3 CPU on this lenovo is close to 3000 passmark score, while the AMD processor on this woot machine is close to 2000.

It is also a Lenovo, which is generally a lot more reliable than HP labtops.

Just no blu ray ... So if that's a big selling point, the Lenovo won't give you everything this one has.

Can anybody else find a Windows 7 blu ray/hdmi machine for less? I'm struggling. I've been looking for a win7 home theater pc for a while, and I rarely find anything under $500. And that's usually without an OS. And definitely not a laptop. If someone knows of something better, I would love to know.

Ivy Bridge is definitely 2012 in a matter of months. Anything else reporting it in 2013 is either factually wrong or is not accurately reporting Intel statement about Ivy Bridge's delays correctly.

I have this one. It is a great one for just about everything. I paid a little less for it at Best Buy, but would buy it again in a heartbeat. I get about 3 hours of battery life on it because I open 5 or 6 windows at time on my desktop, but the real estate that is there serves me very well even with the shortened battery life. I am not a gamer, so I can't help you there.

Repairmen only see the broken ones, not the ones that quietly keep working for years. It's like the old days with contact lenses, you only notice those having trouble with them.

Then there is how and where they are used.

acpress.com Not cute, but useful.

Now look for an Intel system with Nvidia GPU....whats the cost? You pay lots more for just the Intel name. Buy what you want, but AMD has always provided me with the power I've ever needed.

My response was in response to another poster who said you can get a much faster laptop for this price, which is true, but not with all the features this one has (screen size, blu-ray, etc). I think you mistook the point of my post, I wasn't actually looking to buy a laptop with an i3 (or AMD for that matter) processer. Historically Intel has been behind the curve with integrated graphics, but their newer HD3000 series integrated graphics are not that bad.

I purchased the HP Beats Edition with the SSD hard drive recently on WOOT and have no problem connecting to my wireless router anywhere in the house. I live in a rather large house with the main hallway being over 100' long and only lose the connection when I go to the in-law apartment which is one floor, 4 walls and 80' from the router. I also can connect with my 5 year old HP laptop so my guess that those who complain about HP connection have crappy routers.

The only way to get firewire on to a laptop would be to either have it come with firewire (built into the motherboard) or have a laptop with an expresscard slot and buy a firewire express card such as one of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&N=-1&isNodeId=1&Description=expresscard+firewire
This laptop does not have either of those options. Not many laptops come with express card adapters anymore, and the ones that do are pretty expensive.

You obviously have no idea what Windows 8 is then do you?

The Metro UI that has been used on Zune/WindowsPhone devices is only half of the OS, intended for tablet/touch interface use. You can go back to a traditional desktop-like experience, extremely similar to Win7 with some tweaks.

The price drop that is inevitable however, is more related to the Ivy Bridge CPU architecture than Windows 8.

Their all in one printer software is BY FAR the worst ever made! It weighs in at 400-600 megabytes of bloatware. Have a problem with it and good luck. I've spent more time problem solving HP All In One software than EVERY OTHER PRINTER software combined.

I purchased this laptop a few weeks ago and I am already having very serious problems with the Graphics Card. The screen flickers and all of the colors are oily.

All I use this computer for is watching movies and Itunes. I need to find assistance on how to get this repaired.

Any advice?
