I am in the market for a surveillance system for my home...
prefer 8 cameras for OUTDOOR use...
also prefer a dedicated monitor for the system...
(COSTCO has what looks to be a nice system with a touch screen/etc....but, it's $900)

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Does Zmodo offer a free DVRNS so that you don't have to purchase a static IP address?

Can't find any reviews on this specific model, but check out Amazon. Zmodo systems get some quite good reviews on there, in general.

I do a daily woot blog where I talk about the woot, link to CSEs, find reviews, etc. A few people have told me it's useful. Google "useful linkage" and there it is.

My brother asked if this was okay with 220v but the support said that it's only 110v and you'd have to buy an adapter/converter for 220v

Is super hot hotter than 122 degrees? I think super cold is what you should be more worried about.

Operation temperatures are -10->50 degrees Celsius. Which should be 14-122 degrees Fahrenheit

Well... Texas heat kind of hot. I have seen 110 degrees for days straight. Very rarely going to be in super cold.

Well a lot of these weatherproof systems are made to take a beating from sun and rain so I think you'll be pretty good with this set. If you're worried about sun you could possibly insulate with some weatherproofing paint build a little awning around it to prevent direct sunlight.

Although, I'm pretty sure that's why the little hood on top of the camera is there. To prevent direct sunlight and provide insulation among other things.

Good ideas for extra protection though, thanks!

Perfect for Paranormal Activity.

Bought the 8-cam version (hard drive included) of the deal two months ago (my first woot), I'd say that it's a pretty good investment and works surprisingly well for something that cheap.

Don't expect it to be like casino cameras though, it's probably like about half the quality I guess.

Selling now at deals.woot.com :D

Honestly, I've seen the costco ones and they're the same roughly.

Still works real time. Just need a HD if you want to record.

I can't promise this is the same set but this guy says he paid about 200 dollars for his zmodo camera set. Unfortunately the video doesn't capture the hit and run that happened, but you can hear the audio and get a decent feel for the night vision. These fall into about the same price range so I'm thinking you'll get same quality.

EDIT: The cameras that come with this don't have audio, so expect similar video most likely but no audio. Thanks aftab7000!

Edit: Of course if this was an episode of CSI all you would need to do is zoom in and the plate magically appear and be easy to read. (What am I trying to say? Keep your expectations realistic and you'll be Okay with this set)

Technically the cameras are for indoor and outdoor use, but the cameras are so bare. But you could easily find an outdoor casing online. Or if you got the 8-camera version of the deal (has 16 channels, so you can add 8 more cameras) you could purchase a BNC camera (one witha video signal and power supply as separate plugs) separately from the same brand or elsewhere (haven't tried it yet, but it SHOULD work as long as it supports the BNC cables and such that is the same as the camera this kit comes with.

Honestly, I've seen the costco ones and they're roughly the same. I bought this deal like two months ago (my first woot) and I've never had buyers remorse.

The only complaint I have with these cameras are the freaking stands... they're too delicate and a person could just whack it from far away (which applies to all small cameras I guess).. that's why I'm emphasizing on buying an external case or like mount them in a metal box or something.

from the write up at moofi: "Well, guess what? I’d already installed a Zmodo 16 Channel Surveillance System to keep track of where you were putting your cameras!

Don't laugh, a local jerk just got arrested as he accidentally took a photo of himself as he put up a hidden camera in a women's locker room.

Wondering what the cost of a suitable 1TB hard drive would be? Not sure I need 8 cameras like the one on Moffi.

Also - anyone who has one of these - what is the performance of the iphone app like. Specifically, does it connect immediately?

Thanks.

Depends on your internet connection.

Plus it wouldn't be as instant like in movies.. it'll probably take about a minute more or less.

Either way.. it works.

App suggestion: Aplayer. http://www.zmodo.com/3g-mobile-iphone-devices-installation/

Horizontal Resolution: 480 TV-Lines

not quite high-def, but you should do fine for an inexpensive home monitoring system
