Satisfied?

That's a good deal especially since it is new. Some may not like the 17" screen. Otherwise they are similar machines, the one here has a better graphics processor and slightly faster processor according to benchmarks.

Posts with links like this are A LOT more helpful to those looking to buy one.

Not a "much better" deal, but why get a refurb when you can get the exact same thing brand new for the exact same price?

Great find, I bet if the Woot purchasers had seen this they would make an adjustment.

The one you linked should be a tad faster than this one.

People have been dying to spend money here all night. The servers have been going down for hours... nothing to do with what they're offering.

kmartind wrote:I don't know about their low end carp but I've called HP twice about minor issues with an HP Envy laptop and both times the support was absolutely stellar. I know, I was as surprised as everyone else! There was zero wait time; just stated the product name to the automated phone system, heard a couple clicks and immediately got a friendly and helpful support agent in the USA. First time was just to register the warranty so that was kind of a freebie for good support, but the second time I had a battery problem. He didn't make me jump through any hoops, and advance-exchanged a new battery with a $1 refundable core charge to return the old one.
I called on a Thursday late afternoon, and the battery got here by 10am the next morning and it fixed the problem.
If you pay for better products and support you get it. If you buy the cheapest stuff based on price alone, you get what you pay for (and I think that's true with most companies, not just HP; the difference with Apple is they basically just don't sell the low-end stuff so they don't have to support it either).
HP business notebooks and servers are solid too (typing this on anold nc6400 circa 2006 that works as well today as when it was new; actually better since I replaced the hard drive with an SSD, even though the original drive never did fail, and did a fresh OS install).

HP's home service ranks last by almost every poll (PC Mag, etc etc).

HP's business support (high end stuff) ranks very high by the same polls. You probably dealt with them.

It is good to know that HP has stated they are dropping their home division and will be selling it off to another company to run (kind of like IBM did with Lenevo). Maybe someone else can run it better for them.

EDIT: I get corrected a bit here.

Definitely a server problem, woot has been glitchy since this Woot-Off started.
I wonder if several of the old employees who really knew what they were doing may have gotten poached by Google or Facebook by now.

In any case, to stay on topic. This looks like a decent laptop at a fair, but not super-wonderful price. Don't expect top-of-the-line support and build quality when you're only paying for mediocre, low-end products. That's just not how things work in the real world. You'll probably get a few years service out of a low-end laptop at best, and that makes it worth a relatively low price, even if you might have to find a local nerd to work on it after a year or so when you've clogged up the fan with dust and hair and loaded it up with spyware and useless junk (instead of expecing HP to fix that for you).

My secret fantasy is that the servers puked when they activated the new robot-blocking Bangin'-On-Couch software.

Naw, that was the previous id1ot CEO who got fired (well technically, I think all of the last 3 got fired but the most recently fired one came up with that particular idea).
Hopefuly the latest CEO has a clue. What she's been saying to investors is at least encouraging in that she acknowledges there have been problems, and things like R&D and support have been underfunded, and she's supposedly fixing that.

Ah, thanks for informing me on that, I'd not heard anything since the announcement I spoke of. I hope they fix things, I used to like HP a lot. They REALLY need to redesign their all in one printer software from the ground up. So much of my time is wasted on those things.

With the way the site has been acting, I'm not sure people can even buy stuff. Even posting comments seems to have only about a 30% success rate at this point.

If you are just going off the CPU benchmark score, than this about 50 percent faster than the woot labtop yesterday and slightly better than most i3 labtops on the market. Also AMD makes better integrated graphics than INTEL, so this will play games better.

TADA Skyrim. If only this was not an HP and refurb, you could buy it for gamer son or daughter and they will be happy.

You have trouble with their printer software? Just do what I do - reboot the printer after each page. That makes things run much more smoothly.

It's not wootalyzer, it's woot. I've tried connections at work, at home and on two different phones. I've tried wootalyzer, woot watcher and manually updating. Things just are not working and not updating. Orders are not going through, and I've tried a LOT (at least 25 times for various items.) Bahhh, wootoffs take enough energy as it is . . . don't need these issues while I'm trying to work too. They lost me for today.

I have an old HP OfficeJet Pro L7680, (purchased refurb'd from Woot in 2008) that's been pretty solid, but it's HUGE and takes a while to start up, so I leave it "on" all the time. It doesn't seem to use much power and that also allows it to do whatever maintenance it needs to do to keep the ink cartridges from clogging up if I don't use it for a while.
What I do for drivers is load the business type driver package that claims its "for IT Professionals" or something. It still provides most if not all of the useful functionality but in a smaller driver package, like 1/3 the size.

Don't get scared by the clock speed, the Radeon enhanced A6 is comparable to most i5 processors:

This is a great deal, since you can eject three of the cores to get away from any strong gravitational pull, and still have one left to run your laptop!
