I can confirm it has a backlit keyboard, and 16 GB of RAM works. I installed it last night. Works with bios A07, A08 and A12.

I am VERY happy with this purchase. Word to the wise, the SSD was very difficult to put back in without taking the bottom cover off. It will slide in fine, but it did not engage the contacts for the SATA & Power. It misses them entirely if left to gravity. I ended up applying a little pressure on the power/sata connector (laptop side) and then pushed the SSD back in.

These came as PREVIOUSLY ORDERED NEW. Which is a bunch of crap, these werent NEW as advertised, these sell on the Dell outlet site as PREVIOUSLY ORDERED NEW for MUCH cheaper then NEW configurations. I understand they are just customer returns and still new but the fact is these arent NEW as stated.

Mine has 3GB RAM, no webcam, no bluetooth, and no SSD! But it does have a fingerprint reader and backlit keyboard, and a 9-cell (sticks out the back) battery. Woot is issuing an RMA exchange for me.

I know someone who bought two of these, and they both do have the SSD, 4GB RAM webcam, and Bluetooth, but just the advertised 6-cell battery and no backlit keyboard. Also, these two have Intel Centrino AGN wireless while mine only had the DW1530 Wireless-N card.

I will say, the two with SSDs SCREAM vs. the one I got, so I'm glad I'm not as disappointed with the "SSD" performance as I thought I was, since it's not really the SSD :-) (I have a nice Intel SSD in my old E6500 and I'm addicted!)

Anyone who doesn't get a backlit keyboard (or fingerprint reader or Bluetooth) will probably have to suck it up and deal, but any features they advertised (RAM, webcam I think, SSD) Woot should do an RMA exchange, they have some left as of a little while ago. Once they run out it's return-for-refund only.

Sorry about that. I'm not seeing an email from you yet, so could you please send one to service@woot.com? Someone should be back to you in 24 hours.

Crucial has 8GB kit for around $50, I'm sure it's cheaper elsewhere. Might as well do $125 for G.SKILL 16GB kit from Newegg though :-)

Mine came with Bluetooth, 1x4GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Webcam, TPM chip, 6-cell battery, Ultimate-N wifi (currently connected at 300mps) and backlit keyboard.

If you believe yours doesn't have a backlit keyboard, just make sure it isn't disabled in the BIOS as mine was.

I'm going to bump mine up to 16GBs and get an empty filler bay (hopefully) and drop the DVD saving some weight.

Happy Wooter here.

To someone that has installed 16GB, could you please post the part number of the RAM module?
Thanks.

Noticed in BIOS update A05 this statement:

"Fixed issue where a UEFI OS install would fail with greater than 8GB of memory."

So looks like they were supporting > 8GB early if not from launch.

I got mine a few days ago, and now it's failing to detect the hard drive. It was doing that off and on, but now it's stuck that way.
Something's loose somewhere in there, I guess. Sending it off to Dell support. Grumble.

It's really just a matter of sending it in and having them adjust whatever's loose, so I don't think there's anything you can do.

Just wanted to chime in here and write my experience:

Loved Dells since I work with them at work. The business latitudes are really great with business support top notch. Also hardware replacements are next day which is really neat.

I ordered it last Wednesday and it came in today so thats pretty fast shipping for ground.

I was afraid mine was going to be screwed up (specs wise) since there were some reports from people that weren't getting the advertised stuff like memory and hdd. I am pleased to report that mine came as advertised and verified it through the bios/and reading from device manager: Core i5 2520m, 1x4GB (388MB shared with video), 8x DVDRW burner, Samsung SSD 256GB, DOES have backlit keyboard (either go into the bios and enable it OR hit FN+Right Arrow key to activate, default is disabled), WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, gigabit lan, Windows 7 x64 PRO, Dell 375 bluetooth, webcam, touchpad+trackpad, TPM v1.2 (great feature for encryption).

The box did look new on the outside, with a label showing "Previously Ordered New", like the other poster noted. Can anyone elaborate what this means?

Upon opening, it did seem like it was packaged as if it was a warranty item (I run through alot of Dell packaging at work from new machines to warrantied returns so I know what packaging it looks like) but upon inspection, the laptop itself looked brand new, no scratches/fingerprints, etc so I guess I can't quarrel there. At least it comes with 3 year warranty anyways so if something does break, I know Dell business is really good at their support. Glad I bought this laptop!

Edit: Just noticed my laptop didn't come with a COA sticker, usually ALL laptops have this that are brand new. Does that mean Woot is illegally selling these machines unlicensed?

After seeing your post, we sent our crack team of specialists out to find the COA and they have reported back that it is located under the battery.
